Report: Ravens to franchise tag :sad:Terrell Suggs

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports the Ravens will place the franchise tag on prospective free agent DE Terrell Suggs.

Schefter also says that  Nnamdi Asomugha  will get the tag from the Raiders, which is hardly a surprise. Others who could be franchise tendered as early as today: Chiefs DE Jared Allen, Cardinals LB Karlos Dansby, and Titans DT Albert Haynesworth. Other possibilities closer to the Feb. 21 deadline: Randy Moss, Dallas Clark, Jordan Gross, and Bernard Berrian. Feb. 7 - 8:44 am et

I heard Howard Balzer saying the Pats can't franchise Randy Moss because he is due some huge roster bonus. If they don't pay it to him he essentially becomes a Free Agent.....

I think Randy Moss makes more sense for this team than Chad Johnson. Ocho has more speed than our Coles and Cotchery, but he's basically the same type of player.

What we lack is a tall receiver and somebody that consistently draw the double coverage. Moss could be an MVP for us and never catch a pass because of all the single coverage Coles and Cotch would get.

While this is true and all, I think you have a better chance of being struck by lightning than the Patriots letting Moss walk. Whatever they owe him, he is worth it.

This would have been a poor expenditure. Suggs totals have declined precipitously the last few years. I think he only had 5 sacks last year. That's the same as Arizona's Calvin Pace, who will also be on the market and will probably come cheaper. I'm not comparing the players, but Suggs decline is troubling.

i'm not convinced we need to rid ourselves of vilma, and get some high priced fa, to improver our lb's. i think vilma, harris, barton( not so crazy with him, but i can live with it)and bryan thomas, i don't really think we are so bad at that position. i also like how they moved ellis around at the end of the season. any thoughts?

Change is necessary. Our LBs were ineffective outside of Barton. Barton must go, and I really hope Thomas goes. Vilma we may have to keep simply because he may be untradeable at this point.

I do think that Ellis will probably moe around again this year, but I dont think he will make the move to OLB...although there was talk that Mangini likes him as a Willie McGinest type...who knows...but as far as the LB's go...I would def. not want to let Vilma go...with him and Harris, they could tear it up, but if Vilma has a very unproductive year next season with no lingering knee affects, then you would have to think about...as far as the OLB's go...Im not a huge fan of Barton, he is getting older and he seems just average...and Bryan Thoms, right now, is a huge waste of money...he misses so many tackles, I hope he progresses because its a waste having him there, they should move him back to DE...but what do I know

Vilma is definately NOT untradeable, he is young and one of the best 4-3 LB's in the league...

It will come down to drafting this year once again since all major options will be most likely franchised... This is a deep draft since the juniors declared.. we need to stockpile and take advantage.

There are still quite a few viable targets in FA for the Jets.

It's not that he declined, it's just that the Ravens moved back to a 4-3 so he wasn't used as a pure pass rusher any more. Though his sacks went down, his tackles went way up.

    Doesn't Suggs play DE in a 4-3?

Randy Moss is unique. He's the only receiver in the NFL who can draw double coverage and run by both players for the catch. It's one of his signature moves and it's why he got the 23 TD's this year. He and Terrell Owens are probably the two most dangerous receivers ever to play the game.

    RB $6,538,000
    WR $7,848,000
    TE $4,522,000
    P/K $2,514,000
    OL $7,455,000
    DE $8,879,000
    DT $6,363,000
    LB $8,065,000
    S $4,396,000
    CB $9,465,000
