That's been the fallback position here for those who defend the CS. IMO the NYJ coaching this season was poor aside from STs, and it is my belief that better coaching would have produced better results with the talent that was on the roster this year (except for the OL, where there is clearly a dearth of talent).
Meaning a playcaller should have to diversify his play selection a bit, looking to gain any advantage he can to establish a consistent offense.... A poor offensive line is NO excuse for predictability, at all... In fact, it should FORCE a OC to move away from predictability...
You would think that two trusted and valued members of the staff would have some imput on the needs of the team?
That doesnt take the CS staff off the hook for poor gameday decisions and inept halftime adjustments. It also puts tangini on the hook for a poor rebuilding job last year.
Mangini got the jets job after one very mediocre at best season as DC in NE. It was easily the worst defensive year the Pats had in the last 5, by NFL ranking and YPG. Also, BB took the Defensive calls away from him the last 4 weeks of the season because the defensive players bitched about his vanilla calls. 2003- 7th 291 YPG 2004- 9th 310 YPG 2005- 26th 330 YPG with Mangini as DC 2006- 6th 294 YPG 2007- 4th 288 YPG So being successful obviously isn't the only criteria some of these teams use when choosing s coach. Maybe Mangini jumped on the Jets job because he was afraid that he wouldn't get another offer. Thats BS ..you have no idea what your talking about,..Half the feakin defense was injured the first half of the season and the Patriots defense was dominate the 2nd half of the season and MANGINI MADE EVERY DEFENSIVE CALL..Don't listen to any Patriot spin crap..Those are the facts. (I corrected your spelling errors also.)
Perhaps I should have contacted you first to see what your needs were.....or you could just go vomit and shake it off....
You mean like using Brad Smith at QB/HB/WR? Or having Leon throw a pass? Or direct snaps to both Smith and Leon? You're focusing purely on the results. What you're asking for is there...this team runs a TON of trick/gadget plays...we have to because the team itself sucks. Fact is, we've shown many unique offensive alignments. What we need is talent so we can cut that shit out.
I'm focussing on the playcalling.... As of week 8, when T Jones was lined up 8 yards deep, we ran the ball 96% of the time.... That is an EXTREME example of predictable playcalling at its worst... I can sit and not only call out run/pass, but often times tell you exactly where the run is going... Gimmicks are one thing, diversifying your playcalling and keeping the defense on its heels is entirely different.... Schottenheimer has a nice grasp of how/when to call gimmick plays... That's about it
Fact is, most teams offenses are predictable dude. I sat and called when the Giants were going to run and pass all day today. Anyone can call the Patriots gameplan on offense. TALENT is what makes those plays successful. We lack talent in alot of key places.
If you're a great team like NE, you can afford to line up, and let the whole world know what you're doing and succeed anyway... If you're a team with limited talent, like the Jets, you need to rely on the element of surprise a bit to keep the chains moving on offense... If you think otherwise, youre only going to be disappointed...
And...we've...done...that. What...you want it on every play? It's not going to happen. Just the fact that we have to do that kind of stuff tells you the state of the talent level on this offense.
1st down inside the redzone. Can you guess the play calls? 1st down run, no gain 2nd down run, no gain 3rd and long, no TD Kick Field goal Repeat everytime you are in the redzone.
What team have you been watching? 3-5 gimmick plays a game does not equal a playbook that keeps the defense on its heels.... Running essentially the same play, out of the same formation, with the same motion 4+ times every game is the DEFINITION of predictable playcalling.... If you think that this team is not predictable and easy to read for defenses, I don't know what to tell you.... I guess you should probably just go back and watch the games....
QFT.... Yet another perfect example of our predictability.... For the SEASON I can recall MAYBE 5-10 redzone plays where we faked a handoff, and/or threw a pass to the middle of the EZ.... Otherwise, it was a straight run out of a power formation, or a pass to the back of the EZ... If you don't have the personnel to line up and pound it in... Or the WR to execute a fade well (which we didn't once Coles started getting dinged up) you have to figure out other ways to punch it in... When you're lacking in personnel, you can't just assert your will on the opponent.....
