As a Newbe, this is probably a bad thread to start out with. People seem to get very emotional about the Clemens, Pennington thing, but what the heck.

I just don't see any way the Jets can trade for Quinn, or draft a QB first day this season. Clemens just didn't get a fair chance to show his ability last season. There were some flashes of promise, and a lot of missed opportunities. As has been said about a million times since the end of the season, the OL made it impossible to gage his talent.

The Jets have spent a ton of money in what appears to be a "Win Now" scenario. They better have a QB to run the show. I don't hate Pennington, he has been a decent QB for the Jets, but I sure hope Clemens can step up and be an NFL QB this season.

To bring in a rookie QB next year would be a disaster considering the money that has been spent on this team this year on some guys that really don't have a large window of prime play.

I agree. That's why I'm not saying that Clemens sucks and never did. The jury's still out until we have an adequate line. Regardless, I view Quinn as an upgrade talent wise. Neither of them has proven anything in the NFL. The whole concept behind me going after Quinn is that he was the better prospect coming in. It's a gamble, but I still feel that he's a better pro prospect.

Yep, the board is busy. When there are a lot of people on, they do something to make the board go faster, but you cant see who is on the thread or in the forum.

When board traffic is lighter, it goes back to the other way.

That’s a real crazy scenario and your right not likely to happen. Chad Will be on the roster come training camp, so will Kellen Clemens so that as they say is that! The Jets may bring in a Veteran from somewhere but that will be a little down the road unless Farves not retiring (That’s a Joke). It’s a good time for both Quarter backs on the roster. We have had a quantum leap on our o-line and this will allow for more time to let things set up instead of having to run plays with a window of 2 seconds to get the ball out. Chad did stink the joint up while behind center and his physical attributes are still in question but this may be the shot to this team that will make the turf behind center a little more balanced for Chad if he's the starter. For Kellen, its like shooting duck at the Oregon fair, plenty of time to rifle the ball down field because the opposing defenses will be kept honest. Either way we will see significant improvement out of the quarter back play regardless of who's the starter!

You know what would help our QB play? Better talent around them.

I think we definitely have some talent in place right now around him. It's not the best, but it's definitely good enough to get a good idea of how good Clemens will be. If the concept of going after Quinn is pretty much off the table, I think giving Clemens this year to prove himself is a good idea. I'm blinded by the idea of getting a former ND QB haha. IF Clemens still shows he's not the future of this franchise, it's time to make a move at the end of next season, but I'll wait and see how this season plays out first obviously.

i think chad and kellen are going to each be given the opportunity to start this season by battling it out in camp again. the better quarterback will win the job, and im ready to stick with manginis decision and see how it plays out.

i think a lot of people could be surprised if this line plays up to its potential, now with 4 former first round picks and a good offensive line coach in callahan. add another big target to throw the ball to, which will most likely come in the draft at this point, and there is no doubt that either qb will be given a much better opportunity to perform this year.

Well, we need some speed. More speed. A lot of outside speed is what we need... That would help.

Now i dont know if this is true but remember when Quinn signed his contract after his long holdout, the main thing was he would make alot of money if he played like 60% of the snaps or 80% or something like that,

anyway what im getting at is that if Quinn just sits the bench behing Derek Anderson and he continues to impress, i really dont think his cap number will be that high. Making it feasible for the browns to be able to keep both in the Long run, or at least until quinn demands a trade.

Dude, that's a heckofa newbie post:up: Anyone that wastes their time bashing Clemens for his first few games of action should read this. Welcome to the board.

As for the "win now" thing. I really don't think that's the overriding goal of this offseason nor the "master plan". While some guys like Faneca and TJ are definitely at the ends of their respective careers, I think their presence here is more that of "experienced veteran hole-plugger" than just a one and done SB team. They are here to play at a high level and to teach the talent that will be groomed under the regime. It's really only now in Tangini's third year that he really has his own farm system in place to work towards the future. This is the approach that brings not just a ring, but a dynasty.

Brady Quinn might be talented, but he's also a complete and utter douche.

Quinn would demand at the very least a 2nd round pick, being a first round pick last year. We can NOT give up any more draft picks this year. We have already traded away our 3rd and 5th for Jenkins, and this coupled with only four picks last year, we need to hold every pick we have left.

Franchises are built through the draft, important pieces to the puzzle are added through free agency.

The problem is if Kellen doesn't work out we'll have to reset the clock to 0 years regarding developing a new quarterback.

I think they'll only go for Quinn if they are convinced that Kellen won't cut it. More likely however they will go after a QB with a 1st day pick if not a first round pick (perhaps after trading back).

And here's how it would play out over the next few years. Chad and Kellen this year and a rookie 3rd stringer in waiting. Next year you'll have Kellen and the QB in waiting as our second stringer. The following year it's anybody's job. This will protect the Jets from injury and you have a plan B if Kellen doesn't work out.
