He is clearly the biggest Penningtonologist in the world: Today's presser: "Do you really believe Kellen gives you the best chance to win" "(since Kelllen sucks) Will Pennington start next week?" " You obviously need to score more next week against the Patriots. How are you going to do that?" (again- a veiled CHad should still start question) What a moron. We have a rookie QB learning the ropes. Chad has proven he is done. Kellen will be up and down but has shown a lot of good things. Lebefield really really needs to give it up.
But he's not a vet... So that's kind of a stupid argument.... Young QBs need time to learn the ropes and develop (usually, not always).... If Kellen had been drafted in the 1st round (like he would have had it not been for his injury) the fans and the media would be saying we have to give him 3+ years to develop (case in point, Eli Manning)... Now, obviously, it'd be nice if he'd start to show some signs of progression, but one cannot expect to see immediate results from a young QB, especially in such dire circumstances
My point is that he has not done a thing to impress me at all. Chad did as soon as he stepped on the field in 02
It's very true, and, while I don't think it's legitimate (I think a QB will pretty much show what kind of player he is going to be by his 20th start or so) it's funny how fans and writers in the same city can have such contrasting views when it comes to evaluating the play of a young QB
The calls worked out perfectly. He kicks the fg. Now he needs to stop them and get the ball back. (THe mistake was kicking the onside kick). They had them 3rd and 4 and stopped behind the line. I think they played it very very smart.
I am now on the side that says "give the kid a chance". KC is growing on me. But I do not get how we have seen this team play most of this year and how our coaching staff calls plays and there is still people that think Chad is done...I just don't get it. We will not know until Chad is on a different team with a different coaching staff....then we will see if he is really done. As for the Jets, let's give KC a chance, he still may be the real deal.
Chad was in his 3rd season, Kellen his second. We won't know how good Kellen will be until next season. For now, he'll be inconsistent. I just want to see some glimpse of better things from the guy. I haven't seen that yet.
Sorry but the Kellen questions are legit. Now, playing Chad, that's plain dumb. Play Kellen the rest of the year... but nothing impressive has been done.
we really need to find out if Kellen can be the future, so they should just throw the ball like 80% of the time the rest of the way. Get the O-line to work on their pass protection, Kellen his presence, and give some of the receivers on our practice squad a look.
I agree, the Kellen questioning is perfectly normal. We as fans, want results. In Kellen Clemens case, he doesn't have to throw for 5 TD's in one game to "show" us he can do it. We just need to see him improve. Right now I am not sure he has improved at all. The second interception was ALL on him...fade left to I believe Coles. It wasn't even close. It was poorly underthrown and had no chance of hitting Coles. Will Clemens get better? Yes, especially when this team improves. He will be the stater next year and if he doesn't get better we will be drafting a QB in next years draft.
I don't think we need to throw the ball 80% of the time. That is a really bad idea actually. The Jets need to see what he is like in a normal game. We need to see Clemens in 2 minute situations with the game on the line. They also need to see him make decisions. Whether to throw a ball away or eat a sack.
He isn't a penningtonologist. For the record...that is a really gay slang term for a Pennington fan. Leberfield's problem is that he is an asshole. He was screaming for Brooks Bollinger to get a chance as a starter on this team after Penny got healthy.
I'm not sure how anyone can draw any conclusions about KC's abilities with that O-line. The things you can say are that he is tough, has good arm strength, and he seems to have some intangibles.
i did like that 4th down run near the goal-line he had. he needs to work on his accuracy obviously. and he needs to get the ball out sooner. the line needs to learn how to passprotect. the receivers need to get more open. oh, and lets not forget, the offensive coordinator needs to not suck so much.
That's true. Some people thought Chad was holding the playcalling back, but that's obviously not the case. It still sucks. Not sure what people were expecting with Clemens, he's a first time starter, they usually struggle. I would have liked him to play better than he has, but some people were clearly expecting him to come in and play great right away, and that's unrealistic, it rarely happens. He should get the rest of this year, and he should get next year too imo.
