Just read this, but it appears that the Patriots are thinking about trading their 7th pick to the Bengals for Chad Johnson. If you ask me it would be a stupid trade because there is no one at 7 right now that could replace Chad Johnson. Also even if they want to use the 7th pick and 8th pick on defensive players, while their defense would become stronger their offense would be much weaker. If this trade does become a realistic possibility I think we have to get involved. If that means offering Coles and Vilma in some type of package so be it. I could live with the Bengals getting stronger, but if Moss and Johnson are on the same team there is no one that could stop that combo. Thoughts?

In the event of a perfect undefeated season, why would they even need to consider this trade? FA is for now, draft is for the future. If the now is perfect, why would they hurt their future? to be perfecter?

....... I like when I get to pick 1 issue and then drive it home.. repeatedly!! Vilma, will not be well enough by the draft to pass a physical. This makes him unqualified for draft day rumors.

Just cant see the PATS getting him. How can they afford this? They just signed A. Thomas last year. They just signed Welker. They signed Richard Seymour making him 1 of the highest paid guys in the league on defense. Chad Johnson wants a long term deal w/a lot of money. They already have their hands filled w/Randy Moss - they either have to franchise him or sign him to a long term deal. Dont you think they would use the $$ for Asante Samuel? Plus - Chad Johnson just turned 30. I dont think any player at 30yrs old is worth the 7th overall pick in the draft. I just dont see it.

Nah, they can get Ocho Cinco cheaper then Asante, so they'll give Ocho the big contract, and move him to CB. Then, when the madden ratings come up, Ocho's value will skyrocket.

    Mark it down.

If Cinn did this they would be hated by the rest of the league.

The Pats need to worry about resigning Randy Moss and working out a deal with Stallworth (he is owned a huge bonus). Chad Johnson should be the last thing on their mind, and probably is.

And the Pats sending the 7th pick to the Bangels for a WR when they are already stacked at WR (with or without Moss) does not make much sense. It sounds like BS to me. No way this happens.

I would love to see Ocho Cinco in green and white. He is one of my favorite non-Jets in the league. Too bad he isnt exactly a character guy that Mangini gets a hard on for. God I hope he doesnt go to the dolphins then i wont be able to like him anymore.....

I hate to say it but that trade would be a win-win for both organizations. The Pats would make their receiving corps even more ridiculous than it already is (Stallworth is gone so they are definitely looking for a replacement), and the Bengals would have the opportunity to rebuild their defense, which is sorely needed since they may have one of the 3 worst in the league...

I think the Pats might be overpaying by making that trade, but then again with the amount of talent they have on their roster overpaying to get their guy might not be such a big deal to them.

Johnson is willing to play for any playoff team. He pretty much said so on ESPN this morning.

As for the trade, considering the Pats gave up a 2nd for Welker and 4th for Moss, I don't see them throwing the #7 at the Bengals. That being said, why wouldn't they let Moss walk and trade for Johnson. Why tempt fate twice with Moss who they got the perfect season out of. Furthermore, they can add another top flight WR that is hungry to win and will be on his best behavior (for at least a year).

Because Moss wouldn't cost them the 7th pick in the draft?

I don't really see Chad Johnson commanding the 7th pick in the draft at this point. My scenario was based on the Pats acquiring him for something less.

If the Pats do trade for a Vet it will be a Linebacker or a Cb to replace Samuel if they do not resign him. To add Chad Johsnson to that offense would be a waste when they have aging Vets on Defense that have to be upgraded.

Doesn't this belong in the NFL forum?

Anyways, I don't see this happening, at least not for the Pats 1st rounder unless they get Johnson and more in return. Stallworth is going to be gone next year, which would leave a spot open for his position since Welker almost always plays in the slot and Stallworth goes wide and while '85 with Randy Moss and Tom Brady would make this offense look like the '00 Ravens, I don't see Chad Johnson coming to this team for any reason other than the Patriots for some reason being unable to re-sign moss.

With a draft class this deep and the Pats without their original 1st rounder, I just don't see Johnson for 7th overall pick happening.

Edit: But I wouldn't rule it completely out of the question...I would have said "no way in hell" about Randy Moss last year and that ended up happening. I've heard BB rave about how good he thinks Johnson is and I did read that writer at one point refer to ocho cinco as the "ed reid of offense for BB".

They've been talking about that on the radio, here in miami all day. The rumors are on high steam about this. Supposedly he is given the bengals hell, because he wants to be traded to miami. I like the guy, but if he ends up in the fins, I have no choice but to hate him.

First of all, this is the NFL and not MLB. Second, when you are coming off a 4-12 season, you make moves to improve your team, not to keep someone away from another team. Third, WR is way down the list of needs. No Johnson trade!
