You forgot to mention you would have to pay him #1 money too..so that eliminates any chance of the Jets moving up to that spot. In fact, they would prefer if their first pick came on day two.

It doesn't make sense from the start. Why would Parcells trade for a guy who isn't cut out for a 3-4?

If Haynesworth does hit the open market he'd certaintly be an option (provided Tangini is willing to dish out the dough), we could also look to the draft (Frank Okam would be a nice fit)

Now that David Harris is the Jets #1 3-4 IMLB... I really hope to GOD that the Jets keep J.Vilma on this team as our #2 IMLB playing alongside Harris for years to come. I'm sorry but not alot of teams have a better #2 IMLB than J.Vilma, and if the Jets can add an outside LB to put pressure on the QB... For example Suggs or even draft Gholston.. We would have 3 Playmakers out of 4 starting LB's...

We do need to fix the D-Line but at the same time, If we Keep Vilma we have the potential to have a really strong group of LB's for years to come.

Lets not forget... You can NEVER have enough LB's in the 3-4 Defense... Just go ask BB and the Patriots.

Getting rid of J.Vilma makes no sence.

I really don't see the Dolphins doing this move for a lot of reasons. The biggest is that Vilma is coming off of surgery. Not just surgery, but knee surgery. Parcell's is way too seasoned to make that kind of misjudgement.

I'm with you.. Not to mention if/when Parcells trades down, he's going to looking to acquire an assload of picks, to help him rebuild the team quickly, like he did here and in Dallas.... He won't be looking for one veteran and a slightly worse pick

Vilma sucks in the 3-4 and its amazing to me that some think hes somehow going to be able to be successful next yr. When vilma got hurt the run d got better. When a rookie steps in and instantly upgrades the position that should tell you something. He doesnt make plays, is engulfed by olinemen and cant get off blocks. He doesnt have the physicality necessary for the 3-4 and because it teams will consistantly run right at him.

He was awesome in the 4-3 but the 3-4 is a whole different animal. He gets manhandled by lead blockers as well. If we could get a 2nd round pick we should take it and run.

I think we're beginning to learn the difference between a guy who studied under Parcells, a pompous but loud mentor-type who wanted the people around him to understand the situations deciding his coaching decisions, and a guy who studied under Belichick, a pompous and secretive type whose main goal is to compartment information like a military intel unit so that the entire picture is obscured to all but the highest lieutenants.

I think that Mangini does have the intelligence and potential and aspirations needed to be a successful HC, but at the ground level, Belichick will be able to have success with players who do not immediately fit the previous schemes, while Mangini will be a competent pretender until he either grows into his role or fails.

    Why would we want Vilma?

You want to get rid of Vilma because he doesn't fit the 3-4 and you want to trade him to us when we're planning on playing the same 3-4?

Not to mention, we'd be losing 1400 value points by moving down to 6. 1400 is worth a #8 overall. That's a pretty big price tag for a guy who would be a project for us. If this is the only offer Parcells gets and we're on the clock then we might as well take Chris Long. Good kid, can play, and he fits.
