1. Signings OL - Stacy Andrews: A OT/OG who the Jets looked at this past off-season as a restricted free agent. I fully expect him to be on the Jets next year as most likely a RT, but could also be a LG. He is a great run-blocker and still very young. NT - Ethan Kelley: We know about him. DE/LB Travis Laboy: Another staple in my off-seasons. Already has 5 sacks and 3 FF this year with only 9 tackles. Wow! 6-3, 260 lbs. on the Titans. A very good pass rusher who I think could strive in this type of 3-4 defense. He should challenge Bryan Thomas for a starting job. DE - Tommy Kelly: The second Kelly of the off-season, just spelled differently. At 6-6, 300 lbs, he is the perfect size for a 3-4 DE. I think he is the best true 3-4 DE coming out, and played there previously with the Raiders. Is only 26, but coming off a season-ending injury is risky, but it also means he will come cheaper than he normally would. Is a true 3-4 DE so I think he will look for teams who play the 3-4 and wouldn't want to sign with someone who is going to use him as DT in the 4-3, as the Raiders did this year. A great run-stopper, perfect for this defense and will make our DE rotation great as well as free us up to look at other positions in the draft early on. CB - Randall Gay: Another guy we looked at last year as a RFA. He is 26 and has some potential as a solid #2 CB for the future. It is likely we bring him in considering the interest we showed last off-season. A cheap signing who will pay off and be much more solid than whomever we have starting from week-to-week this season at the same position. QB - Josh McCown: Someone who has started in the past, and who can come in if Clemens fails. With Russell and Walter and possibly Culpepper in Oakland, McCown will probably not be around next year. Would be a great backup to Clemens, and is a similar quarterback to him, or atleast more so than Pennington is. 2(a). Trades Trade Jonathon Vilma to Washington Redskins for their 2nd Round Pick (thinking of around #18 in second round) Trade Chad Pennington to the Minnesota Vikings for their 4th Round Pick (predicting #20 in fourth round) 5. Draft 1(4) - OLB | Vernon Gholston | Ohio State (6-5, 265, 4.60) We desperatley need someone to rush the QB. Gholston is a freak of nature athletically and would fit in perfectly in a 3-4. I would love to get McFadden but we have to focus on other needs first. Gholston is the right pick here I believe 2(4) - WR | Adarius Bowman | Oklahoma State (6-4, 215, 4.50) It is a 3 WR league now, and we only have two. Brad Smith has shown flashes but has also shown that he cannot be a #3 WR in the near future. Coles has been rumored that he may retire early, so might as well get a great replacement now. Bowman could be a first rounder many years, but if a few of the junior WR come out this year Bowman could slip. We do not have a tall WR like Bowman so I think he will be a wonderful change of pace. 2(18) - OG | Roy Schuening | Oregon State (6-4, 320, 5.20) He has definitely broken away from the pack and become the best OG in this draft. We need a young OG as Clarke hasn't panned out. Schuening can fit in right next to D'Brickashaw and Mangold for many, many years to come. He is also a big kid and a strong run-blocker. We would improve tremendously there with Schuening and Andrews. Perfect fit, I think. 3(4) - ILB | Ben Moffitt | South Florida (6-2, 245, 4.70) A physical linebacker and a team leader. We need someone to play alongside Harris and Moffitt I think fits very well. He knows how to tackle and has great size for the position. We could also go with Beau Bell or perhaps J Leman here, or even a CB, but I think Moffitt is the best fit, and best of all, A MANGINI GUY! 4(4) - CB | Dwight Lowery | San Jose State (6-1, 185, 4.45) A great athlete and interception machine (9 last year, 4 this year) but comes from a small WAC school and is unproven. I think a CB might be adressed earlier but CBs are one of the easiest positions to develop and we have much more pressing needs than CB. Competing for the #3 spot will be Lowery and Miller for the future. It should be a good battle and I like having Gay, Miller and Lowery for the future at the #2 and #3 spots, along with obviously Revis. 4(20) - FB | Peyton Hillis | Arkansas (6-2, 240, 4.80) With all the talk of Owen Schmitt why isn't anybody mentioning Hillis. He is an all-around amazing FB and better than Schmitt. He has blocked for McFadden and Felix Jones throughout his college career, while still gaining 330 yards on the ground for a 5.7 AVG and catching 44 passes this year. An amazing FB who I would love love love to have on this team. Would add another dimension to our offense, something many FBs don't do. 5(4) - QB | Josh Johnson | San Diego (6-3, 195, 4.65) Look up his stats. 'Nuff said. 6(4) - S | Joe Fields | Syracuse (6-1, 210, 4.45) A good athletic safety who had 4 interceptions last year. Should be a solid backup in the NFL and a good special teams player. With his size and athleticism, we could possibly catch lightning in a bottle. 7(4) - ATH | Brian Witherspoon | Stillman (5-10, 175, 4.25) An amazing athlete who could turn out to be the next great KR/PR. He is a CB but with somebody this athletic and speedy we could use him in many different ways. Moffit would be as bad as the Schlegel pick in the 3rd IMO. I'd rather get Leman or better yet....Ezra Butler.
Some thoughts..... Stacy Andrews: Is a typical Mangini player on the field...Versatility. I think we go after him hard this off-season. Travis Laboy: His season could be a product of how terrific Haynesworth has been. With Haynesworth getting double teamed every play, Laboy is reaping the rewards. Not sure I'd go this way.. I like Tommy Kelly and if we can possibly get Ryan as our D coordinator next year, I think we have a great shot at getting him. I think you are right on with your first 2 2nd round picks, but I do not see the trade happening with the Redskins. I would take either player at that spot and the kid from Oregon might be better value. A stud in the making.... The Moffitt pick is where you lose me. NO WAY...He plays smaller and slower than his size and stats. He will get eaten up in the pros. + isn't he like 28 already.(Seriously!) .....and say bye-bye to Vitor Hobson. He can not work off a block as an OLB. Some think he is going to move inside and excell while having to work off guards all game...I think not..
Not trying to sound like I want to dry hump you, but I do love your mocks. The detail is outstanding. People can debate you on a couple of picks, but I think you have a good overall picture of how to address needs in free agency & the draft. I think LaBoy is having a solid 2nd half season, it seems his price tag might be a little higher than we want for a guy backing up someone. Especially if we draft Gholston. I agree, its time to move Hobson inside to see if he can play there. This subject has been debated in the threads & it seems like we need to put him in there for a couple of games to find out. ILB is not like QB, you can pretty much tell after 2 games if a guy is good, average or bad. I would love to get J. Lehman -- saw this guy make every tackle for Illinois in that Ohio State game -- he would have more value as a 2nd rounder than Laurinitis as a 1st. Not sure I agree w/a previous poster who said thats a ton of money to spend in the offseason --- who is gonna cost a lot? I know Rhodes contract will be pretty pricey, but besides that I really dont see anyone running up the tab on our cap.
There is no way in hell the Redskins give us a 2nd rounder for Vilma, they have London Fletcher who is having a monster year and should have made the pro bowl.

