I didn't think that was the case. I thought both his slider and fastball were considered plus-plus, and that his curve was plus, while his change was just above average. Where's the scouting report on him?
Here's some scouting info on Joba: http://pinstripespa.blogspot.com/2007/07/joba-chamberlain-scouting-report.html http://www.armchairgm.com/Joba_Chamberlain I was thinking exactly what you did when I read it, but just didn't bother paying attention to it. He's got 3 great pitches, and a fourth to fall back on. And look at the difference between his fastball and curve. If he has the control, that's going to appear to be a plus-plus when mixed with his other stuff.
I don't see how Joba even gives up a single run, ever. He is like a mix between Walter Johnson, Bob Gibson, Sandy Koufax all rolled into one, only much better.
Well, he did give up 1 and only 1 last year. (Right?), So with a full season and part of that as a starter he may give up 4 this year....

Morgan Ensberg will be this year's AL MVP. Mark it down. No, I'm not serious. But I do think it was a good signing, and I'm hoping he'll not only be able to contribute to the team, in general, but I'm hoping we'll see some indirect benefits of having more viable, semi-productive options on the bench (including Betemit and Duncan). Girardi will hopefully feel more comfortable resting some guys on a more regular basis, and that we'll have a fresher team heading into August/September. And not that the bench usually makes a huge difference, but (god forbid) if/when we have any injuries, the replacement options are looking better this season than anything the Yanks bench have had in a while.
Potentially bad news for Bobby Murcer. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/b...bobby_murcer_faces_new_brain_cancer_scar.html
Damn. I was so happy when he beat it the first time. Hopefully it's just the scar tissue. God Bless you Bobby!
Yankees beat USF 11-4, with Joba, Phil and Kennedy pitching very well but Igawa walked 3 and gave up a grand slam. Up next is the grapefruit league opener against Philly tommorrow at 1:15 ET.
Yankees are up 6-2 in the 7th thanks to a solo HR by A-Rod, as well as a 3 run homer and a 2 run double by Shelley Duncan.
