Hope, nothing more. If Clemens is the stater next year, all we can hope for is another top 5 pick. IMHO
Kellen Clemens wasn't ready for the Pats or for any NFL team eiher. The kid has a bad case of the yips and that was apparent yesterday on his 1st throw. Yes Seymour was coming but throwing blindly out in to the flat on your back foot from your own endzone will get you benched as it did yesterday. I'm not down on him yet but he's not ready to take the reins to lead this team.Chad has the smarts to overcome the OL's bad play. Playing Clemens now that he's hurt will only assure you of a top 3 draft pick.If that's the plan then start him this Sunday and watch Clemens throw 3 int's and another loss.
That's the misconception. He is not by any stretch a rookie. He has almost two full years under his belt and if you think he takes the practice week off you're wrong. I keep coming back to the same thing. He was demoted in his rookie year from 2nd to 3rd string. That is a really bad omen. He was kept out this year for weeks when everybody thought he should have been playing. There was a reason Mangini didn't want to play him and I think it's because he isn't bright enough to play QB at this level.
Clemens has consistently stood in there while getting killed time and again. Do you have anything to back up the ridiculous one-liner BS you have spewed all over this thread, or do you just like to keep repeating the same nonsense over and over until you believe it, bereft on any facts getting the way? Here's a fact for you (lifted from another thread, thanks hiker): Why we shouldn't be so hard on Kellen: In 13 starts: Derek Anderson...12 sacks Drew Brees...12 sacks Brett Favre...14 sacks Peyton Manning...17 sacks Tom Brady...17 sacks Tony Romo...19 sacks Kellen Clemens (in 6 starts)...24 sacks! Holy shit, that's worse than awful! Its a miracle this is his first real injury today. ...and for the record, why does such a die-hard met-lover/yankee-hater have one of the most popular yankees ever in his sig?
holy crap we get it, you want to caress penningtons manhood and you hate Clemens. No need to post it 3000000000 times.
I really don't understand why a lot of people are down on Clemens. He arguably plays behind one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL. What did everyone expect? He, like any other QB, needs a line in order to succeed. I only hope the Penny doesn't sustain an injury in the last 2 games. If that happens, nobody will ever trade for him, and at some point in the future, will be a cap casualty. I actually think it makes the most sense to let Brad Smith or Tui finish out the season.
Willie is a Met now. I know what I watch as a fan, I don't pretend to be Jaws or whatever ESPN analysts. I just sit and watch every Jet game, and I have an opinion on what I see. I see nothing with Clemens that gives me any hope for his future.
It's impossible to make a point out of sacks. Some of it may have been because of the play of their respective OLs and some of it may have been that they knew when to get rid of the ball. It is impossible to say which was the most contribution factor.
He does not have "two full years" under his belt. He has the snaps he's gotten since he's been the starter this year. Did you watch Chad's post-game press conference yesterday? He used the fact that he gets no snaps in practice as half an excuse for yesterday. Clemens got zero practice before becoming a starter. How do you figure he was demoted from second to third string? He was a rookie. He was also not drafted to be the immediate replacement for the then-starter. He was made the third stringer because he had zero NFL experience, and was getting zero snaps in practice. Therefore, if for some reason, the starting QB (Mr. Glass himself,) went down, he wouldn't be first in line to be thrown to the wolves. It's got nothing to do with how "bright" he is. By all accounts, he's actually a very smart QB. If not for his broken leg as a senior, he would have been ranked higher on many of the pro's draft boards than Leinart and Young, especially Hodge's and Jaworski's.
Two years under his belt...but only started 6 games. He was a rookie with two vets in front of him...I don't see it as a bad omen. I understand you're not happy with him...thats fine. I'm not willing to give up on him on six starts. Yes he's made some questionable decisions but he's learning on the job. I'm sure alot of these things can be corrected. Maybe a playbook designed around his talents. Playcalling hasn't been the best either, also players dropping passes doesn't help. Write him off if you want.
Yeah, it figures.. As much as I wanted that to happen with Brady, it happen to us on the first drive. The luck of the Jets.
I remember when Penny finally came in for Vinny. He looked like he knew what he was doing right from the start. Poise and confidence even in that loss to Jacksonville in 02 in his first action as QB. Up to that point, in 2002, that Jets team didn't look any better then this one. I just don't see the same progress from Clemens and i think it may cost him a starting spot.
Just one question....who do you think the Jets should get so you can have hope for the future? I'm not trying to start a flame war or anything. Draft one? Trade for one?
How do I figure he was demoted? Because he was demoted. He almost won the job out of camp in his rookie year. He was the backup for the first 10 or 11 weeks and then he was made 3rd string. Glorify it any way you want the facts speak for themselves. It's ridiculous to say he gets no snaps in practice. He may not have gotten them with the first team but so what? What do you think these guys do during the week, sleep in the locker room while practice is taking place?
Its true...Penny came in and looked good. However you don't think the talent level around him was better than what Clemens has to work with. If you watched some games this year....we were a couple of dropped passes from winning most of these games this year.
It has nothing to do with luck and everything to do with having a garbage offensive line which has done absolutely nothing this year. No running game at all; unless it's Miami. Penny gets injured earlier in the season and now they let Clemens get pile driven into the ground on the second play from scrimmage! This is by far the worst offensive line I think the Jets have ever had. Mangold and Ferguson are keepers and possibly Bender, but after that we need to re-tool in a big way.
Links? Its a well known fact that 3rd strings don't see as many reps or even the same playbook as the starters do. It happens to every team in the league. Just like Alio said he's was a rookie, and the plan was for him to sit and watch how the vets prepare. For all we know the reason he was "demoted" was for money reason's....Ramsey was probably getting paid more.
It's not impossible to make a point when the point is that Kellen is not so fragile as Shadetree stated IN THE POST I quoted prior to my post. That's the point...on top of his man-love for chad and his man-holing Kellen.
I actually think that in prior games Kellen avoided some tackles that would have dropped others. He has strength. He was just an unfortune victim of our offensive line and a big guy coming free and pancaking him. Unless we have RoboCop as our QB, we will continue to see the same this year.
