Cashman played it perfectly, if he could have gotten Santana w/o giving up Hughes he probably would have done it but as usual teams want more from the Yankees than they do from other teams.

What's up w/ the fat Artie face avatar?

Artie can be funny but the show was much better w/ Jackie.

the twins i guess just wanted johan out of the AL, because clearly our package was better than the mets package. the mets did not even give up their number one prospect.

    JUST Kennedy and Wang?

    Now I'm a little disappointed.

Whose the "they" you speak of dwalsh?

Edit: I take back my comment.

I'm a fan of Wang, but it makes you think that perhaps if this deal went down that it wouldn't be such a loss for the Yankees as far as who we gave up goes. It depends on the prospect as well.

Eh, I'm a little mixed on my feelings if it was "just" Wang and Kennedy. On the one hand, both are young, and could be the best 3-4 punch in the majors when Hughes and Chamberlain are full-timers.

On the other hand, a rotation of Santana, Chamberlain, Hughes, my aunt Sally, jonnyd would be freaking sick in the postseason.

I think maybe the Yankees finally said "Enough is enough, go F yourselves."

    2009:

    Santana
    Chamberlain
    Hughes
Bottom two of either Sanchez, Brackman, Horne, or some other prospect

    Holy f-ing F.

Given how cheap the Twins are, though, I don't think they would pay Wang's arbitration money.

He likes numbers that end in 5, I thought he would've waited until next year when Mussina is gone to get #35.

    Maybe he gets Pavano's #45.

I would bet either something happened with Pavano's 45, either that or 34

    I love Candid Cashman.

    http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2008/01/26/bernie-cashman-feud-heats-up/

Now that Torre's gone, Cash can speak the truth. I like him even more now.

Cash and Theo should start their own comedy team.

    Cash rules everything around me...

If you consider them together, Cashman and Epstein are the best GM combination in all of sports.

I love how he kicks Torre and Williams when they're down! Awesome!

Fine. Johnny, here's the bench. Hideki, get out in left and earn your paycheck.

    Damon is such an a$$hole.

If Hughes spends any time at all on the DL this year or doesn't in fact win at least 15-17 games you can wave goodbye to Cashman at the end of the season. He bet his job on the Santana thing and while he says he doesn't care, I'm sure he does.

He has done absolutely nothing to improve the team this off season and you can even say he made it worse by letting Vizcaino go. The bullpen is worse then ever with Chamberlain as a starter, they still don't have an ace for the top of the rotation and still no first baseman worth two cents. They have 3 or fours guys fighting for the DH spot with a combined salary of 50 million dollars. Cashman is just pathetic bvut it will all come home to roost now.

The good news is there will be 85 million coming off the books after this year. It will be interesting to see how the new GM decides to spend it.

    Giambi - 21,000,000
    Abreu - 16,000,000
    Pettitte - 16,000,000
    Mussina - 11,000,000
    Pavano - 11,000,000
    Farnsworth - 5,500,000
    Hawkins - 3,750,000
    Betemit - 1,165,000

Hughes does not have to be a great pitcher this year, Cashman is banking on the future of our young pitchers specifically Hughes. Hughes should be better but it would be crazy to expect him to be a dominant pitcher in his 1st full year.
