With the firing of Billick it's open season on the Ravens coaching staff, especially the defensive side of the ball. I know that Mangini is good friends with twin brother Rob Ryan (Oak DC), is the same thing true about Rex Ryan, the Ravens DC? Defensive Line coaching experience (6 years) and the last 3 years as DC of the Ravens. Yeah the Ravens had a shit record this year, but the defense has always been awesome. Hiring Ryan might also make us a favorable landing spot for DE/LB Terrell Suggs. More interesting coaching options from the Ravens include: Clarence Brooks - Def. Line Mark Carrier - Def. Backs Vic Fangio - Asst. HC - Def. Frank Gansz Jr. - Special Teams John Fassell - Asst. Special Teams coach / Offensive Coaching exp. too (son of Ex-Giant HC Jim Fassell) On the Personnel / Talent Eval. side: George Kokinis, Dir. of Pro Personnel, worked with and is close to Mangini from Cleveland Browns days. Both CT boys. This is going to be an interesting Off-Season!
Sounds good to me. He isnt afraid to play aggressive defense and improve pass rush. What shocks me is that most people thought due to Billick's contract extension he'd be around for one more year.
Exactly, I'd like to get the DL coach, and I wouldnt be surprised if Cox goes to the Fins if he gets an offer.
Didn't Brian Cox give the Dolphins fans the finger when he was a member of Dophins? I might be mistaken. That would be some homecoming.
I highly doubt Suggs hits the market anyway. He'll be franchised as the last possible option if a long-term deal isn't worked out. I can't see Newsome letting two defensive players walk to free agency in consecutive years.
Can someone please explain the Ryan love affair? I watched the last four or five Chokeland games when Rob’s name started popping up around here and thought their defense was absolutely putrid…easily arguably worse than ours. Did they shake hands with Belli or wash his underwear at some point or does having a famous daddy make you immune to normal performance standards?
^ I am aware of that but the consensus seems to be that either will do. You are looking at two coordinators who operated at similar efficiency to the scapegoat here. I know you are big on them – what gives…I’m not being a dick I just don’t see it. I think we’d be better off getting a NT than a new system.
I watched a bunch of Raiders games last season and I saw a lot of what we were doing in the second half of this season, lots of different looks based on a core of personnel not exactly in the elite level. It's all just a bunch of hope that some new blood will bring some wins with them. I agree though, no matter what, we should keep the system.
I am a much bigger fan of Rex Ryan than his brother Rob. Rex is capable of some amazing scheming, and his Defense pushed the Pats as much as anybody this year. He is the DC I want in Green next year not Sutton (Mr. I can't get a defense to play before the bye week)
The main reason Rex seems so much "better" than Rob is based on personnel. Watching Raiders game (as few as I have), Rob is just as creative as Rex, but lacked the players Rex has.
It would be nice to get Rob Ryan simply because he and Mangini have a great relationship. You need that in a coaching staff. Hopefully Lane can get his dad Monte to coach the defense so that we can have a shot at Rob Ryan.
The NFL rules prevent the Jets from hiring Kokinis unless he has final say in the football decisions. If the Jets wanted to hire Kokinis as AGM,they couldn't even though it's a promotion from his current position.Other leagues allow their FO staff to move around. The NFL has too many rules preventing an exec from leaving for a better job unless it's a final say FO position
We just need a DC who has balls and won't send lame blitz packages. Both Ryan's have that ability, its a matter of getting them here to fix the wheel, not reinvent it.
