Yeah, I kinda knew he has a good ERA against us, but like I said it's just a feeling, I could be wrong

My mistake, I misread this quote.

I would SO give up Melky, Kennedy, and even two A-tier prospects. If we have a rotation of:

    Santana
    Wang
    Hughes
    Chamberlain
    Moose

We would have to believe the only team that can even come close to competing with us is Boston, and I'd like our chances there.

Anyone have his ERA vs. Boston? That's probably the most significant stat IMO. We know he can destroy anyone else with the run support he'll get.

November 28, 2007 -- The Yankees badly want Johan Santana. Here is a problem: So does just about every other big-market team in the majors.
Yet the complications hardly end there. The Yankees have learned in the past 24-48 hours that the initial asking price by the Twins is exorbitant, well beyond just the Phil Hughes/Melky Cabrera level that had been generally anticipated.

The Yankees are not just gonna steal Santana away from the Twins, if they are going to get him it is going to take a hefty package of prospects to get it done.

I was reading that the Twins asked for either Wright or Reyes in a package for Johan.
I really hope that Minaya laughed at that point.

Something tells me the way the Twins are handling this it will not be done before Winter meetings. This trade may linger for a while.

Can't really blame Minny for shooting for the stars at this point, not very often the best pitcher in the game in his prime is available.I doubt Omar ends up trading Reyes for him but if he gets desperate enough it wouldn't completely shock me. Omar is not gonna sit back and just let the Yanks steal him, problem is without Reyes, the Mets probably don't have the prospects it will take to compete.

This thing is going to go on for a while. The Twins have everyone by the balls right now. They know they can ask whatever they want, and everyone is going to try to outbid each other.

This is another sign Cashman might not be a voice in the organization anymore. There's no way he'd allow the Twins to get to the point where they're saying they want more than Hughes, Cabrera and a minor leaguer.

Thanks but no thanks. The more this goes on, the more I'm willing to let him go somewhere else.

In the end, don't be surprised if Minny shoots itself in the foot though. You can only push your luck for so long. (Remember, they can field a deal from anywhere, but Johan doesn't have to agree to go. The two NYs, Boston, and probably the two LAs are the only places he'll wind up.)

The Twins are just hoping someone will have a momentary lapse in judgement. I'm hoping the Yankees (and actually even the Mets) aren't that team.

  9. I agree w/ you completely about Kennedy Melky and 2 lower prospects.

That Pitching rotation would look awfully, awfully good. And just imagine if Petitte comes back...than maybe Moose falls into a spot starter/long reliever type role. Scary.

Pretty average. 4-4, 3.40 ERA. Not terrible, but not spectacular. For comparison, he's 3-0 with a 2.66 ERA overall against the Yankees.

Excuse me. . . . I don't mean to interrupt, but is it ANDRUW Jones that you are referring to when you suggest that the Yankees "sign Jones to a 2 year deal"??

Can't be. Either I'm missing something or everyone in this thread skipped right over a HUGE bit of lunacy.

But, I'm open to the possibility that you could be referring to Jacque Jones or some other dude named Jones. There are, after all, probably a dozen or so.

And don't write Pettitte off yet. I still think he will be back for one more year.

When was the last time we lost a season series to Boston anyway?

There is no harm in asking. They won't get it and Santana will pick which team he goes to, not the Twins.

No, it was Andruw. Why would that be lunacy? He can probably be bought on a short term deal after last year. He can still play great defense and if he doesn't hit any better then he did last year then so what? Runs aren't a problem for the Yankees. Of course we may still not be dealing with Boras which would make that unlikely. We have a good CF in the minors and if he doesn't have to be part of a trade would probably be ready in a year or two.

I don't think we're going to see him traded much before the deadline. Right now they can ask for whatever they want, but when we're in the middle of the season and they're going nowhere and staring at the prospect of losing him for nothing I'm sure their price will come down a bit.

I think they will get it, maybe not from the Yanks but at least one team(most likely the Mets) will get desperate enough to give in to Minny's demands.

If they wait until the trading deadline they won't get anywhere near as much then as they will now.
