I know you do, I'm just asking if Clippard wasn't one of those class A starters we had to use early last season.
I was thinking. The Yankees haven't done a single thing yet to improve over last year and if anything it could be said that they are worse. As of right now Farnsworth is our setup guy (although eiland thinks he still has talent). We don't have Vizcaino (yet) and Clemens is gone for good (not that that matters). Of course it could have been a lot worse if Arod, Mo, Posada and Pettitte weren't back. The good thing is that at least so far Boston hasn't done anything either.
What are you worried about? Firstly, we have a new manager. One who actually understands young pitching. Then we have an actual pitching coach, rather than just a former pitcher. Not to mention, the kids already like him, and listen to him. Guidry was a fool. We've already upgraded the rotation by adding Hughes and Chamberlain. Keep in mind they're filling in roles filled by the likes of Igawa, Pavano, Wright, and Clippard last year. Kennedy will get the chance to progress into the rotation, but will be a middle man for the first couple months. Viz may or may not come back. I'd like him to return, but we can survive if doesn't. Let's not forget Ohlendorf. We just traded Clippard for a reliever. That's an improvement. And Farnsworth does have talent, though we haven't really been able to see it under Clueless Joe. Hopefully Eiland can work with him, and have his head on straight, and we get a true setup man out of him for the first time since the late 90s. We've also "upgraded" positionally. Keep in mind, the much improved outfield from the end of the season will be the one we start with this coming year. I have no problem at all with the team we have right now. Even if we don't acquire anyone else, we're still in very good shape.
As was Mattingly IMO... it seemed like we were building the ex Yankee museum on the bench... I'm much happier with this CS
I'm not worried at all. Just pointing out that this is so unlike any Yankee team in the last 30 years. Of course if we do end up with Santana or another top pitcher then that will open up a hole or two especially in CF. I'm sure the plan is to have Jackson and Tabata replace 2 of the 3 fielders we have now at some point.
Little tidbit about the Clippard trade: I thought the bolded part was interesting. Looks like we got a decent guy in return. Clippard wasn't what I thought he'd be anyway, so it's nice to see we got some potential value here.
Don and Alio- if we dont upgrade our bullpen, and I mean significantly we have no chance at a title. none whatsoever. I think you guys are being a bit too positive
We have an entire stable full of young pitching that has no place in the rotation. They'll make their way into the pen at some point this year, as I said earlier. Even if they don't, as I've said, I'm unconcerned with this year. I just want development from the youth in '08. I'll wait till '09 for our next title, if need be.
The rising young star that Girardi did his best to ruin his career. Hopefully Joba and Hughes get treated in the same manner as his last young "Ace".
