The WSS would have helped tremendously in giving us identity, but no! Hey, at least you can still tailgate.
You comparing apples & oranges IMHO when you compare Pats & Boys fans. In any case I sincerly think you are way off track with your post. Actually I think it is provoked out of sheer jealously that the NEPs are so good & we are so bad
I think you have no way to respond. My point holds, whatever bandwagon fans they have now will all jump ship the second they go 7-9.
227 sorry have to disagree with you on certain points of this post. First who hired Herm? Who hired Bradway? Why no one else then the Woody right? So he made his own bed & now has to take all the reprecussions that comes from hiring of those 2 ding a lings. All the rest of what you said is ALL benefical to Woody otherwise he would not have done it. You notice in your post you never mentioned improving the team now did you? That is because Woody knows he DOES NOT have to do that since all the season tix are sold year after year with fans even having to pay a annual fee to be on the waiting list. To me at least the only thing that matters is winning CHAMPIONSHIPs because that is why they play the game so while all that whip cream & cherry stuff stuff you mentioned is just fine it does not bring us 1/8 of a step closer to being CHAMPIONs
Will see but I will stand by my opinion they will not fold just like they did not fold for the BRS after 80 or so years or even like the NYJ fans now going on 40 years
But what does that matter?! I mean that as a serious question. Why the hell does it matter to me?! How does the Patriots' attendance, bandwagon or not, effect the Jets?! My problem is with THIS team. THIS management. THIS coaching staff. THESE players. I'm at the point now where I'm less jealous about what they're doing and more ANGRY about what we're NOT doing. It's just that simple. But, on the issue of attendance, there have been half a dozen threads this season about the embarrassment of empty seats and early exits on Jets gamedays. Frankly, I see that as a good thing. The last thing people should be doing with their hard-earned money is throwing it into the pockets of this ownership as a tacit endorsement of the way things are going.
Regarding the loyalty of the Pats fans: I think there may be something to this. I was surprised at how few fans showed up for the Jets get at Gillette this year. I asked a friend of mine who lives in Boston about it. He said that the Pats fans are already sated. Sure, they'll show up for the Playoff Games, but they've gotten used to dominating and they won't come out for a lesser opponent or bad weather. I suspect part of this may be that Kraft has priced some of his loyal rank and filers out and he's got corporate accounts holding many of his seats. I think once Brady and or Belichick is gone, you will see a significant fall off in Patriots nation because of the PSLs and ticket prices. It's a lesson that Woody Johnson should pay attention to (along with all the other shit we've been telling to pay attention to!)
Totally agree. With the way this team has been run since Hess, and the fact that I like to think of Jet fans as a pretty loyal bunch, considering all we've had to go through, why should we buy tickets? When we hired Mangini, I applauded Johnson on having the balls to go for a new guy and bring in a whole new attitude. Still, he needs to open up the pocket and the entire regime needs to revamp the Offensive Line and get some more defensive talent.
It is amazing how Jet fans channel misplaced aggression. First, the Giants. If there has been a team that has been know for "absentee" old time NFL ownership - it has been the Giants. How did the Mara and Tisch ownership contribute to the Giants' NFC title yesterday? By retaining Tom Coughlin? Three months ago he was the coach most likely to be fired at year end. One month ago he saved his job by beating Buffalo. Now he is Vince Lombardi Jr and the Giant owners get the credit???? By sticking with Eli Manning? Again, one month ago, Manning was being run out of town. Now, after a three game run, he is Joe Montana and the Giant ownership gets the credit? As for the stadium, the Giant owners are 50% partners with Johnson in the same stadium. How does that make one owner(s) succesful and the other the village idiot????And someone explain how the Giants being the prime tenants in Giants Stadium played a factor in their 7-1 road record this year and in being the third team in NFL history to win three playoff games on the ROAD!!!!! And just how did the Giants open the checkbook this past offseason? Did I miss something? Was it Sam Madison ? Who were the brilliant offseason signings that distinguished the Giants from the Jets??? As for the Patriots, you can talk Kraft all you want, but let's not forget, again, that Mo Lewis is the single most important player in Patriot history. And as for their 2007 offseason, this is the first time the Patriots ever went after big name players. But, Moss and Welker came in trades, not through free agency. And the Pats took advantage of two stupid franchises. Moss, who never should have been traded away by the Raiders, was given away for a song and only came to NE because he saw a chance to win. Why Miami traded Welker is beyond me. The Patriots are the Yankees of the NFL. Everyone wants to play there to "win a ring." It does kind of make it easy to attract free agents. As for Kraft, does anyone think that the Pats willingness to spend money has anything to do with the money Kraft takes in from the new stadiuim??? Or charging the highest ticket prices in the NFL??? The Jets, in the biggest market in the NFL, rank in the lower third in revenues. Maybe Johnson wanted a new stadium to increase revenues to be able to afford to pump more money into the team. Maybe Johnson wants first class facilities in NJ to attract future free agent talent. Everybody holds Steinbrenner up as some ownership god for all other owners to follow. What people fail to realize is that Steinbrenner spends money because he makes money -far more than any other franchise in baseball. Comparing Kraft and Steinbrenner to Johnson is like comparing the guy in monpoly who owns the prime property with the players who owns the low end property. Let's let Johnson build his hotels before we criticize him for being cheap. And let's realize that the Giants are a team that got hot at the right time and caugh a bunch of breaks along the way - which is what it takes to win at this time of year. The 2004 Jets could have been the 2007 Giants for want of a FG kicker . . . . .It really comes down to that.
H'mm then why do the NYJ season tix holders renew there tix year after year? Why do NYJ fans pay to have there name on a wait list for tix? Cubbie fans still the fill stands & it is only 100 years or so. Same with the BRS before they won 2 championships. There are many other examples like the Steelers from the 70s to 2 years ago just to name another one
The point is the Pats had no fans BEFORE they won the SB. And if they slip away like the 49ers did, they too will be back to no fanbase. How many Ravens fans did you see before they won the SB? How about the Bucs? StLouis struggled to fill the seats before their SB run.
You know what who cares since I root for the NYJs so that is all I care about. I am more concerned that we are lowly bottom feeders in the league (yes we are) while the NEPs are on top or most near the top of the NFL food chain
