unfortunately I believe that Faneca and possibly one of Andrews or Starks will be the only players on that list to actually hit the FA market. Suggs will be re-signed for sure, they were only gonna let one of Adalius or Suggs walk. Asomugha will be franchised or signed to a long term deal.
If we only pick up 1 solid o-line player I will lose all faith in the decision making prowess of the front office.
Realistically we only should pick up on, we can draft a solid rt or lg in the second round and would not have to pay them nearly as much as we would pay these free agents. Also on a side note what happened to justin smiley wasn't he suppose to be a FA, i heard he got hurt but is he recovered and is he going to be available?
27 million under the cap with Rhodes-Coles-Baker looking to do a new contract..Rhodes is getting paid and so is Baker..27 million under the cap BEFORE you pony up for those 3 guys. Lets calm down on the 27 mil figure!
Faneca would be nice but we don't really need someone that great at the position. I always feel that as long as you have quality players at every position on your line, you'll be fine. Maybe one excellent player, but the other four can just be good. That's pretty much how our line was the years we were competitive. Mawae was excellent and then ya had Young/McKenzie, Fabini, Thomas, and Jenkins being good but not amazing.
I Say Asomuagh Gets franchised , i think max starks is a little overated and Suggs will probally get franchised by the ravens.
What if we pick up a bunch of offensive linemen that have been career backups? That will piss me off even more. Why doesn't Tannenbaum just re-sign Wadsworth and convert him into a right tackle? -- and then let him hang around all of training camp for no apparent reason.
Good point. That number could be cut to 18 if they get the money they want from us. But even 18 can get you two big names to fix the lines and have enough for the draft.
All I can say is there a lot of decent players in the FA market this year and we better ante up. If we do what we did last year I will have steam coming out my ears because I will painfully start realizing that we will be likely to only get around 7 wins next year. There are a lot of key ingredients available who fit our shopping list - doing nothing would be incredibly stupid and would hamper our plan of attack in the draft.
Does anyone know if there is some site that details our cap figures? There used to be one and I forgot it. I know that DRob counts 12M toward the cap. If we cut him are we then 40M under the cap?
My Choices for F.A... By Positions ... DEFENSE : NT needed...**Corey Williams - Green Bay; Isaac Sopoago - 49'ers; Ethan Kelley - Browns; **Haynesworth....if available.(Unlikely) DE's: ***Jovan Haye - Bucs.....RFA...6th rd pick...Well worth it **-Reggie Torbor - NY Giants.....Always loved this guy....Perfect as OLB -Terrell Suggs - Good but $$$exspensive...Jets' can draft a player like him in draft. Jets' have so many needs, can sign 3 good players for his price. W/O a NT....doesn't matter who they sign. -Bobby McCrea - Jaguars **-Tommy Kelly - Raiders....very good player LB's: -Calvin Pace - Arizona....6'5"....272 lbs....OLB...ILB... *...Indicates my rankings.
the franchise tag will be in full effect on many players, but there will still be talent available i fully expect the front office to go out and try to address the teams needs...especially at o-line i dont think tanny can afford to sit this offseason out without making a splash...4-12 is an excuse to open the checkbook i am just not sure if the talent will bite...we will get talent and improve, but i expect us to get spurned by some players bc someone will always be offering more or a better chance to win
I hope I am 100% wrong but the NYJ just do not sign big name free agents and in the past, their drafting sucks = 30 years of mostly losing. While I like Chad, when Chap has the highest winning percentage of any Jets QB -- and I think it's just above .500, not a good thing at all.
The big name players go for the money. It is usually what is all comes down to. In some cases players take a lesser deal for a better team, but I think that a lot of players will be interested in the Jets; it is all about the Jets being realistic, smart, and not cheap.
Let the speculation begin.... Re; Fanaca Faneca an option for Seahawks? Wednesday, Jan 9, 2008 7:21 am EST Seems like Al is going to command the highest price possible and there may be quite a few suitors coming in for him. I still say in the long term , Lilja would be a much better option , given his age and skills.
I really think they are going to go after some offensive lineman in free agency. Jordan Gross and Stacy Andrews would be good at RT.
Quality offensive linemen cost as much as stars at most positions in free agency. You can look it up.
