And that's the problem. This report is solely the result of testimony by two people facing jail. It is a blatant joke yet it will be accepted as the definitive report on the problem with drugs and baseball.
Ho Hum....Besides gossip, and mislaced feelings of betrayal, does anyone really care? If its 3 guys (Bonds, McGuire,Clemens) thats one thing.. But this looks to be an equal opportunity occasion.... At the end of the day, what you really have here is men making a calculated choice to pursue a given avocation, using whatever means are available to them, in order to succeed. And don't start about tainted records...Unless you are going to clearly come out against any rule changes that tilt an advatage one way or the other... (raising the mound, for instance...) This will be forgotten by pitchers and catchers, and hopefully by then Barry Bonds will adopt a hispanic surname, and Omar Minaya will give him 15 mil a year to play first base.
Because ESPN, is in general, retarded. The real reason so many Mets and Yankees are mentioned are because of the two guys who worked for them. Noone is saying primarily Mets and Yanks used steroids--he's just who cooperated with him. Why some Yankee fans are so up in arms over this is beyond me.
What reasonable proof is there of any of these players using? Manny, Ortiz, Papelbon, Beckett, Varitek, Youkilis, Schilling, Pedroia, Matsuzaka, and Wakefield. None of them have been implicated ever (outside of Varitek being on some made up nonsense list earlier today). None of them had a spike in performance, none have changed dramatically. I already said that I think some Sox players, including past stars, used. Guys like Garciaparra, Vaughn, Nixon, Kapler etc. I just don't see any of the current guys as either obvious users or linked to using.
You keep saying he was "coerced" into revealing what he knew. "Tell us what you know and we will reduce your sentence" is hardly coercion (not that any of us were there.) And it's not like these guys were just throwing out names that they read in the paper. The testimony is often very specific. There is a lot of evidence that these guys are telling the truth. And if they're making shit up, why Clemens and Pettite? Would it somehow validate the story to include them? I got it. They were told "name Clemens and Pettite and we'll reduce your sentence even further." Why not Vladdy? Why not Johan? Why not anybody else? Must be some widespread anti-Yankee conspiracy.
Here's the problem I think Mitchell will have... he does have some proof on some players... but it seems on allot he has nothing more than someone telling him they know or saw something... well in the real world, which is what this report brings all this into, when you make a public accusation with out proof it's libel & slander.... I'm sure they'll be some lawsuits over this...

Yeah, I know. I already said I think I've been misdirecting my anger. It still bothers me that an employee of a MLB club was doing the investigation (regardless of the organization, it's a conflict of interest), just like it bothers me that an owner is the commissioner of the sport. But as I said, I've been misdirecting my anger. I should be taking it out on these so-called stars for their use of this shit. Even worse, we can be pretty certain this is just the tip of the iceberg. It's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
Here's the thing though--the guy who told him, told him about tons of other guys who there was CONCRETE evidence on. Why tell the truth on so many guys, and then make some up? Or omit some? I really think that the whole Yankee-Red Sox thing is IRRELEVANT in this conversation, and its rather pathetic that it has become the centerpiece of the report to some people here.
