If Chad comes in because of the bad play of Clemens then the score will already be out of sight; like 44 to 3. This we week we do or die with Clemens and or undernurished offensive and defensive lines.
I have to agree, this would be more likely. If Clemens came out and threw 3-4 picks early in the game. Do you leave him in there to twist in the wind, or pull him out and keep him from getting beat down too badly?
This is some funny stuff Food. Damon Huard is starting in the NFL as was Cleo Lemon. The fact that their are terrible starting QB playing for bad teams is more of a reflection of the over expansion of pro sports in general. John Fox is very likely to be fired this year with Vinny as his starting QB.
Jesus, is it my imagination or are some of these threads and posts this morning some of the most bizarre things we've read all season?
I felt compelled to say something about that because I had just said I don't think Mangini would do it. I do think he'd be more likely to give Clemens a quicker hook for the reasons you guys stated above. If it's apparent early that Clemens can't move the team against the Pats, why subject him to another national humiliation like in Dallas? Two national humiliations in your first seven starts isn't the way to go. Plus, you bring Chad in with no pressure on him and cross them up, who knows? He moved against them in Week 1 even after he got hurt, we just couldn't get the offense back on the field and then someone fumbled when we finally did.
Winston, I get the point here, I just don't agree. I sat there and watched him make a number of mistakes that were not related to the offensive line or the receivers ability to get open. I'm not terribly impressed with him. He holds the ball too long, he overthrew way too many balls, and that pass to Wallace Wright was, to put it mildly, a wounded duck. I think he gets nervous and tries to aim a bit much, which accounts for all his "spike" passes that he seems to make every single week. These are issues that he's going to have to figure out, and I think the best place to do that is on the field. There were a lot of positives, but the negatives are glaring and some of them are very worrisome. If anything he was very streaky. -X-
This baffles me. You of all people wanted Chad benched and now you want Chad to start because with this team it might stunt Clemens' growth. Maybe Mangini knew he wasn't ready and that's why he kept starting Chad. I personally still doubt Clemens is the QB of the future, but I don't think we should bench him now. He needs to get his reps in and stop making stupid mistakes (ones that he is doing all by himself). The more plays he's in might help him gain some pocket presence.
Exactly. Like staring down your receiver, not properly setting your feet to throw, not understanding where the safety is when you're throwing a pass into the end zone which have nothing to do with the 3-10 team, but his own inexperience.
I will give Clemens credit on one count in regards to the safeties. He made some adjustments when he saw single coverage and he took advantage of that. That said, when you're a Jets fan who has suffered through a litany of miserable to mediocre quarterbacks, you get a little bit jumpier than someone else would when you see two terrible, TERRIBLE picks. As much as people were down on Pennington, he really took care of the ball in the red zone. I'm worried that Clemens is the type who's going to try and make a play that isn't there and get burned. -X-
The Great ones make and have made the same mistakes. Unfortunately his receivers are not named Harrison, Wayne or Moss so he can't throw the deep pass to suit his talent, Unfortunately we have a Offensive Coordinator that is calling a game like Captain Check down is still at the helm, Unfortunately he plays in a city that does not comprehend that it took Peyton the great how many years before he won a playoff game. He plays in a city where he has to look like Peyton and not a first time starting Qb after six games.
Yes, we are a little bit impatient. It's only been 40 years since we won a Super Bowl. The thing that scares most of us Clemens doubters is it doesn't look like he's getting any better. I am very concerned about his lack of pocket presence. I was commenting to myself watching the game yesterday that there will be a play where he makes me eat my words. Then the very next play he throws the ball into the ground or over a wide open receivers head - mainly because he's rushing, not setting his feet properly and throwing the ball poorly. They need to work with him on his 3 step and 5 step drops.
Hehe. . . pot stirrer. I'll say this for the idea - I saw AJ Feeley tear the Patriots a new blow hole throwing short and intermediate passes in the middle of the field. Given his limitations, that's really Chad's specialty. But, how am I ever going to criticize Kellen Clemens without people telling me I haven't given him a chance? We're all-in. Roll 'em over - we've been called.
Winny I would say you would have been correct about the shutting down aspect until spy gate came along. I would suspect the NY area did not get to see the Pats/Steelers game & saw how the NEPs went after that player on the Steelers that guaranteed the win. Even Belly mentioned it in his post game presser. I see us being swamped by at least 40 or so before the letup will occur so that we leave town as embrassed as the Steelers did
