Look at Eli Manning today against the Vikings, four interceptions, three returned for touchdowns, and he is a fourth year QB. Now Kellen ain't great, but he ain't the worst QB in the league. Plus he has led two minute drives to tie the game against Washington and Pittsburgh. I don't ever recall Eli doing that. So for all the Kellen haters that think he is bad, Eli is bad, Kellen is developing. I mean c'mon 4 intereceptions against the worst pass defense, Eli sucks.
I Got alot of faith in kellen clemens, Young QB with a strong throwing arm and can make plays with his feet i think he will be very good down the line but making a prediction about him in just 4 NFL Starts 4 of them against very good defenses. An Eli is just terrible , plain and simple.
I was thinking of the posting a similar thread. Kellen is getting lambasted after 1 bad start on 3 days rest against one of the very top teams in the NFL. Even though, I saw a lot from Kellen who I believe will be successfull. Even if he is not, though, it does not change the fact that Pennington should no longer be starting. He was terrible and a change at QB had to be made.
Eli had his fair share of 4th quarter comebacks. The biggest one was the Eagles game last year when he sucked for 3 quarters then lit it up in the 4th beating the Eagles in overtime with a nasty pass to Burress. Eli does suck, but because he's inconsistent, not because he lacks talent.
I'm willing to give the kid a mulligan this season because it is his first as a starter and our O-Line simply isn't giving him time to look, set, plant and throw. Every successful QB in the league has 5 seconds to throw the ball. KC was lucky if he had 2 1/2 against Dallas. Once we fix the problems with our O-Line, you'll be amazed how well the players at our skill positions will perform.
Exactamundo. And even Peyton Manning had 6 a week back. Come on. I cannot believe people are passing jdgment on a QB after 4 starts with a crappo offense. Look at what he is working with folks.
I agree, except considering that Eli is just so bad, is that really saying much? I still like the optimism and I think Kellen will be very good.
No one's judging him yet after 4 starts... Just many people are saying, "Let's not get too excited about this guy yet, he hasn't looked sharp." You aren't proving what you're trying to say. Saying Eli Manning is bad (which, he really isn't) doesn't prove that Clemens is good. Saying Clemens will be good doesn't disprove the fact that he has played like crud agains the top defenses so far.
First year as a starter: Troy Aikman: 9 TDs, 18 INTs, Comp % - 52.9 John Elway: 7 TDs, 14 INTs, Comp % - 47.5 Peyton Manning: 26 TDs, 28 INTs, Comp % - 56.7 Give KC a little time to figure out what he is doing.
I think most of the "Clemens Isn't Doing Well" crowd is raising the point to contrast those who were crying about how awful Pennington is/was and how Clemens was the obvious better choice and how the Jets would be 8-2 this year if Clemens were starting... it's not because they've written Clemens off as a valid option now and forever. "Give the QB (Clemens) time!" "Get the QB (Pennington) outta there!" Two opposite points of view that have a heck of a lot more to do with the offensive line than with the skill set of the QB. (Although I think Clemens has more to offer, overall.)
Clemens looks OK.....He just seems a lil short. I wish he was a bit taller. He will work out. Jets' need a better blocking TE & a couple of new OL. 2 more good WR's would help also.
Very good job that pointing out how the qualtiy of the team can make a shitty QB look good, thanks for that.
That i agree with. We need some upgrading on the O-line bad. The D has its problem areas, but being able to run out the clock on the ground can help those problems. No O line = no offense = no wins.
Eli has led a ton of 4th qtr comebacks in his career. kellen reminds me a bit of Eli in that they play awful for 3 qtrs then can forget how bad they've played and lead their team back. Those guys all played as rookies, it's a huge diference being able to absorb everything from the bench in year 1 compared to being trowin into the fire right away AND the year before Elway took over they were 2-7, th year before Aikman took over they were 3-13, the year before peyton took over they were 3-13. There's a reason all 3 were #1 overall picks- their teams were brutal. KC stepped into a situation w/ mor etalent to work w/ right off the bat and had the benefitof a year+ to watch and learn.
Yep we were 1-3 before Chad started a game and got humiliated 3 straight weeks by a combined score of 102-13 but it was all the quality of the team around Chad that made the difference. If that's the case then why did we suck the next year when Chad got hurt? why did we do well again when Chad was healthy 2 years later? so good in the 4 games Vinny started we scored a total 50 points(14 of which were KRs) so the O averaged 9 a game w/o Chad as the starter and then 26 a game w/ Chad as the starter but Chad didn't make much of a difference it was only the quality of players around him.
