It's avery similiar situation to when he joined the Jet's. Miami has multiple needs and there is no clear cut #1 pick. Even though there in the same division, I expect the Jet's to get a call. Parcell's likes to trade with people he knows. Look for Charlie Casserly to be his GM.
Trading the first overall pick isn't that easy. The only team I could see trading for that pick is Dallas to get McFadden and they would have to give both of their first rounders this year, and probably next years. Not sure if I see them doing that but if anyone can afford to, it's Dallas.
You expect to see Parcells trade the #1 overall pick to a team within his own division to potentially move down no more than 2-3 spots in the draft? Sorry, I don't see that.
He's not going to trade it to us, but I could definitely see him trading down and stockpiling picks, ending up with 4+ 1st/2nd round picks.... The guy knows how to build a good team
Bahh i had some pipe dream that somehow parcells and curtis martin would be owning the jets one day. The i woke up to woody johnson's ugly mug
 but there's at least one poster who keeps insisting that it was groh, not tuna, who ran the jets 2000 draft. but here's what coles said, from the daily news: WR Laveranues Coles was very entertaining in the locker room, regaling us with stories about Bill Parcells, who is on the verge of becoming the Falcons? vice president. Coles credits Parcells as the person who drafted him in 2000, when Parcells was Jets? GM for Al Groh. Coles, never a Groh fan, said Groh once told him that he never would?ve drafted him it if were up to him. Coles has proven a lot of people wrong over the years so much for junc theories.
Its tough to trade down in the NFL draft because not many teams will be wanting to trade up HOWEVER... I can see Miami and Parcells dealing with Dallas to get their 2 1st rounders along with 2-3 more picks as theres a connection with Bill and DAL and Jerry Jones is in love with McFadden.
Although I didn't dislike Groh as a coach, I give Parcells 99.9% of the credit for that draft, and for the relative success we had as a franchise from 1997 through 2004... I'm very worried he'll do the same with Miami
The problem here is that Fat Boy will probably bring a ring to Miami. You know, something he didn't do here? I guess I'll just have to lose control of my car while he's walking all alone in a dark alley. Sigh. Why is it always up to me?
Parcells is not taking Miami to a Super Bowl, not even as coach. But he will make them competitive again in a very short period of time. As Jets fans we're just screwed to death by this move because it marginalizes the Jets at a very bad time for that to happen. Mangini is going to be gone after next season, 2009 at the latest, and we'll be starting over again as the doormat of the AFC East. I've been a Jets fan for a long time and I know exactly how this is going to play out for us.
Oh! I get it. We'll reverse psychology the fates into saving the Jets? Sounds like the most workable plan at the moment.
Does a team with so many holes (More then us if you can believe it) Give up The first pick ; if not to pick up more then one pick in that same draft. They can pretty much take who they want not feeling out the pecking order. Parcells actually built Dallas up something that I think He didn't do with the Jets or the Patriots. His big pushes were teams stocked with his kind of players (Loyal Vets with a year or two in the tank). The dolphins are either heading toward a Major re-build or the same Resentment that some Jets fans have for Bill. Remember he always uses the 3-4 year plan then he's gone. I say they get a Quarter back or The running back (Mcfadden).
Well if he trades the pick he will need a willing partner. I think more teams are beginning to realize that the financial pitfalls of the top 2-3 picks are tremendous in this salary cap era. I do not think he is going to find a bevy of teams willing to give up their draft this year. It is shit loads easier to have picks 5-15 and move down. That way if a team is interested in moving up it is not going to cost them a veritable arm and leg both financially and pick wise. My .02.
Parcells will never take McFadden. He does not believe in first round running backs. Also, I don't think Parcells will have much of an impact in Miami especially short term. There is just too much to do on the Dolphins.
Guy's, we are screwed. The Jets better be good next year, because that's all the chance we have until he has the Fins be competitve again.
Don't worry, Tom Brady will be crushed by a herd of stampeding buffalo this offseason and we'll win the division by 4 games in 2008.
Wait... is Parcells joining the Falcons or Dolphins? Some of you are talking like he's going to the Fins. EDIT: Never mind, just saw the other topic.
