Right now I feel the Pats are our "Archrivals" the bad blood between the organizations is worse than it ever was against the fins since the A.J. Duey game.Lets recap. 1) We stole Parcells and signed Martin.Give draft picks. 2)They hired Carroll 3)We kill them in Tuna Bowl 1. 4) Bilicheck resigns as HC of NYJ to take same position w/ Pats. 5)We go crazy. Get draft picks. 6)Belicheck publicly trashes the Jets organization.Hires people from Jets org and ex- players. 7)The Pats win a bunch of SB's. Now I want to barf. 8) We hire his top assistant. Mangini. Against BB's wishes. 9) He pretends Mangini doesn't exist and won't say his name. 10)BB can't bring himself to properly shake hands after a loss to Mangini. 11)Spygate. Costs them respect and a #1 pick. 12) They go undefeated. Can you tell me in the last 15 years when we have ever had blood this bad with the fins? The fins thing is more fun, we take over their stadium when we play there. The Pats are a blood feud.
George Young was hired 30 years ago. Young also hired Ray Handley. Coughlin came thisclose to be being fired last year. Gilbride has always been a controversial OC and has also been roundly criticized and almost fired. This is not "planning" or good management by the Giants - it is lightening in a bottle.
Young and Accorsi were both absolute top football guys better than anyone the Jets have brought in at the top of football operations since Ewbank. Shoty isn't in the same class as Gilbride as far as play calling and scheme. Twice in the 90's in a 32 team league isn't lightening in a bottle, the Giants are a built team.
Look I am not nor am I destined to be the owner of the NYJs so why deal in something that will never/ever occur. OTH why do you not explain to all of us IYHO why we are 0-7 in the last 7 years in getting to the SB & the Pats are 4-7? That is of far more importance then what I would do if I owned the NYJs which again will not occur
It is a good thing Damien Robinson isn't playing for us anymore. BTW, I do agree, that the fued between us and NE is probably one of the most heated in the NFL.
Winny at the time of SB3 there were 4 equal partners of NYJs with Wberlin being the CEO & COO or managing director if you like. Wberlin was in the record biz & realized what was needed to have the NYJs compete with the NYGs who because they were around for 35 or so more years were by far the more popular team in NY. Now flashback to 65 when Wberlin went out & signed JWN which at that time was a monster contract WITHOUT getting the approval of Hess or the other 2 partners. Hess seethed about this for years & finally got so pissed that he overpaid Wberlin to get rid of him. Now Hess became the majority owner owing 50% of the stock which was the harbinger to the beginning of the CHEAP era because Hess had ZERO that is ZERO passion for the NYJs. Over the next few years Hess bought out the other 2 partners & now was the 100% owner of the NYJs. Hess also had an accountant in charge of Hempstead & it appears from what I see Woody has just adopted Hesses practices to a "T".
So basically what seperates the Jets from the 2 Super Bowl teams is luck, according to you. Money, smart drafting and player moves, good coaching philosophy and determination to win have nothing to do with it. Hell, I'll give you the Brady thing, who knew they had a hall of fame QB sitting on the bench. However, "it ain't just that". 40 years is a hell of a run of "bad luck".
What the hell is the point of this thread? There are lots of owners that are "dedicated and interested" in their teams winning. It never really works out that way. Daniel Snyder's Redskins were a joke before Joe Gibbs came out of retirement. It was his idea to throw excessive amounts of money at mediocre talent. Expect them to return to joke status. Jerry Jones getting involved lead to the Quincy Carter era in Dallas. Wayne Huizenga is involved and Miami has been a joke since the Shula era, a soft team that crumbles when they're good and reeks when they're bad. Bob Kraft is involved because he hired a good minds in Belichick and Pioli and got lucky on a late round quarterback. He's involved to the extent that he hired staff and built a stadium. He had to. Foxboro was one of the all-time dumps in professional sports and he was missing out on a lot of money making opportunities through luxury suites and corporate sponsorship. My only disappointment with Woody Johnson is that he is moving the Jets to Jersey in the full sense and that he had no interest in building the Jets a home of their own in Queens. He owns the franchise, so as much as I didn't appreciate his agreement with the Giants after months of pining that the Jets "deserved their own home," it's his franchise and he's trying to make a buck, just like the rest of us. The idea that this guy is cheap is as absurd as the idea that he doesn't want to win. Winners sell, winners are more in demand. If spending money were the way to win, we'd be doing it. Complaining because Tannenbaum and Mangini realized it would be stupid to spend money on an over the hill guard and didn't pursue big name free agents is absurd. The plain truth of things is that the Pats, Steelers, and Colts have won the last three Super Bowls and all of those teams use a similar blueprint to the one I believe Tannenbaum and Mangini have in mind. It focuses on smart spending and talent development. -X-
Well then how do you explain that in the last 7 years we have made ZERO times that is ZERO appearences in the SB while the NEPs have been there now 4 times.
