What in the world makes you think Eliss would be successful at OLB? I really doubt he has the speed, agility, and coverage skills to make the transition smoothly.
Phins are also trying to land Rogers. http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2008/02/dolphins_jump_into_rogers_trad.html
Get the big man and keep robertson if possible. I know his salary is high, but he can rotate at NT, DE and play the other DT when we mix in a 4-3. He can also help the new NT learn the position. maybe i'm just dreaming.
JWillie, A guy on JI was saying his pops is a limo driver, and took D-Rob to the airport last night....perhaps he was heading to another city for a physical? Could be BS, but got me thinking. Either way, I WOULD LOVE Jenkins! Got my Terps Jenkins jersey on today in my office in hopes that if I wear it all day and night the guy will become a Jet.
Looking at a few people on a Lions message board talking about Rogers, some are pissed they want to trade a top 3 DT in the NFL, while others just want someone who give more than 1% of effort. It's clearly a question of effort with him. I would think he's worth the risk, just because it's difficult to get a stud NT, and Rogers is just that if he plays somewhat hard.
They played him at OLB for a limited number of situations this year and he did get more pressure than I thought he would. I wouldn't mind seeing him used there situationally at all.
Abyzmul, the Detroit Free Press says that the Detroit HC did everything but hand him cupcakes one at a time last year and nothing worked with him. It's interesting that they haven't given him permission to go out and sell himself as we have Vilma. Unless this guy is really pro-active, I don't think much of his prospects as our DL savior just because he weighs 350 lbs. I mean, so does Jenkins [both these guys are 6' 4" and 350 lbs.] and he appears to have a lot more attitude than this guy.
Jenkins is a beast. We would do well 2 get him. I think we will get 2 DTs in FA. 350 lbs are what we always needed, not 295 lbs and making them DTs when they are purely DE's. We need 2 and we probably won't get them in the draft.
For years we have passed up older, overweight NTs because they had motivation issues, and they go on to some team and end up making their D-lines effective. I'm not signing on for Rogers, but I'm sick of the same argument.
Games: 2005 Carolina 1 2006 Carolina 16 2007 Carolina 16 I am kind of curious how everyone feels he has health issues when he has played 16 games each of the last two seasons. I think Jenkins should be the top choice for NT by far! Youth?
I hadn't looked up how Jenkins did recently. I remember him being dominant 5 years ago, but then he basically missed 2 seasons in 2004 and 2005. His stats the last 2 seasons are slightly down from his 2 big seasons in 2002 and 2003, but does anyone actually watch Panthers games enough to have an opinion of how well he's played? I don't like using stats as a judge for nose tackles.
2004 Carolina 4 2005 Carolina 1 That's probably why. When a player gets injured in consecutive years and stops being the flavor of the month for the media, maybe people naturally assume it's due to injury. I have to admit, the moment I saw the name Kris Jenkins, the first thought that came to mind was 'damn, doesn't that guy get injured a lot?'
Understood but the same used to be said about Fred Taylor and even when he was healthy and producing people still labeled him as injury prone. This guy has been healthy for 2 years and played in every game. I feel he is over his injury. But the Panthers D has been banged up as a whole the past few years so he cant only be to blame. Peppers hasnt done a whole lot as of late and Morgan was banged up as well. Their D as a whole was underachieving. I feel he is a better option than Rogers, due to his character and drive. But his stats arnt what matter in our D. Its his size and motor. Youth?
