Personally I think wise stunk and would welcome a quality replacement, as far as Shotty goes, I am unsure, last season he was creative, this year I wonder if he was handcuffed...... What are your thoughts and opinions...... 02:21AM - Jets Offensive Line Coach Could Be Heading To Pitt Sunday, January 6th, 2008 by Gary Grund Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt fired offensive line coach Paul Dunn and the top candidate is believed to be New York Jets offensive line coach Tony Wise, who is a longtime friend of Wannstedt and has been on the same staff with Wannstedt at a number of places the past 30 years, including stops in the NFL with the Cowboys, Bears and Dolphins. 01:28AM - Schottenheimer To The Ravens? Sunday, January 6th, 2008 by Gary Grund ESPN?s Chris Mortensen reports that Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer is a candidate for the Baltimore Ravens head coach vacancy. Brian had interviewed last year for the head coaching vacancy in Miami last season and was considered one of the top candidates to replace Nick Saban, but pulled out of the running and remained with the Jets as their offensive coordinator. The Jets? offense ranked 26th statistically this past season and 25th in scoring. In 2006, New York?s offense ranked 25th and 18th in scoring.
No Schotty gets a head coaching position after last year...frankly, I'm surprised he's even being considered, unless his dad is part of the package...Schotty senior seems like a good fit for the defensive minded ravens.
Wow...people are willing to give Schott Jr. a head coach job after this past year? I seriously doubt he'll get hired though IMO.
No way he gets a head coaching job after this season. He's still two or years from really getting serious consideration for a head coaching job. I still think Ryan eventually gets the boot from Oakland. Jets need to bring in Ryan, get a line coach and keep shotty jr. Sign Jacob Bell insert him at LG. Sign another late stage RT and let him and Bender compete. Hopefully Long or Gholston is available at 6 and we get the type of dynamic pass rusher we need. Give Ryan a defense built around Harris, Revis, Rhodes, Vilma and Long/Gholston and see what kind of crazy schemes he can cook up.
Manginin got the jets job after one very mediocre at best season as DC in NE. It was easily the worst defensive year the Pats had in the last 5, by NFL ranking and YPG. Also, BB took the Defensive calls away from him the last 4 weeks of the season because the defensive players bitched about his vanilla calls. 2003- 7th 291 YPG 2004- 9th 310 YPG 2005- 26th 330 YPG with Mangini as DC 2006- 6th 294 YPG 2007- 4th 288 YPG So being successful obviously isn't the only criteria some of these teams use when choosing s coach. Maby Mangini jumped on the Jets job because he was afraid that he wouldn't get another offer.
I'm gonna throw a crazy idea out here and let it bang around for a while: Maybe Brian Schottenheimer isn't actually the problem? Maybe he's a good coach with little talent to work with right now? It's crazy, and probably not true at all...but ya never know.
Rob Ryan is alot more of a wild card like his dad than Rex. I think if Mangini wants to stay with a 3-4 that Rex (barring a head coaching job) would be the better fit. He's been a 3-4 guy for years now, and Rob has stated in the past that he prefers his dads 46 defense.
They lost all of their defensive backs (including Law)by mid-season in 2004, and Seymour for the last 4 games, yet managed to rank in the top 10 and win a superbowl.
Couple that with the fact that Mangini was hired from the PATRIOTS DYNASTY. Schotty Jr. hasn't proven jack himself, nor even been part of a perennial contender. Mangini was also a prior member of the Jets staff and came with high recommendations. There really is no comparison.
Who was the defensive backs coach on that team? They didn't have Brushci until mid season of 2005 who was the key to their defenses thru the years
Why not? Their offense has always been their problem.... Billick was this supposed offensive genius that never really was
