we got Tony Richardson Jets agreed to terms with FB Tony Richardson on a one-year contract. Richardson, 36, is hardly the pass catching or short yardage threat he once was, but can still deliver a blow. He was an All Pro selection as Adrian Peterson's lead blocker in 2007. His addition bodes well for Thomas Jones. sorry missed other post
The signing if Richardson, and quality veteran free agents should have a trickle down effect on Chris Bakers production. Schotty can get him more in tune with the passing game, allowing him to run clear down field, without having to concern himself with chipping on the DE or OLB and most importantly giving Chad or Kellen a target in the middle of the field on short yardage plays. We have not had that option for years now....
I am about 99.9% sure the Jets are going to pick up McFadden now if he's available. The .1% is Chris Long's Freefall. With a new stadium opening in two years, with PSL's to sell, Woody wants a superstar. Fill the seats, sell the Jerseys, etc. Remember- the Vikings signed running back Chester Taylor two years ago. He went on to have a 1,000 yard season. That didn't stop them from picking up Adrian Peterson. When you're built to run, pick up the runner.
Who said you can't make chicken salad out of chicken sh#t? Look at our Run blockers. Now if we took McFadden we would have 4 backs and I just don't see it happening. We need to go defense in this draft.
I agree with what a lot are saying - great signing - he should really help; and yes IF McFadden happens to fall to #6 then I definitely think we are taking him. We are trying to score a coup here; there is no doubt about it. Just because we have fully prepared for McFadden does not mean he will be there at #6. Each of the 5 preceeding picks could surprise us, and somebody could always trade up because they also know if McFadden falls to #6, he will be gone. Personally, I think I am starting to smell that the Jets are contemplating trading up just because it appears they are going for the coup on McFadden. If that is the case then I think the most likely trade candidate would be Atlanta. That dumb game we won against KC in December will end up costing us our second and one of our 4ths to get it done, in addition to the swap of first round selections.
I will never forgive our CS if we trade up for McFadden. If he doesn't fall to us oh well, becuase there is plenty of RB talent in this draft.
I Like it , Richardson has been one of the Best blocking Fullbacks in the NFL his whole career. He's up there in age at 36 but he's one tough SOB at fullback.
Agreed...there's at least 3 other HB's (Mendenhall, F.Jones, Jonathan Stewart) that the Jets could select and not have to give up any other picks in order to select them, that I believe could be just as productive as McFadden. If the jets trade up for McFadden, it will start a riot.
So if you didn't think we were taking McFadden before this move, think again. The Jets will have one of the best offensive run-blocking lines in the league and now with Richardson, its that much better.
Doesn't matter....TJ and Leon will be just fine running the ball behind this line...I'm sure we'll grab a RB in the lower rounds, this draft is deep @ RB no need for McFadden unless a great trade is proposed.
if we get McFadden...that's fine with me....but it was suggested that the Jets might trade up with Atlanta to get him....which i think someone with retarded tendencies would do.
At this point..I don't think McFadden is in our plan. Thomas Jones still has 2 or 3 good years left and Leon should be able to break some big runs with this offensive line. Richardson is a great signing..Let's run the ball baby!!!!
I dont think the CS is looking for just fine from the running game. Everything about this offseason suggests that if McFadden is available he will be the pick. The biggest need on this team right now is offensive playmakers and he is the best one in this draft. I think the only thing that would keep him from being drafted by us is if he doesn't impress the FO in his interviews, everything about his game is exactly what the offense is lacking. I cant speak for his character although I have heard he has been upfront about his past issues, which shows a sign of maturity.
I think most of the FA pickups were for a running game but also to help the QB out as well. Each of the starters last year had an average of 2.8 seconds to throw the ball before they were sacked... Playoff team QB get an average of 4.7--- Richardson is to help the red zone scoring, which we were ranked in the bottom 5.
