Square peg round hole philosophy at it's best, so guess he's going to cut or trade Drob, Thomas, Coleman, Barton, Hobson and rebuild the team on the fly good fricking luck with that. Mangenius my ass more like a Mangina.
I like Vilma. He is a smart, seemingly hard working and athletic player. That being said, he was outplayed by a rookie 2nd rounder this year, by a mile. I'm sure part of it was an injury, but the other part? Probably typical Miami player pouting. There really will be no room for that stuff on this team. I heard an interview with Zach Thomas on Sirius the other day about playing in the 4-3 versus the 3-4. He said its not that big a difference, but the 3-4 gives you more options and is a little harder for the QB to read. He said people have me pigeon holed as a 4-3 because of my size, but I prefer the 3-4 and played it all year. Ray Lewis got in Vilmas ear about the 3-4, because his stats went down in it as well. He stopped complaining once the Ravens got Ngata. At this point Vilma is a backup on this team, why is everyone crying? If he started out in a 3-4 this would never be an issue. Remember, Belicheck was persueing moving up to get Vilma on draft day because he thought he would be perfect for his D. So why is he not perfect for Mangini's? Because he doesn't want to be. If they trade him for less than a 4th they better send him somewhere cold.
I could probably say im "ok" with letting him go. And then Ill watch that video of him, the one where hes in a dark room talking about how hell never give up etc. Anyone know what im talking about? I want to see that again.
how can u possible say that vilma doesn't "want to be" good in the 3-4. I'm sure he loves that his future with his team is in question and he is not an elite player. Vilma is a leader and has shown that he is one of the most hard working players on this team. What you said is the complete opposite of reality.
ROFLMAO. Yes. Farrior gets booted out of town cuz we're switching from a 3-4 to a 4-3 and now Vilma is getting booted out of town because we switched from a 4-3 to a 3-4. I have this kind of Merry-go-round feeling right now and those always made me puke after a few spins when I was a kid,
Secret plan: buy a scrub's jersey, somebody like Brandon Moore. We seem to keep scrubs around forever.
This "typical Miami guy" acknowledged his below standard play in 2006, made ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSES (unlike Ray Lewis) and vowed to improve. He watched hours and hours of footage of the Pats Bruschi because he was COMPLETELY DEDICATED to improving his play within the 3-4 system.
I like Vilma too, although I think he was a bit over-rated as a 4-3 linebacker, fitting more into the very good player category than the star dome. That said, he really is not a fit for the 3-4 and he really did have a congenital knee problem, which has now blown up on him, and it's probably better that the Jets get some value for him if that value can be had. If he has no trade value they need to keep him though for the time being. You can't just cut good players even if they don't fit your system, you have to get something for them. Hell, if the Jets keep Vilma around it may be Mangini and the 3-4 that ultimately leave town next season, who knows?
Guess the truth hurts. I don't think he is a bad guy and Rhodes credits him for showing him how to watch film, but where there is smoke, there is fire.
If he wasn't pouting, how come every beat writer in NY KNEW he hated the system. Just because he wasn't vocal in public, doesn't mean he wasn't ticked. It doesn't mean he didn't try either. If your the boss and your employees don't believe in what you are doing, it probably won't work. Ask Coughlin about that. Vilma is a very good player, great, however is highly debateable. Why do I say this? Beause after he was hurt the D was much better. This was not a coincidence. The best part of a Jet fans season last year was getting to see what Harris is. This doesn't happen unless Vilma goes down.
You're confusing not liking the system with pouting. They are not the same. Lots of people dont like things about their job but they show up and do the best they can anyway, without pouting. You're mixing apples and bananas.
i am glad for him and for us that he is going and it is long overdue. i loved him as a MLB but he obviously does not fit. I just wish we could have done it when his value was peaking instead of waning.
