What do you think our CS has planned for WR? Besides for Cotchery, is any pencilled in? Are we gonna give Coles a contract or go after a FA? I think we need to do one of the two because if we keep Coles he should get a contract. If we do keep Coles and give him a contract, we need to seriously consider drafting a WR somewhat high in the draft, because we are very thin at that position.
I'm starting to fall in "like" with this Devin Thomas kid from Michigan State. Almost 6'2", ran a 4.40 at the combine, bench pressed 28 reps. Would love to pick him up with our second round pick but I feel like he's jumping up into the first round on many team's draft boards...
D.J. Hackett and Jabar Gaffney are still avaliable if the front office wants to make a run for them...
Get 1 or 2 in the draft. We just don't do well at all in FA getting WRs. If we draft one, my feelins are we will, we'll get a good one who will fit and thrive in this system.
If we were to pick up a WR early on, James Hardy in the 2nd Rd. would be interesting but he may have too much character baggage with him. But at 6'6" and sub 4.5 Forty, he can be that big short-to-intermediate range target that can bail out our QB's when they're in a jam. Are we at that point yet that we can start taking risks on players with character issues?
Early Doucet I have been following college football and the draft since 1992. Two times there was a very specific WR that I wanted the Jets to draft. In 2003, they passed on Anquan Boldin to select a so-so LB from Michigan by the name of Victor Hobson. In 2004, they drafted Jerricho Cotchery. Boldin and Cotchery have been exactly what I thought they'd be. I'm now on a specific WR again. I want the Jets to draft Early Doucet. If he slips into the 2nd round and the Jets pass on him, I will be very angry. If the Jets make a deal with Dallas and get the 22nd and 28th picks and they pass on Doucet, I will be even more distraught. Doucet is going to be a very productive player. I said it this time last year and I still believe it. Doucet is a better WR than his two college teammates who were drafted in the 1st round last year- Dwayne Bowe and Craig "Buster" Davis. Doucet has good hands, runs good routes, is tough, and has excellent footwork.
I think we'll take a pick in the 2nd round. I think Jackson will drop. Or Monk would be a really good fit. He's a very good route runner. Scout.com pros and cons of Marcus Monk Pro: Body Control Red Zone Weapon Size Negative: Running Ability Speed - With CPen, You don't really need that much speed. Pennington has great accuracy which if monk is just a little bit open he can be hit. Most CB's arn't that tall either therefore his size will be great for our short game.
Hardy (my 1st choice), Thomas, Dexter Jackson, Eddie Royal(my other choice), Andre Caldwell, Jordy Nelson. They can all add great depth to our team.
James Hardy would be a perfect choice. There are similarities in Cotchery's and Coles' game, where both have the similar size, soft hands and both are tough as nails, having a guy like James will change up the look. Having a guy who is 6'6, running a 4.5 will create plenty of problems for the opposing secondary.
The 2nd rd pick, 36th overall, is where the Jets will be addressing their need for a big and fast WR. I wouldn't be surprised to see them going for another WR in the 4th rd as well depending on who drops.
He's #2 on my WR wish list. Hardy's ceiling is higher than Doucet's, but I'm not convinced Hardy will be great. Doucet (barring injuries, of course) is as close to a sure thing as you're going to see. Doucet is good enough to be productive as a rookie. I don't think he's going to be like many WRs who take a few years to figure out how to play the position on the pro level.