I'm not sold on your free agency or your draft. Your first three draft picks are good but and I'd be happy if it went that way, but first things first. We're picked at number 3 presently, not four. With the Fins and Rams ahead of us and projected to take Dorsey and J. Long respectively, McFadden will still be on the board. We don't pass on him. If we went for our second pick with Bowman and our third with Schuening, that would be an insane first day. Ideally, we should take care of our defensive woes with free agency which would give us the opportunity to go this route on day 1. Imagine our offense with McFadden in the backfield and a huge target like Bowman.
Actually Miami, Rams and Atlanta are ahead of us so we are 4. And McFadden may still be available, but for a team as bad as us I don't think we should spend a high pick on a RB when we have two very solid ones already. It was a hard decision but I think it is necessary we spend the pick on need. And also we cannot take care of our defensive woes in FA unless we somehow sign Suggs or Dansby, which is highly unlikely.

No team is going to give a high draft pick for him so I cant see us trading him because of his contract. Unless we release him, which would be a waste of talent, then he will most likely be riding the bench for us. - the third leading tackler on our team (only behind the two rookies) and most consistent defensive lineman on our team this year, he is horrible.
that isnt a very good draft. if were going to sign a NT and OL, then why wouldnt we take a guy like Mcfadden with the 3rd pick and use one of the 2nd round picks to get a linebacker? You cant pass up talent like Mcfadden has to gamble on a linebacker with the 3rd pick.
No, Moffitt is 23. And I said I could go with either Beau Bell or J Leman, but I like Moffitt and watching one of his games on ESPN I was impressed. I haven't seen any others so I don't know, maybe Leman is the correct pick, I could go either way. Also, who is this kid from Oregon? Dennis Dixon?
Warhound is correct. We presently have the third pick based on the Stength of schedule tiebreaker when you take into account the records of the last 2 opponents on each of the team's schedule. We are three games behind the Rams (currently picking #2) in the SOS tiebreaker, and three games ahead of the Falcons for third. You may want to rethink the name of your thread. First of all to self proclaim your ideas to be perfect & realistic is a bit laughable and sad. Especially when you are incorrect about our draft position, have us signing 4 starters in free agency, etc. A little humility goes a long way, especially when you are wrong

Looking at it again, I guess taking Ben Moffitt in round 3 is the good value pick because a) J. Lehman/Ezra Butler/Beau Bell will all be gone in round 2 and b) we really really need to use that 2nd pick on a guard.
