Going into the season, I thought WR was one of the few positions where the Jets had good depth. Now it's looking like one of the biggest needs.

J-Mac is probably the most hated Jet at this point, with good reason.

Brad Smith has shown nothing - we can only wait so long for the so-called "conversion process" to take place.

Coles is brittle and Cotchery is just a solid #2.

yes, the concensus here was that WR was one of the major strengths, and when Coles is healthy - with Pennington - WR is a strength. however, Coles is getting injured more and more, and we now have a QB that can go downfield. acquiring him a weapon to free up Cotchery is absolutely necessary.

as far as Brad Smith goes, we need to keep waiting. it's only his second year at the position, let alone the NFL itself. he has the potential to be a dangerous threat as long as the coaches teach him how to become a good WR.

Wide receiver is one of the least of the Jets needs at the moment.

They need to get bigger on both sides of the ball and then they can think about adding a wide receiver or a runningback to the mix.

Honestly I think they need a 3rd or 4th round QB to backup Clemens and provide some competition more than they need a WR or RB. Chad is going to be gone next season and I don't want to be a Clemens injury away from catastrophe from game to game the way we were early in Chad's career.

Ah the key word in ur post was "serviceable" instead of say using outstanding which is what we need actually I use the word GAME BREAKERS. I have seen enough "serviceable" players since 70 to tell me that they will not get you the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP that at least some NYJ fans hunger for

Im so sick of the word Serviceable regarding this team it is about to drive me Crazy. In the years since the Joe Namath last won the super bowl we have not had one game changing SUPERSTAR on Offense! I don't think any other team in the Nfl can make that claim. We have had good players. Curtis Martin was a good consistent back but not in the Barry Sanders, Lt mold! We have not had one scary Deep threat or a Qb that scared the life out of anyone! We have a chance to get a possible Gamebreaker at RB in the Draft with Peterson and we will pass yet again! This is beyond disgusting. I have seen enough serviceable players since 80 and the time has come for a change!

That is why I put the phrase in there that at least some NYJ fans hunger for a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. I actually believe there are NYJ fans that are far more interested in winning a game here or there rather then winning the VLT! Serviceable gets U a win here or there nothing more nothing less OUTSTANDING though can get us the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

We never won the superbowl with outstanding WRs like Wesley Walker, Al Toon, Keyshawn Johnson, etc. We need big bodies up front (and on the D-Line) first.

None of the 3 U mentioned were GAME BREAKERS like Moss or TO or Rice to name a few

Whaaaat? For serious? Maybe Keyshawn not so much, but Walker and Toon were flat out gamebreakers during their prime. Unless you only define gamebreakers as "guys fortunate enough to be on a team that won the Super Bowl."

Look, I'm not saying we can't live with an upgrade at the position, esp. considering how beat up Coles has gotten the last couple of years, but you need to build from the lines out. NE won a couple of super bowls recently, remember? What "gamebreakers" did they have out wide?

None of the above are gamebreakers. They are good Nfl Receivers.

Try DM (Don Maynard) or Rice or TO or Moss those are GAME BREAKERS. Walker was a speed WR but was not super star GAME BREAKER like DM or Rice or Moss or TO which is why he is not & never will be in the HOF. Toon & Key were possession type receivers. Yes we have so many needs hoowever to take full effect of KC arm that is what we will need otherwise the same problem we had with crowding the box with CP will occur again with KC cause he has no game breakers

Have to explain things twice so people will get it in here. This point will have to be hammered home like the Chad Pennington is done Thread as well. Don't worry you will see the light on this point in about a year or so! We need a Wr because we have a real Qb now!

So your definition of a game breaker is being the best at your position of all time? The WRs you are mentioning are some of the best WRs of all time, take Rice out of the equatio(who played on one of the best teams ever) and how many SBs have the other won combined?

Toon, Walker & Keyshawn aren't in the conversation of best of all time but they were certainly game breakers in their primes.

Troy Brown is a GAMEBREAKER! Honestly, why does anyone even bother?

Well if U think so wonderful & terrific for U. Sorry I have a completely different opinion then on what is needed then U do. No difference then you advocating sticking with CP all thru last off season & the 1st games of this season & me saying he should be benched.

You will see as time goes if MT & EM are real FB man will come to pass. Who knows maybe the 2 Cinncy guys will opt of there contracts & say they want to play in the big apple. BTW were U not one of the advocates that was saying the #81 up there in NE was a L/room cancer when he was signed?

    Not me. Never said that.

    A. I don't know what goes on in any locker room other than the gym I work out at. To act like I know something I don't is ignorant. Look that up in the dictionary.

    B. Using a term like "cancer" to describe something as trivial as a mouthy professional athlete is insulting to actual real people who have struggled with the disease.

    C. I thought he was done based on how poorly he played in Oakland, I always liked the guy, mouthy or not.

But, you did a real nice job evading the real issue, which is that you don't need the greatest WR of all time in order to win, which is what the Patriots have done with a fairly motley crew of receivers. You need a wall in front of the QB. Did you watch them Sunday night? Brady had enough time to make a sandwich back there and the Bills never got near him. Sure Moss is a GAMEBREAKER, but Welker? He's just a good guy in a great situation. Which is all it will take if we have the horses on the lines.

I agree with your point but Al Toon was as good as any WR I have seen in the NFL and was a much better WR than Don Maynard who I loved as a kid. The only reason Toon will not be in the HOF was due to injury.
