coleman got 20 mil over 5 years...that looked like overpaying at the time, but this year with DE contracts/demand makes it look like nothing no complaints pace's contract could look like nothing in a year or 2...when we would be parting ways if he flopped
I don't think they are looking at him for edge rusher...I think they want him for the other OLB position to replace Hobson...
has anyone heard anything new on pace? it seems like there hasn't been any new information in a while
Coleman is not Pace. That should be the end of that debate right there. It has no relevence towards this debate. Coleman is not, Pace.. They are not even similar in play style, it makes no sense to debate such a thing. If they feel Pace is worth that kinda dough, then I support that. There must be a heavy reason why these two franchise's are willing to pay such top dollar for, Pace. Pace (like, BT) was a victim of poor coaching and playing out of position. Simple as that, you keep him in the position he excells in and we would have a very good LB for years to come. He is young, with massive potential, so why wouldn't you lock him up?
7 sacks a season and good against the run is 7 million guaranteed on a 5 year 25 million dollar contract. Similar to what the Jets gave Thomas two years ago, which he has not lived up to. If Pace was already a Jet's linebacker you might go a good bit higher to keep him, but he's just not the kind of linebacker you pay Lawrence Taylor/LaVar Arrington/Jevon Kearse type money to. Arrington and Kearse weren't either in retrospect but at least the contracts were defensible when they were signed.
both OLB in a 3-4 are edge rushers. And the jets better be looking for an edge rusher considering that is their biggest defensive need. I got so frustrated watching qb's have a cup of tea in the pocket last year. Pressure in a 3-4 comes primarily from the OLB position. Hobson was an edge rusher, at least based on his position, he just sucked donkey dick at it.
from everything i've read on the board...apparently BT switched sides of the 3-4 last year and struggled...hobson became the primary edge rusher and sucked terribly pace would move BT back to the primary role...and the addition of golston would push BT and add a faster threat for passing downs...this is a summary of my understand of the olb situation...add something if a missed it, but this is just what i am getting we need a 2nd and 3rd olb...adding the best 2 available is a great option to have
i listened to a max kellerman pod cast and he interviewed chris mortensen, mort thinks revis is better then asante right now, and will be the best cb in the league for the next 6 years, not a bad compliment coming from a good football mind
i can see a 5 year 30 million deal with up to 12-15 million guaranteed. probably would mean this is B. thomas last year with the jets of he doesn't pony up. i do not know the particulars of his deal but i know the jets are thinking about this - the pace romance proves it. jil
folks we have to remember these guys that have put in 3-4-5 years and are just now coming into their prime are magnets for teams. if they show a glimmer of performance they are going to get paid for it. the escalating cap space puts teams in the drivers seat and they can spend money. salaries still have not caught up with the annual upward cap movement. unitl they do its a buyers market even though it looks like teams are spending unwisely. yes you may suffer down the road a bit but it may mean only a couple years of no big name free agents. most teams know what they can do and have a good idea of future cap figures out 3-5 years. jil
has anyone heard anything on the pace situation??? i havent heard anything for a while, lemme know what is goin on
back on the coleman contract complaints...here is just an interesting comparison "Per a league source, the five-year deal is worth $20 million with another $4.5 million in escalators. He'll make $5 million in the first year of the deal. The numbers imply that McCray will be a reserve in New Orleans." last year: "The Jets also made their initial plunge into the free-agent market, signing former Cowboys defensive end Kenyon Coleman for a surprisingly hefty amount. Coleman got a five-year, $20 million contract, including more than $6 million guaranteed, a source said." all in one offseason...contract numbers go crazy we would be overpaying pace for about a year until the cap catches up
i think we should hold out on woody until we either get pace, or see if maurice williams is too expensive, bc if not we should go after him, has anyone heard anything about pace?
Has anyone heard anything on Pace? Has anyone heard anything on Pace? Has anyone heard anything on Pace? Has anyone heard anything on Pace? Yes, actually the whole forum has been able to pull off a practical joke on you. We all know what is going on with Pace, we've just been messin with you and haven't told you. He signed a monster contract with the Canadian Football League, sorry for the heartbreak! Don't worry about it though, we've still got Matt Chatham.
