The Jets are also talking to Maurice Williams of the Jaguars as a RT

Pace may be good, but $20 million in Guarantees? Huh?

Shaun Phillips got like $12 million guaranteed for his breakout 10.5 sack season a couple years ago and that is a lot more reasonable.

Calvin Pace was a borderline bust until his contract season, NO WAY. And he is going to get that money?

    That's absurd and beyond stupid.

I do like reading about Will James, his size is nice and could be an effective Nickel corner.

I wouldn't say this yet, but depending on how the cap rises the next few years, it could preempt us from signing players we really would like to keep as core players. The only one that is starting to become an immediate worry is Rhodes. He is a definite keeper, but money may be a problem. Revis may only be here for 3 or 4 more years, but I wouldn't worry about it now (and I am not saying it is because of bad play - he is a shut down corner)

To me he is, but worse.

Thomas got 5yr/25 mil with like 9 mil in guarantees? 8.5 sack breakout season. I didn't like the move when he got it, and he shut me up temporarily since he kept it up during the season, but I knew it was a fluke, and he went back to being the real Bryan Thomas last season.

This guy is set to get 20mil in guarantees and probably a base of 6-7 mil a year like Adalius Thomas for a breakout season of 6.5 sacks? Huh???

How does this make any sense?

Well, it's now 2008 for one thing. Contracts keep going up and up with each year.

Also, Pace is flat-out a better player than Thomas. He is a better pass rusher and plays hard all the time. Thomas is not as tough and is lazier.
If the Jets sign Pace they are going to have two linebackers- Harris and Pace- who are going to chase down a lot of RBs. Pace didn't give up on plays in 2007.

And this guy deserves the money that Adalius Thomas got? Come on.

I'm not debating that Pace is better, I've seen Arizona only 3 times this season, but when you compare him to Bryan Thomas, then I'll agree with anybody who says he is lazy.

I understand contracts go up, Lance Briggs got 13mil in Guarantees, that's fair for a good player who is suited well in his system.

But Calvin Pace? That's ludicrous money for a guy like him.

Honestly, if our front office is willing to spend the money I am all for getting in cap trouble. After last season, if these moves will get us better I really don't mind the cost.

So according to Cimini, 72 hours into free agency we could have already gotten:

    A 2nd/3rd/4th for Vilma
    Kris Jenkins for 2 picks
    Alan Faneca
    Calvin Pace
    Damien Woody
    Randall Gay
    Will James

Add to that a high first and second round pick, we would already have the makings of one heck of an offseason.

To go with that my absolute dream offseason would be doing the above, then trading Robertson to Denver for 2 picks, parlay 1 and Coles to Philly for Sheppard (giving us 7 picks in the draft) and then signing Moss (he's a problem I know, but he has some serious talent and would get us a lot closer to New England).

  10. If there's one person I trust for managing our cap, foreseeing the market and ke[ing us financially stale it is Tannenbaum. Nobody in the business is better...and if he's being this aggressive...he either has targeted future players w/ high salaries that dont fit long term..or he beleievestheyll be a large rise in the cap.

I thought the Adalius Thomas contract was ridiculous.

If the Jets and Dolphins had long interviews with him and are convinced that he is going to continue to play hard after he signs a big contract this week, then I feel the money is fair.
He was a very destructive player last year. He chased down quite a few ball carriers. He showed a lot of sideline-to-sideline ability.
The game he played at Washington was perhaps his best effort. He had an interception and a sack in that game. I also recall a number of key tackles. I saw that game. It was won by Washington 21-19. It's possible that it was re-aired by NFL Network. If that is the case, that game will probably be shown once again during this offseason.

Now this is getting way ahead of myself but let's just say all of this happens, then we get Gholston in the first round and with Kenny Phillips falling we move up and pick him. Add to that the possibilty of Olivea and wow...

No matter the cost I would love this lineup:

    QB: Clemens (or Pennington)
    RB: Jones
    FB: Barnes
    WR: Moss and Cotchery
    TE: Baker
    LT: Ferguson
    LG: Faneca
    C: Mangold
    RG: Olivea
    RT: Damien Woody

    LE: Ellis
    NT: Jenkins
    RE: Pace
    OLB: Harris and Gholston
    ILB: Barton and Hobson
CB: Revis and Sheppard (this would mean we likely wouldn't need Gay)
    SS: Rhodes
    FS: Phillips

    K: Nugent
    P: Draft Pick
    KR/PR: Washington

WOW!!! (now there is no chance in hell that this will happen but it's nice to think about:jets:)

Look. Maybe they see what we don't see. That's why they got the job running a football team, and we are stuck here, bitching about this and that. I'm not against Pace if Parcells and Mangini are both after him hard.

Pace is not going to play end. He's proven he can't play with a hand on the ground.
He'll play outside linebacker on the strongside. Harris would play on the inside. Thomas would play WOLB. Barton would probably be the other inside linebacker.

I'd rather have Gay than Sheppard. Sheppard was burned quite a bit last year and has had trouble staying healthy. For what it's worth, though, I have never had a problem with David Barrett. If Pace is brought on board, the front seven is going to be pretty good. That'll help the secondary no matter who is back there.

Is Haggan a candidate for ILB? I'm not to keen on Kassell for depth there.

Pace has been a pure victim of coach instability. He worked with McGinnis and Dennie Green I mean............It took a couple of new coaches on the defense to find out the position he can play properly.

Now I agree that 20 mill is so ridiculous but he's better than Bryan Thomas. No doubt in my mind.

I don't think so. He was mostly a special teamer on the Bills. Maybe he's competing with Kassell for his special teams job. I still remember Kassell almost costing us the game against the Dolphins in 2006...

I think the FO could be banking on the owners backing out of the CBA and there being no cap in 2011,

The CS seems to like Kassell for special teams, which is fine, but I don't ever want to see him line up on defense again. He's been terrible. We ahve got to fine another ILB to rotate with Barton and Harris.
