I just feel we have a chance next year to make a playoff run.

Agree with thread starter. Both the O-line and D-line have been inconsistent but they have shown much progress. Adding one upgrade through the draft or free agency on each side would help tremendously. The Jets have been competitive in almost every game this season. If we start off with a few wins next season, I think our team will be motivated and we'll make the playoffs.

Not to mention, it seems we make the playoffs every other year.

They O and D lines have been up and down all season which suggests to me either bad players or coaching , maybe both. I don't want us to get a couple of players and squeek into the POs , I want to genuinley contend , we are way off from that

We need a celebrity QB who can "date" hot women.

Hell, it's done wonders for the Cowboys and Bucs.

    Jeff Garcia?

By "hot women" do you mean "men?"

To be honest, I got worried when Pennington came in. He always plays us tough.

Really? All I know about Garcia is that TO said he was gay. Good for him.

And I haven't stopped laughing at the picture of the cat who can't get his food.

If we can sign a lineman(s) like Justin Smiley, draft dline and oline in the draft and maybe get mcfadden in the first round we should be in the playoff hunt next year.

The home schedule in 08 only has 1 team with winning record and thats new england.

The away schedule has dates at San Fran, Oakland, Miami, buffalo and either tenn or houston.

Seeing the Jets play today you can see that they play hard for coach Mangini and he obvioulsy hasn't lost the team. That is a huge feat given their record. Not with that said Mangini has to make some changes to the coaching staff and we need to add a lot of pieces of both sides of the ball. More so on offense, but the defense has some obvious holes also. Heres my list of things the Jets need to do in the offseason to head in the right direction to be a Super Bowl contender someday with Mangini...

    1. Draft a Franchise QB- Say what you want about other aspects of the team but this is what the Jets have lacked since Namath. They need their own Manning, Brady, or Favre to build around. We will obviously have a top 5 pick and we need to go get Brohm, whatever it takes. If we have to move up we can deal Vilma with Harris playing so well. Seeing Clemens play, there are no signs he will be a starting QB in the league. I know he was a 2nd Round pick but the Jets have to bite the bullet and admit it was a mistake and remedy it by taking Brohm. Nobody will be second guessing the move.

    2. Draft a Defensive End- The Jets have absolutely no pass rush. The only time they get after the QB is when they bring the house. Ellis is finished and we have nobody else to rush the QB. Having someone who can sack the QB without blitzing obviously helps out other areas of the defense. Now with that said they cant draft a DE in the 1st Round...especially in the top 5. There are rumors they like Howie Longs son who plays in Virginia. Big mistake if they draft him instead of a QB. They can get a quality pass rusher in the 2nd round.

    3. RG/RT- Since giving away Kendall, the Jets right side has been horrendous. They cant run block or pass protect. They can fill these voids either in Free Agency or in the draft.

    4. DT- Jets fans know what a disaster Dwayne Robertson has been know and we all cant wait for him to exit left. He is vastly undersized and it shows in how our run defense has been over the years. We need a huge, athletic tackle to battle in the trenches. Again we can fill this through the draft or free agency.

    5. RB- Now I know we have Thomas Jones for only one season but we have to honestly decide if he is going to be the long term answer in New York. he will be 30 soon enough and that is the beginning of the end for RBs. I know the Jets were extremely interested in Michael Turner and he will be an unrestricted free agent. Tough call but since the Jets gave up next to nothing to get Jones they need to go get Turner and let him take charge of the offense with a new QB and they will grow together. Turner will be a top 10 back when given the chance.

    6. WR- Cotchery is a great WR but he is no #1. Coles has been a warrrior for the Jets but he has been banged up this season and he is getting up there in age. They need to bring in a playmaker at WR desperately.

    7. Coaches- Schottenheimer and Sutton are extremely suspect as offensive and defensive coordinators. Schottenheimer has been very conservative since day one. Most Jets fans thought it was because of Pennington but since Clemens took over its the same story. Some of his decisions have been god awful and he needs to re-evalute what he is trying to do on offense. I am not saying he needs to go, but Mangini needs to seriously review the offense with him and overhaul it. As far as Sutton goes, he needs to go. I think for the most part, Mangini has already taken charge of the defense since the bye week and Sutton is only DC but name only. Rumors are Monte Kiffin will be joining his son in Oakland paving the way for Ryan to come to the Jets. Remember Ryan was rumored to be the Jets DC before Mangini named Sutton. Ryan would be a huge sigining for the defense.

