Ooh okay pup, so you could see how someone might think he could thrive, but you contend that he cannot.

    Disagree!

With a good/great O-line Chad is certainly a top QB in this league. He has amazing footwork and a mean play action. Those skills can't come through when you have a second or less to get rid of the ball. Agree to disagree. Say whatup to your boy Jamarcus for me.

Again anyone that thinks Chad is a top QB in this league that does not have a time machine set to 2002, is a complete waste of time and just trolling.

I couldn't agree more here. So far the only argument against keeping Chad if Clemens is the starter is because he won't feel comfortable playing in Chad's shadow. I'm all for making the QB position the best it can be, but when the FA out there are guys like Grossman I'll stick with Pennington. Let them battle it out in preseason and we start who plays the best. If Clemens is so much better than Pennington he should get his 2nd season to show something.

how many QBs in the league last year win 10 games on the line we had, where our 2 best players were in their rookie seasons?

There is already a thread for this argument, take it there:

Pennington is a top 10 QB thread

Here is the best most intelligent response:

I doubt any of them could have done better much better. Maybe we would have 2-3 more games won, 4 more at the most. Even with an undefeated season you saw just how mortal Tom Brady was with a pass rush in his grill most of the game. He looked ordinary. If it weren't for the Eagles QB and the Eli throw Int's late in their games we might have seen that perfect season dissolve.

People can't really expect Chad to look great with the way the team played this year, and I don't expect Clemens to look great either being a rookie and playing behind that line. The biggest problems we have are not at QB.

And if that's the case, he won't be mentally tough enough to be a QB in New York anyway. I don't think that is the case, seeing as the two worked very well together this year through a trying season.

For reference sake, Chad took over and played his first year and a half with Vinny standing there on the sidelines. Vinny who took us to the AFC Championship game and had the respect of everyone in the NFL. Not to mention a rocket arm. If you're good enough you're not worried about who is there and who isn't.

agreed. So I hope they do move him out, so he can be successful elsewhere.

I'd like to see him stay, but I am not sure that will happen. He wants to be a starter so either someone will offer something decent that we will want to take advantage of tradewise, or they will give him the opportunity to win the job back. I think in that case whether he does or not they will want him to restructure his contract. It is hard to say how it will pan out in the long run. The situation is only more tenuous for the team because Clemens has likely given them little to be confident about.

Not me, I only care about the Jets, which is why I want him here. Once again, if someone can tell me who's out there that will be an upgrade, fine, let's upgrade. But I don't see it.

Even if he stays and Clemens wins the job, you have a backup who can step right in, a guy to mentor Clemens who is a team guy and an extra coach. That alone, plus the security blanket he'd provide, makes him worth the money given the cap space we have. QB is no place to pinch pennies. If he starts, so much the better.

I think the uncertainty is why you need to bring them both back for the good of the team. Neither guy is a sure thing, but of the two you figure one or both of them can help us win if we can block and run better.

Chad was benched for a reason. We can get somebody who can go 1-8 like Chad did this year for less money. Even Cleo Lemon won a game!

From somewhere online where they listed the 2008 free agent QB's. I would be interested in seeing Anderson based on the season he had. Other than that I don't see much in that list worth bothering with if we had the option to keep Chad even as a backup.

In the likely event that you're going to dumb this conversation down to that one stat from now until July, let me again post this:

    Pennington opponents:

    New England 16-0
    Miami 1-15
    Buffalo 7-9
    NY Giants 10-6
    Philadelphia 8-8
    Cincinnati 7-9
    Buffalo 7-9
    New England 16-0
    Tennessee 10-6

    Total 82-62 .569 5 playoff teams

    Clemens opponents:

    Baltimore 5-11
    Washington 9-7
    Pittsburgh 10-6
    Dallas 13-3
    Miami 1-15
    Cleveland 10-6
    Kansas City 4-12

    Total 52-60 .464 3 playoff teams

If we're going to isolate this season, that is. If you want to talk about career body of work, we can do that too.

That's a rigged stat. It's heavily biased in Penny's favor, because of the 2 games against the Patriots. On the flip side, it should be pointed out that Penny played 5 very winnable games against teams with a .500 record or worse. Clemens played 3. If you compare the 7 non-NE games Penny played versus the 7 games Clemens played, the opposing records are virtually identical.

    Exactly!!!
We keep on going backwards then going the right direction. I thought this shit would of changed after Parcells left. This team is so worried about hurting someone feelings then doing the right thing.

Does Chad have you on his Payroll? Are you serious or what? The only dumb part of this conversation is you defending Chad after going 1-8 and his only win being against that gimmie of a team called the Dolphins. What exactly were you watching in both Bill Games, Eagle Game, Giant Game? Did you see what happened when he had to throw? He was so bad you went missing from this board for over a month!

How is it rigged? That's who played against who and what the records were. Suddenly now it's not ok to just isolate this season and simplify it to wins and losses? Take New England out and Chad isn't 1-8 anymore, not to mention he faced them the second time already in a hole because of Clemens.

One reason I left the board was idiots like you saying the same crap over and over on top of watching the season going down the drain. You were saying all the same things last year when we were in the playoffs, so what you say now carrys no weight.

Nobody is saying Chad had a good year, but it's also pretty obvious that Clemens played worse than Chad did and even more obvious that QB was not our biggest problem in any of the games you mentioned.