Yup, all of that has heated up the Border War. Shorter memories allow that to overshadow 30 YEARS of brawling back and forth.
The rivalry w/ NE is more of a rivalry for us, NE views it more as a nuisance. NE's recent dominance has done nothing but put our real rivalry on the backburner... I think with the NFL's current structure, every team in the league has a rivalry with NE and everything else is secondary right now...
Yes but he does not explain as to why in the last 7 years the Pats have gone to 4 SBs & we have gone to ZERO
The Cardinals have been to zero The dolphins have been to zero The bills have been to zero The Chiefs have been to zero The texans have been to zero The chargers have been to zero The packers have been to zero The Lions have been to zero The browns have been to zero The Bengals have been to zero The jaguars have been to zero The Niners have been to zero The Vikings have been to zero The Falcons have been to zero The Saints have been to zero The Redskins have been to zero I'd like an explanation for ALL of these teams including the jets
You'll get your answer when you find where your balls went and respond in the thread made just for you and fill us in with all of this great knowledge you claim to have.
If I were as old and suffering as that guy, I'd probably be as upset as he is. As bad as we were last year I don't think we're that many players away. I'm expecting good things this offseason. Bottom line is, Woody Johnson is not a football guy, so I'm sort of glad he's not acting like one. If we were trying to build a squad of preppy young hedge funders or leisure sailors, I'm sure he'd have some kind of knowledge that would be worthwhile. We're not. The Rooneys are football people. As much as Yankees fans appreciate George Steinbrenner's attitude towards winning and his inane demands for results, they only come when he has good baseball people in place. It's going to be the same here. I think we have the right guys. -X-
Kurt, that's a fair point. But here's where I'm at with this, and maybe it's that I had some sort of weird epiphany this year: I'm not going to give the Jets administration (owner, management, coaches) the luxury of comparison to other teams. Being better than the Lions, Browns and Bengals isn't going to cut it for me anymore, because that's an easy excuse for failure. You know as well as anyone on this board that we invest time, emotion, and money in this team, and the return on investment has been mediocre. A few spikes, but otherwise continued failed expectations. I can't be satisfied that we are running on-par with other teams when we were all but knocked out of the playoff hunt in October. Why I've chosen this year for the lights to suddenly click on, as opposed to any other over the last two decades, I cannot explain. I'm impatient with the whole thing, now. A perfect example: I grumble at the number of times I've read that I have to wait to see if Kellen Clemens matures into a quality QB next year, when I've already waited a TON of next-years. I'm at the point where, having not shown enough spark for my tastes, I'm looking for the next option. Something like what Murrell suggests in his thread, for example. Something else - and that's the true point. Maybe this new stadium will be the spark we need. Maybe it will spawn a new tradition of winning for the Jets. Regardless, I'm not going to make losing easy for this owner or this management, and I'm not going to take promises of success "next year" and swallow it blindly.
Oh i'm not saying I'm satisfied w/ the current state or the past state of the franchise. I'm flat out DESPERATE for a championship. I'm so sick of the dissapointments, and watching teams I hate become dynasties...you have no idea. I'm just pointing out the irrationality another poster displays w/ some of his demands of explanations. There are over 50% of NFL franchise who dont have any SB appearances in the last 7 years.
You see that is yours & other peoples out. Other teams have not been to a SB so it is NO big deal we are no different then them so what the heck just sit back & relax & continue to enjoy the losing. Man that makes my head spin instead of DEFENDING them you should be saying yes I am POed & it has to stop but for some unkown reason you & others repeatly defend them which totally befuddles the heck out of me. There are so many on this board that are willing to accept medicore teams or even losing team. Unless you root for any of the teams you mention you should not care one hoot about them nor compare them to us. All you doing is reconfirming that we are bottom dwelling team
