My off season wish is for the off season to go as fast as possible. I'm so fuggin' depressed when there's no football.
I really hope we don't sign Faneca, by the time this team is in play off contention he will retire, and he's going to want A LOT of money.
I keep going back and forth on this one. There's no way in hell that Faneca helps the Jets win more than 6 games next season, and he'll be 33 the year after. On the other hand I'm petrified that the Jets will not make the line good enough next year for Clemens (or whoever is QBing) to have any chance at success. Basically I think signing Faneca is a win/lose proposition for the Jets. They'll solidify their line short-term, before the team has any real chance to compete, and they'll hurt the cap long-term at the same time. If the move allows Mangold and Ferguson to develop and lets Clemens do the same then I think the Jets kind of have to do it, even though it is a poor long-term move. I have this feeling we're headed into a 3 year period where we're just not going to be happy with the team almost regardless of what the Jets do. That's what happens when management goes out to lunch for a year in the rebuilding phase of a teams cycle. Suddenly the cracks in the armor become big holes and the solutions hurt almost as much as the problem.
You're acting like we've already signed Faneca. You've really got something against this regime don't you? You're like the only person I've ever heard this that the '07 draft was a bad one... Patience man. It's not really asking alot. It's not like seeing the Jets suck for a couple years is anything new, at least this time we've got a young, hungry coaching staff thats raised the talent level...maybe not as quick as some/most of us hope...but that problem is more yours than theirs isn't it?
lol, cracked me the f*** up!!! wow, christmas comes every day for the jets for now on. lol.... don't even know where to start with this homer (being polite) post. throw in the good fairy, tooth fairy and any other fairy you can think of. man, this board is going to be a ton of laugh's this off season!!!!!!!!!!!!
1. Pick up another O-lineman in the draft(We're thinking for the future -solidify the line) 2. pick up another O-lineman in free agency 3. If we can get anythhing for Chad take it! maybe a forth rounder if we're lucky. 4. Pick up a tall reciever in the draft round 3-or 4 , or find a vet during free agency. 5. Realese Mc carrenins. (Stucky will be back and fill this empty spot) 6. Burn the Brad smith playbook! 7. Round two in the draft get a real NT for this 3-4 stand up and mingle defense. 8. Go after a real proven Quarter back. (Hint - Mcnabb) 9. Re-sign Shotty Jr. to a Offensive incentive contract -You dont score you dont get paid(Just a joke) 10. Find a D-cordinator. 11. If its there take it ! Trade vilma for a 2nd or 3rd rounder . More defensive players.
If Baltimore is going to slap Suggs with the Franchise tag maybe we can send Vilma over there for Suggs. Vilma would be great in that defense.
Sign Starks Sign Kelly Try to bring that corner from Oak Get Dmac Draft Sweed in rd 2. Win 11 games next year.
Give me some credit for knowing ahead of time that the draft had really screwed us for this year? Most of the posters on this site thought we'd found the missing pieces to contend for a playoff spot.
I just don't see how complaining about a draft in which our first two picks are top 5 rookies actually works though. Who were we supposed to pick? The only guys picked after Harris that I really liked were Abiamiri (1 TKL), Mebane (playing very well), and Jacoby Jones (14 REC). Last years draft sucked ass, and getting two of the best players in it rather than stacking up depth and practice squad fodder has done nothing to hurt this franchise. The logic is terrible...you want to pile up players but what good is piling up if they aren't worthy of being NFL starters in the future?
Joe Staley is starting at RT for the 49ers. Justin Blalock at LG for the Falcons. Aaron Sears at LG for the Buccaneers. Tony Ugoh is at LT for the Colts. Ben Grubbs is sitting behind Chris Chester, who has turned into one of the better RGs with the Ravens. All of these guys were easily available to the Jets and worth a hell of lot more than a CB at the moment, regardless of how good he is or will be in the future. You win games in the trenches not in the defensive backfield. Two of them could easily have wound up on the Jets instead of Revis. You get Joe Staley and Aaron Sears with those two picks and there's no problem on the Jets line for 5 years. Revis is no way no how as valuable as that opportunity. Then you grab Harris at the cost of two more players on the line of scrimmage and you have basically turned the Jets into a bad team while you are picking up two good players. Competence in the NFL is determined at the line of scrimmage. Everybody else is an after thought if the trenches are not well-manned. 3-11 was no accident. It was arrogance and stupidity and incompetence.
None of those lineman with the exception of Ugoh have proven anything. And we weren't going to draft him to play RT thats not his position. I wanted Blalock as much as any one but I watched two of his games and he reminded me of Clarke. You also can't take offensive lineman in the first round year after year. You have to get guys in the mid rounds who are cheap. The one guy I wanted was Marshal Yanda. He's starting for the Ravens at RT. the bottom line is that Revis and Harris are two of the best players in that draft and we will build the core of the team around them for the next 5 to 7 years. The Jets should have been more proactive in free agency to get another lineman. The last two Jets drafts were as good as almost any in the history of the organization. You can't rebuild in 2 seasons it takes time to turn over a roster. Yes they made a mistake letting Clarke play but it's over with now and lets see what they do to rectify the situation going forward. Mangini like any first time head coach is learning on the job. As much as he has done some stupid things (what coach hasn't) there are few coaches I would take over him going forward. I want to see what he can do as a coach when he has good lines on both sides of the ball.
Sorry, but the fact is if you think a guy is a shut down corner, you go out and get him. A shut down corner is as rare as it gets, and you don't pass one up if you think he's going to be a great one. Revis has done nothing to disappoint there. Not only that, but all those guys were pick before our Harris pick. All of them. Staley is a future LT too, we already have our own LT. Seems a little tough to pick guys who were already picked. The other other O or D-line player that people even liked was Brandon Mebane as a NT...he's playing in a 4-3 next to Tubbs and Kerney right now. After that theres no one that really blew me away that we HAD to have in last years draft after the Harris pick.
I'd sign on that. Cross and Bradway are the two lingering failures in the Jets current power structure.
3-11. There's no reason to go through that kind of season to pick up a shutdown corner. Aaron Glenn was a shutdown corner also and it took the Jets 5 seasons and a regime change to make the playoffs after drafting him. James Hasty was a shut down corner and he was long gone from the Jets before they made the playoffs again. Shutdown corners are over-rated.
That is probably the dumbest thing I have ever read. Do you watch football? If we lined Drew Coleman and Barrett up at corner for the entire season, I think we'd be in the same boat as the Dolphins. Corner is the hardest position to play in football. Darrelle Revis is, in my opinion, the best player on our team besides Mangold and Harris. Revis help his own on most wideouts WITHOUT a pass rush. Imagine how good he'll be when someone actually gets after the QB. It's going to take a while for this team to be a force again, but at least we have some good building blocks.