    Faulty logic here...

You don't just draft a guy and name him the franchise QB. You need to put him behind a team.

Roethlisberger began his career behind a dominant running game, a good O-line, established weapons (Burress and Ward) at WR, and a good D.

Palmer began his career with a dominant pass blocking O-line, two top 15 WRs, and a solid running game.

Brady had excellent coaching, a dominant D, a good O-line, and a solid running game.

Romo wasn't even starting until he was 27...behind a good running game, a solid O-line (that they went out and improved), and an elite WR and TE.

Brees suddenly blew up with a stud TE, a good young OL, the games best RB, and an improving D behind him.

John Elway's six best seasons came when the Broncos began to emphasize O-line play and build a running game.

Terry Bradshaw had a dominant D, a couple HOF WRs, a kickass O-line, and a HOF RB behind him.

Troy Aikman got pummeled as a rookie so the Cowboys built the best O-line of the 90's.

A good, young QB will play well if the offensive unit is solid around him. You can't just throw a kid out there and say "hey, you're the future go change the franchise and win us a Super Bowl." It's just not how you build a franchise.

Why waste our high first on a QB when we have much larger needs that actually would improve any QBs play anyway? It's not like Brady, Romo, or Favre were highly touted first round QBs...those were guys who were coached well and had solid franchises around them that allowed them to use their many skills to succeed.

Well said. The fact that this team has stuck together through a 3-11 year shows a lot about the HC and the character of players on this team.

Also agree with you on most our needs except runningback. I think jones and Leon easily fill that position and if we improve the line they will improve also.

Kendall was a LG here so although it's true the rights side has struggled so has the left.

I do not like what I have seen from Kellen so far and I was not a big fan of his after seeing him in Oregon. That said I'm not in love with Brohm either and although I do think we need a QB I would understand if we go after a pass rusher with our first pick. We can improve the team around the QB before we bring one in no need to reach unless we really love a guy.

This is an excellent assessment of where we are and going, and I agree wholeheartedly with the position breakdowns, I agree Sutton must go and would give the world for Ryan...... what I don't understand is the difference between last years offensive play calling and this years. Last year it was wide open and even though we had a running back by committee we mixed things up quite a bit, we weren't but we moved the ball into the end zone, HELL, there was the possible hiring of Shotty as a H C in the off season..... that being said why the change to conservatism, and poor play calling this year, what changed?

BTW relax with putting Romo up there yet. He still needs some more time.

I know we have some holes to fill such as O-Line, D-Line and Maybe another WR or CB... But I can bet one thing...

We can find OLineman and DLineman in the 2nd, 3rd or even the 4th round... Sometimes in the 6th and 7th... Also in FA,

But we will never find another RB like D.McFadden at anything past the 5th pick in the 1st round.

D.McFadden is 10 times better than M.Lynch, R.Bush, M.Jones-Drew, Cadiliac Williams, R.Brown, W.Parker... I'm telling you... This kid is on the same playing field as A.Peterson. If we go out and draft D.McFadden we will have the next best thing as far as a young RB goes to build an offense around. This kid can run with SPEED, Quickness, agility, he has some of the best field vision that I have ever seen and the man can break tackles and catch out of the backfiel...

2 years ago we were at #4 and we went O-Line with Ferguson... Smart pick. This year it's our turn to draft a Playmaker to make plays for years to come for this Offense. If we really wanna improve the O-Line we go after A.Faneca... If we really wanna improve the Defense we go after Suggs or Samuels... If we wanna improve this Offesne, we go after McFadden.

Right now we would be at #4

Miami needs a QB alot more than a RB
    ATL also needs a QB
    Rams already have S.Jackson
    Jets... McFadden

Also... We may be picking at 2 or 3 because Rams and Falcons both play Arizona who has improved... But they are still Arizona

I agree McFadden is going to be special however we need to seriously look at Clemens and make a decision if he is going to be the QB of the future. I know it takes time for QBs to come in their own but we cant afford to throw away another season with him if he is a bust. Maybe if we draft McFadden #4 and then trade Vilma for a pick and draft a QB like Ryan? Just as long as we dont draft a OL or DE in the 1st Round.
