For 1 year? Sign me up! Richardson and Hutchinson were wonderful helping Taylor and Peterson... McKinnie-Hutch-Birk-Richardson DBrick-Faneca-Mangold-Richardson? I take the top line, but you know Jones is wanting Richardson.
So let me get this straight... Mangini & Schott come in in 2006. They cut Jerald Sowell, an excellent dual-threat FB. Then they get rid of BJ Askew, who went on to make the Pro Bowl as a lead blocker for the Buccaneers. They sign Darian Barnes as a FB, and then cut him mid season, as he had been rotting on the bench... And NOW we're pursuing an excellent blocking FB? Make up your mind guys! Do we want a FB or not?! I am a firm believer that an I-formation and/or a good lead-blocking FB can make all the difference for a running game, so I would love to bring in Richardson, but why in the world have we gotten to this point?
Richardson still plays at a high level, so bringing him in for one year is a good idea. He was better than Neal in 2007.
This would be too good to be true It'd add to the great job that Mangini and Tannenbaum have done this offseason.
So now they want to use the FB again? They really need to stop going back and forth on this. But I would prefer they implement the FB some more, and Richardson's a guy to do it with.
A poster yesterday mentioned that Dan Kreider, former Steelers FB is available. Kreider is probably as good of a blocker as Richardson and Neal, maybe a LITTLE worse, but still top 5. And Kreider is only 30, whereas Richardson and Neal have maybe 1-2 more years. I would be very happy with any of them, but I think if we are going to sign any FB this off-season, we should be looking at Kreider as he can be our outstanding blocking FB for the next 7 or so years.
I think you did a better job expressing my opinion than I did.... I sounded too cranky and cynical in my post... But yeah, those are my thoughts exactly.....
Regardless of his age, this guy can flat out play. He's brings the truck every time he hits the field, so needless to say he would be a great addition.
I totally agree (and your post doesnt sound too cranky, LOL) They have blundered with RBs since day one, and Leon is the only one who really bailed them out in the backfield. Their misuse of the FBs they have had is a fucking embarrassment, and one of the sticking points for me of some of their coaching/personnel mistakes. Beamen, I usually am in total agreement with you on the football issues. That's why I didnt think it would have been wise for us to lock horns on politics.
