I'm not. I'm actually kind of hoping Milledge goes on to become yet another embarrassment to this franchise. Maybe it will be enough to finally stop them from making historically atrocious trades.

I guess I am still too much of a Mets brightsider. I myself would have put Milledge in rightfield and tell him, relax, the job is his.

In other words, you are rooting for your team's trade to work out badly? Sure, that makes sense.

This is all fine and dandy except the part about Milledge being a desirable prospect.

Face the facts, people. Milledge is not as desirable as you think.

From what I'm reading, I've been getting the same vibes. I still would've held onto him, but Milledge is not going to make or break a deal at this point. With or without him we either have enough or too little for the O's, A's, etc.

EDIT: What does anyone think the price of AJ Burnett would be? I think I'd at least be willing to take a shot if the O's and A's are asking too much for Haren and Bedard and the asking price isn't too steep (shouldn't be).

After reading various blogs and news sites, I'm pretty skeptical. I don't know if we have the horses to do anything of significance. I hope we end up with an ace, but I don't think we can. And without an ace, I think we're screwed.

I'm already on record saying that I believe that this was a bad trade, but there seems to be little doubt about what you're saying - for whatever reason, it isn't only the Mets that seem down on Milledge.

That's actually the point, of course - if the market is bad for him, it's even more sensible to hold onto him. Apparently Omar got confused and thought that the saying is "Buy high, sell low."

even if that happens, how does that make you feel better? I think L-Millz would've absolutely become a better player than the scrubs they got for him if we just kept him for a few years.

it's a bad trade either way. Why wish bad things on Milledge?

this is irrelevant for me. I'm sure Minaya checked to see if he could include Milledge in a package for an ace and there wasn't much interest.

If that's the case, other teams are undervaluing him, so you KEEP HIM, not trade him for nothing.

Since we didn't even get any crappy Latino players back, it's obvious Minaya was desperate to move Milledge for one reason or another.

    Via WFAN (found on Metsblog):

“There is news floating around that the Mets are close on Erik Bedard.”

Take that as you will. I don't think we have much of a chance but with Bedard saying he wants no part of an extension with Baltimore maybe the O's are panicing to sell high while they can. I don't see where the Dodgers are in this though, as they've got the most chips. Unless they are commited to getting Cabrera or Santana, they should be favorites here.

Like I said, I would've held onto him. I'm not defending the trade. It was terrible in my opinion, I was a big Milledge fan. I'm just saying that I don't think this offseason that it changed our chances of getting a quality starter (whether those chances existed or not to begin with).

It'd be nice if we got rid of some of the garbage we just acquired....

L-Millz was considered a punk in the Met clubhouse. So now its L-SeeULater. Does Omar have to come out and spell it to you?

If the Mets swing Ryan Church for Bedard I will forgive Omar and once again laugh at the Orioles franchise.

Tremendous, probably delusion-caused if. But hell.
