Because the Twins want two major leaguers in any deal and the MEts aren't offering even one. So without that it will take their entire farm system.

What minor leaguers were the Yankees and Sox offering? Melky and Crisp? Ryan Church is as good as those two.

    Anyway...

I'd definitely say no to the 2nd one, but I'd be tempted to do the first one if it's Joe Smith instead of Guerra or Heilman instead of Pelfrey. I'd probably have to pull the trigger if absolutely necessary though because with Maine + Ollie + Johan the need for starters wouldn't be too great. The second one is WAY too much IMO. Personally, I think the Twins might be using the Red Sox to try to get the Mets to bite.

Trading our entire farm system would be bad even if Santana is great

If it wasn't for the disastrous Milledge trade I'd sign on for either of these packages in a second. Mets look really stupid right about now.

That's the problem without Milledge these deals leave us with absolutely no hope in our farm for at least 3 years.

Do you mean major leaguers? Yeah, the Yankees were offering Hughes and Cabrera and nobody anybody has offered them yet is as good as Hughes.

Yes I meant major leaguers. And Hughes is the best prospect anyone's offering but the other packages have much more depth.

empty the farm system, I dont care, just do whatever you have to to get Santana. I would give up either of those packages that have been mentioned.

The thing about those offers is, it seems like quantity over quality to me. besides the OFs, I think it's pretty weak. Pelfrey and Humber look bad, and the rest aren't proven. So Omar should ok it.

I don't want to give up both Gomez or Martinez, otherwise I pull the trigger instantly. It's Johan F. Santana (that's F for fucking) on the Mets. Johan Santana. On the Mets. Starting. THE Johan Santana.

Agreed, I would pretty much do any trade not including Martinez or Guerra.

And that's the problem and why he is still a Twin. He is the best pitcher in baseball and nobody wants to give up what it takes to get him. Not Boston and neither of the NY teams. The problem isn't just the players but like I said before, it's the players AND 150 million dollars. What if he blows out his arm in his first start?

I see the price coming down a little as spring training approaches.

Melky may be 23 but he's never OPS'd over the mid .700's at any level where he's had more then 100something AB's. Church is a much better hitter then Melky and it isn't even close.

Melky wasn't even a prospect 2 years ago, just because the Yankees stuck him in the OF for a couple seasons because they didn't have any better options doesn't change that. He showed no improvement from last year to this year(in fact he actually regressed a little). He's got 1000 ML AB's the guy is what he is, a low .700 OPS guy. That's a 4th outfielder.

chien ming wang and robinson cano werent prospects 2 years ago either. and his defense makes up for his offense. not a fourth outfielder, he could even be a #2 on some national league teams.
