The Jets are the only team that has been "rebuilding" for 35 years. It is crazy to think Chad is the Qb that is going to take this team to the SB or deep in the playoffs. As soon as he got hurt he was done.He never had a strong arm to begin with.I am a Chad fan but I also would like to wear all the shit I buy every year without being looked at like I am crazy for even buying it.Lets try being smart this off season and get some players that will help this team be respectable for once.
We had a winning record in 04 with Quincy Carter at QB, maybe the fact that we had a great running game and defense had more to do with our record in 04 than Chad?
Not really amazed- for years, the Pac teams didnt play any defense, so the competition the offensive guys faced wasnt too good. Then they face real defenses in the NFL and imploded. USC has changed that, but most of the other teams are still lagging behind. otoh, both Nagle and Unitas went to Louisville...
Still, that's an overwhelming track record of failure for one conference. Kinda like Running Backs for the Big 10 (Ron Dayne, Blair Thomas, Kijana Carter, Anthony Thomas, etc., etc.). I guess the takeaway is that the Pac-10 features the pass and the Big 10 features the run and QB's and RB's from those respective conferences tend to have numbers that aren't representative of their NFL aptitude.
Would it make all the people who actually think that passer rating crap means something happy if Clemens Checked down every play and went 30-40 with 150 yards every game just to pump up a stat that means nothing!
^You guys are all throwing stats around, but have you watched the guy PLAY? He almost never, to me, looked like a big time QB. All those other guys that were mentioned, that went on to big careers, even when they were having crappy seasons, at least showed flashes of what they would become. This guy has shown NOTHING. That's what many of us are basing our opinion on, not just stats. Look, Chad is finished, and I wanted Clemens to play to see if he was the guy or if we need to think about the QB position. It looks to me that we need a QB. I honestly hope I'm proven wrong, but I don't think I will be.
How do you explain 2003 then, when we had everything we had in 2002 and 2004 except Chad? We even had Curtis Martin healthy and Vinny still here and couldn't win without Chad.
You didn't have to apologize. It is a common error which is made by many fans due to too many sportswriters and announcers calling it "QB rating." I just happened to quote you because I think you had the most recent post containing the term "QB rating" in the thread up to that point.
This is a stupid stat. These are the top 30 passer ratings of all time. Chad does not have enough games to be on it but he is in the top 10-15 if he did. These stats come directly off of the Pro Football Hall Of fame website for players with a minimum of 1,500 attempts. Please note that Terry Bradshaw was 106, Troy Aikman-31, Bart Starr-37, Joe Namath 129, Johnny Unitas-52 and Terry Bradshaw-106. There are at least 80 Qb's who could not hold Bradshaw's jock that are higher than him. If this crap is used as a barometer to judge a Qb then all the people that are crying for Chad should be happy to know that Daunte Culpepper and his 91.5 rating can be had for less money than chad. He can checkdown all day for less money and has more mobility on one leg. 1 Steve Young * 96.8 2 KURT WARNER 94.1 3 PEYTON MANNING 93.5 4 Joe Montana * 92.3 5 DAUNTE CULPEPPER 91.5 6 MARC BULGER + 90.6 7 TOM BRADY 88.5 8 TRENT GREEN 88.3 9 MATT HASSELBECK 86.64 10 Otto Graham * # 86.63 11 Dan Marino * 86.4 12 BRETT FAVRE 86.0 13 JEFF GARCIA 85.8 14 DREW BREES + 84.9 15 BRIAN GRIESE 84.8 16 Rich Gannon 84.7 17 JAKE DELHOMME + 84.5 18 Jim Kelly * 84.39 19 BRAD JOHNSON 84.36 20 DONOVAN McNABB 84.08 21 MARK BRUNELL 84.07 22 Roger Staubach * 83.4 23 STEVE McNAIR 83.3 24 Neil Lomax 82.7 25 Sonny Jurgensen * 82.63 26 Len Dawson * 82.56 27 Ken Anderson 81.9 28 Bernie Kosar 81.827 29 Neil O'Donnell 81.816 30 Danny White 81.7 31 Troy Aikman * 81.6 32 Dave Krieg 81.50 33 Randall Cunningham 81.47 34 Boomer Esiason 81.1 35 Warren Moon * 80.9 36 Jeff Hostetler 80.48 37 Bart Starr * 80.47 38 Ken O'Brien 80.44 39 Jeff George 80.42 40 Fran Tarkenton *
It is a bad track record, and good point about some of the B-10 RBs. one of the reasons i thought Cutler would develop into a good QB is that he at least played against good defenses in the SEC. Revis otoh looked great to me from the first day he showed up in tc, but i initially had questions about him since he didnt really play against high-powered offenses in the BE, aside from L'ville. But there is always going to be attrition when players move to the next level. A ton of high school stars dont do squat when they get to Div 1, and a ton of college players dont cut it when they get to the league. The draft is a crapshoot.
Did I say that? Chad is under contract so it makes sense. Hell, it could be Rex Grossman and be an upgrade.
This is a long shot, but this team needs to be good next year, because that's all we have until the Dolphins start being competitive. Parcells will have that team good in 2 years, shit might even be next year..
The fins will go 10-6 next year and Fatcells will be a hero......we need to move now if we are going to win any games
And then the Jets will go 6-10 and we will hear that we improved 2 games and the team is on an upswing......Maneatme will be fired.....and we will be looking for a coach.....easy with the old one comment
