Slowik's top priority will be stopping run By Lee Rasizer, Rocky Mountain News (Contact) Monday, February 25, 2008 ~ ~ ~ MIDDLE MEN: With free agency thin at defensive tackle, the Broncos have expressed an interest in acquiring Detroit's talented but enigmatic Shaun Rogers, who's on the trade block. But one other name to watch via that route is the New York Jets' Dewayne Robertson, who is only 26 years old and five years removed from being a top-10 pick.Robertson has a balky contract that includes a high base salary and cap figure in excess of $11 million that will need restructuring if he's ultimately dealt. But the feelers the Jets are putting out at the combine to gauge the market, which certainly has piqued the Broncos' interest, has more to do with the defensive tackle's lack of a fit within New York's 3-4 scheme than finances. Robinson is regarded as a high-character performer and would be a solid acquisition as an experienced player in his prime at a need position with Denver. > http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2008/feb/25/slowiks-top-priority-will-be-stopping-run/
I'm glad we're are finally looking to get rid of the guys who don't fit. I know Vilma and Drob have a lot of talent, but it's time to fully commit to the 3-4 and this years draft seems to have so much talent, it's a great time to stockpile the picks.
Trade Pennington, Robertson, and Vilma... but don't trade Coles. Please don't trade Coles. I agree with the above poster about compiling draft picks.
Robertson has played better lately under Mangini than he did under Herm and I wouldn't be too quick to discard him. He's struggled somewhat at NT but I don't think he ever belonged there to begin with. Denver's 2nd Rounder? Nah... I say we keep him, move him over and look for a legit NT.
I'm on the fence with this one. While Robertson has played better, he still hasn't come close to living up to expectations, and if it is a 2nd round pick...well that's pretty tantalizing. We can find ourselves a decent offensive lineman with that pick.
With Denver's 2nd rounder we would have a shot at either Red Bryant or Athyba Rubin. Both young. Both are less of a salary cap hit.
I agree w/the above posters to take Denver's 2nd round pick --- minimum. Nothing less than that. No 3rd rounder. We need to stockpile picks in this draft because I feel the talent level between 1st, 2nd & 3rd round is very close.
D-Rob is definitely better suited for Mile High Stadium than Shaun Rogers. I'd be shocked if the Broncos were going to go out and spend real value on a 340 lb DT after their disappointment in Sam Adams at 350 last year. Adams was rotating series with the Broncos from game 1 until his knee ended his season. He had 9 tackles all season. The tackles he was rotating with weighed 325 and 315 respectively.
I am sort of on the fence. Whatever happens with D-rob is fine with him. Personally I put a lot of the blame on his bad performance on Herm and the coaching staff. I don't think they ever taught him to use his strength with his athleticism. I think this is something that D-Rob has learned to do since spending time at NT. I think if Mangini were here in his rookie year he would have been a pro bowl type player at the 3-4 DE position or 4-3 DT.
I love how people call him a bust when he has played 5 years, and has started all but three games and has been a solid player. He may not be a superstar, but he's a solid player. I think he's a better NT than anyone we can get in the 2nd round.
A second would be HUGE. So much talent in that area. With 2 second rounders it could very well possibly go something like: Gholston Rubin Nicks Oh yes.
Doesnt look good............. The Rocky Mountain News reports that Lions DT Shaun Rogers should be a Denver Bronco by Tuesday. Feb. 25 - 6:15 pm et Source: Rocky Mountain News
Talent and busts abound in all rounds. I had also forgotten that Denver picks #12, so their 2nd Round pick is fairy high. Fair enough... that's a significant pick. I'm also well aware of my many knocks on DeWayne early on, under Herm, who used to favor Robertson that first year of TC like you'd favor a new puppy. Double helpings of fried chicken at the Netherlands... mounds of mashed potatoes with gravy.... the guy would stumble out of the chow hall and barely make it to his brand new red Hummer, all pimped out in chrome and black. THOSE were the years that D-Rob really needed and didn't have. Herm did nothing for D-Rob. But be that as it may, Robertson has held his ground since then, fellas. Nose Tackle? Seriously? No, he's not. Nowhere near heavy enough, yet he's held the position. So come on, give some credit now. We can still use him, we just need to get ourselves a legitimate NT. Think depth too, if nothing else.
i would do the trade but drob still is our best linemen and u think the line sucked this year...wait til next year without him if hes traded
