If Woody Johnson has an ounce of ego...

Discussion in 'New York Jets' started by GSourJr, Jan 21, 2008.

  1. I can attest to this as I live in CT's "football fan melting pot". Before 2001 It was likely set like this: Giants 35/pats 30/ Jets 20/ 15 Misc.(And likely more Jets/less Pats in parts South of New haven). Since 2001 The jets are down to about 10 and the Pats are up to around 40 or 50.

Good post, Joe. I pretty much agree with this. Jets fans get all over anything and everything they can find to vent their anger, even if it's misdirected. Who cares, as long as I'm venting?

I'm not knocking venting here, mind you. It's better than kicking the cat or breaking the TV. And when you invest emotionally, as most of us do, in a team that year-after-year provides hope and then seems to always find a way to disappoint in extremely cruel fashion, it gets to you.

We all need to direct our anger in the right direction... that being at Champ. It's all Champs fault.

Sorry 227 there was NO hope in 2007. Sorry to say your eyes & ears were not open if you believed otherwise. 2008 & 2009 are going to me NO better then 07 in terms of being a losing team. Sure they may improve there record from 4-12 to say 6-10 or maybe 7-9 but that still is a LOSING team no matter how you choose to slice & dice it. Also I can insure you if I was born with the golden spoon ala Woody & could afford to fork out 600 & so millions you fans would be in seventh heaven because you would have a owner whose ONLY goal would be to win CHAMPIONSHIPs for Florham Park! But alas I was not & did not. I hope everyday that somebody who was a passionate NYJ fan & had the hunger to see us win a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP would step in & buy the team from Woody

Would you also provide your team with a Hukt on Foniks book to help understand wtf you are talking about? No one would be able to figure out what you're saying in any press release, and would the team roster list SLW next to all of the players? :rofl2:

Leadership is not just about the owner. The Jets one SB came as a direct result of Sonny Werblin, Weeb Ewbank and Joe Namath. Leadership, leadership and leadership.

The Giants have a solid owner they had a solid GM who when he thought he had his man as the leader on the field didn't worry about overpaying. He didn't worry about overpaying to protect him either and he didn't worry about bringing in a tough coach to crack the whip. The Pats have the same formula and the Jets only SB had the same formula.

It's the owner the GM, the Coach and the QB the rest of the team follows that lead.

Judging by how you are here, you would probably have the flag flying upside down or backwards with your thinking.

I want to know what's REALLY important around here. I want to know my position on the Spread Sheet.

And don't hold anything back... I can handle the truth. At least, I think I can!

The NFL is banking on a playoff system that rewards mediocrity with full attendance and huge advertising revenue. Unfortunately greatness isn't financially rewarded in the NFL at the ownership level at the moment. With a recession upon us and bonus money drying up in the NYC area it will be interesting to see if corporations fork over big PSL money in tough times for a bad product? The Jets could be on the verge of more than second class status if they aren't very careful.

Werblin understood this more than any Jets owner because in his day the Jets would not survive without a top notch product and it's not a coincidence that we had one under his leadership.

Here's the difference: winning 3 or 4 super bowls in a decade does create a bandwagon effect, however it also creates a long-term effect. There are going to be a bunch of core Pats fans that remember THIS team of this decade for the rest of their lives and that will support it through thick and thin based on that.

That's how the Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Redskins, SF 49ers and Dallas Cowboys all got to the top of the NFL heap. It has taken the worst possible management team more than a decade to bring the 49ers down. None of the other teams has come down since their big run despite lapses in the interval.

I have no doubt that the Pats will be the #1 team in Southern New England for most of the rest of my lifetime, based both on the fact that the Giants and Jets deserted the area and on their 3 or 4 title run.

If the Jets were going to move somewhere why not move 15 miles NORTH of the city and grab some territory for their own instead of piggybacking on the Giants twice in a row.

The Giants have traditional quiet NFL owners that let the football people run the team. They have a first year GM with no track record of leadership or success. They have a coach who was on almost every pundits list of coach most likely to be fired. Lastly, they have a QB who has been knocked his entire career for NOT being a leader. So how the heck are they in the Super Bowl?????

They had the foresight to go out and get football people. We have an accountant.

Tannebaum learned from Parcells. When Parcells was considering taking the Tampa job in 2002 he wanted to bring Tannebaum along to be his GM.

OK Champ. Here's another opportunity for you. You say that if you owned the Jets the fans would be in 7th heaven because your goal would be to win a championship. OK - you are the owner. What would you do differently from Johnson? What would you do, specifically, to make the Jets a championship team? Don't cop out and say you would spend money on the best coaches and players. Name names. Give us your master plan, please.

    Who would be your GM?

Who would you hire as HC?

Who would you want as your OC and DC

What players on the current roster do you build your team around

Who is your QB of the future - Pennington, Clemens, or somebody not on the roster?

If the QB is not on the roster, who is it? Which free agent or draft pick?

How would you rebuild the OL?

How would you rebuild the defense so that it is championship caliber?

Who would you take with the sixth pick?

What would you do to make the fans so happy?

    You have the floor.

You're right, and he is constantly calling Parcells for advise about players... until now that Parcells is in charge of one of our biggest division rivals. Parcells is a micromanager and I'm not surprised he would want a yes-man numbers guy to do all the annoying non-football stuff at the top of his Front Office.

Actually I'm in New London Ct. North of the city would be no better for me than the Meadowlands if it took me off of I-95.

Parcells wanted Tannenbaum for ONE thing. The cap. You really think Tannenbaum would have had input in any other area with Parcells as the head coach?

GM's have many more things that they need to have down than the ability to manage the salary cap. There's no evidence at this point that Tannenbaum has anything but cap management as an advanced skill.
