I say Vilma for Rogers and a conditional round pick, perhaps a 5th upgraded to a 4th based on performance. Thoughts?

PS I'm praying for that knee to hold up.

If we sign Rogers up to a new deal I think this is how it should be:

First, offer him a VERY nice contract as long as he completes the following things. He needs a fat (no-pun) contract in order to motivate him to play out of the spotlight as a 34 NT. I say give it to him and see how it works. Here are the conditions for the contract:

    1. Must agree to stay under a certain weight with regular checks through the season. If he doesn't meet the weight there will be penalties against his salary. This should make sure he's able to play at a healthy level through out the season.

    2. Must play a certain percentage of defensive snaps. I'd say maybe about 60%.
This makes sure he WANTS to play at a healthy level so he can play this percentage of snaps.

I'd love to have this guy on our team.

I think a "fat" contract would be against league rules.

I didn't realize Rogers was that big. Wilfork is listed at 6'2 325lbs. He does fine at NT in the 3-4 Rogers at 6'4 340lbs should be a huge difference for us

The Broncos have reportedly had no substantive talks with the Lions about Pro Bowl DT Shaun Rogers.
The Rocky Mountain News jumped the gun on declaring a trade imminent on Monday. The Broncos are still exploring the idea of acquiring Rogers, but the Bengals, Bills, and Jets are also interested in the 350-pound nose tackle.

i can see vilma for rogers and a 3rd round pick

Vilma for Rogers and a mid-pick has to be the trade. If you're Mangini you HAVE to take a chance that you can mold him into the next elite nose tackle.

I think everyone's got the wrong idea about this Vilma-Rogers trade.

I think we're trying to trade Vilma straight up for Roy Williams.

Guess we'll find out soon enough.

either way is good for me Cotchrocket....

Maybe Vilma and Robertson - R. Williams and Rogers?

    I would love that.

Where do you get that idea from? I'm just wondering if you've heard some news or if you just think that makes more sense.

Rogers is an ideal 4-3 DT but I dont know how he'd work as a 3-4 DT honestly......... I dont know if he can work in the Jets D system even though hes big.

Also it bothers me a bit that DET were about to cut Rogers completely until DEN chimed in with interest......

Id take a 2nd and Rodgers for Robertson and Vilma because it seems like DET doesnt want to keep Rogers and are persistent to move him. And their picks are in the middle so meh.

Williams went on record at the end of the season that he wanted a trade. He's a great player who doesn't fit the system. Ditto Vilma. I think we're gonna get him and trade Coles.

It's just a hunch. But Williams seems like a Mangini player. Rogers absolutely does not.

I'd wet my pants if that were the case. A very fair trade by all means.

I like Rogers, but I'd rather make an attempt at Athyba Rubin, Red Bryant, or someone along those lines in the draft to rotate in with Pouha and nab Williams rather than trying to go for reciever depth in the draft and nabbing Rogers. It covers our asses better too in case if Coles gets traded (I hope not though).

I'm honestly fine either way though, I just like the Williams idea more. However, this was posted yesterday:

Who knows. I'm drooling at a Williams-Coles-Cotch recieving triple threat though

I don't see Vilma for Rogers...He already battles weight and motivation issues, and then you throw him in a new system he probably doesn't want to play in.

That doesn't add up...in addition, if that is the trade, if anything is throwing in picks it'd be us. A healthy Rogers has more value than a dinged up Vilma.

Heh, I googled "Roy Williams" to see where he had said he wanted out of Detroit and that was one of the first articles that came up. Like one of the comments says though, Millen and not Marinelli has the final say, so who knows.

And A healthy Vilma has more value than a dingled up or healthy Rogers. Thats the chance DET would take on Vilma, healthy or not.
