http://yankees.lhblogs.com/ I guess they had to give Ensberg #21 because of the lack of numbers, but hopefully this means they'll stop retiring the numbers like crazy, even though I love O'Neill. Other links and audio on that page, as well.
I don't like the name change of Legends Field to Steinbrenner Field. The naming went from honoring all the great players of the past to honoring a man who has been suspended by baseball by mulitple times.
More amazing than that to me is that the way he's seen by a large part of the fanbase these days, like he's never done anything wrong. I don't know if it's a product of too many fans too young to remember, but there was a time when we Yankees fans were happy Steinbrenner was suspended from running the team. In reality, it was only because he was forced to STFU, and let others get the work done, that we had all the success over the past decade. It does seem like the Council is looking at his philanthropy, which is cool. Obviously his sons are going to agree with the change, and there's no way George is going to turn it down, his ego could never shrink enough. It'll definitely be a PITA to say. It should at least be called the George M. Steinbrenner Legends Field. That way, at least people can say Legends Field for short, but George can have a nice sign on the front of the park.
I feel the reason we had another dynasty was b/c George was suspended in the early 90s and Gene and Buck were left alone to do their jobs. George did stay out of things for the most part during the dynasty years but he went back to 80s George following the '01 WS loss and that's a major reason we haven't won a WS since 2000. A better solution would have been to rename the entire complex after george while keeping the Legends Field name for the Stadium.
Eh, I don't know if I can blame George for everything since 2000. But you and I will never agree on the reason, so it's not really worth discussing. I do agree that him being out of the loop allowed the club to rebuild into the late-90s team. I think your idea is perfect. The complex can be named for him, but the field should stay Legends.
Mike, maybe you should have used some PEDs. Interesting that Guidry is coming back to help. Keep him away from the kids. Let him work with Moose. I can understand not giving Torre's number away right now (besides, who on the team deserves a single-digit that doesn't have one except ARod), but why Bernie's? He's not coming back, even if he wants to. I'm surprised they gave a pitcher Roger's number. Just from a PR perspective, wouldn't it have made a little more sense to just give it to a positional guy? Or was that already his number in the past?
what the fuck difference does it make who wears what numbers and what the field is called.....geez alio and junc, could you find anything less interesting and minute to talk about? carry on
Oh stop being bitter that I beat you. Seriously, I am dying for games to start. I'm suffering from sports-withdrawl. This has to be the worst few weeks of the year. First we go for a couple weeks without either football or baseball. Then we have a month's worth of meaningless baseball games, coupled with the worst tournament in all of sports taking over an entire month of sports-tv. I need to talk about baseball. Anything but steroids-related is fine.
this is definitely the worst time o year sports-wise.......but you sound like Michael Kay talking about that inane shit- thats right bitch, I called you Kay
That's messed up bro. Really messed up. It was inane though, I'll admit that. I just need something to talk about.
George doesn't get all the blame, many people played a role but he brought in a bunch of overpriced big names that didn't fit in well. If he allowed the baseball people to make all the decisions I think we would have seen an extension of the latest dynasty.
This is bad and again makes me say that I doubt Pettitte survives the season. Should have gotten Santana. We'll see if he even shows up tomorrow. I have doubts about that too. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/b...yankee_brass_feel_duped_after_giving_and.html
I give that article a big, "Meh." You think he's not going to survive the season because of this? You must not give him very much credit in the first place.
lets not lose sight of the fact that he wasnt sure if he wanted to pitch in the first place this year
No, I think he won't survive the season because he doesn't come across as the type who feels the abuse he is going to take will be worth it. It's not like he needs or even cares about the money. He is already 4 days late and if he can't hack it who exactly will be our starting left hander? I guess Igawa.
