it's not running up the score in the first half. it's what they've done in the second half that's the problem.
1. If you looked, you would see that I did correct myself long beofre this post. 2. I'm not sure Miami will have a bigger spread than the Jets. The whole world knows that there is bad blood between the Jets and the Pats. Where do you think the money will go there? Everyone will be expecting that the Patriots will apply as big a beating as possible on Mangini.....the motivation is not there for the LOLphins. No, it wouldn't shock me at all if the spread was larger against the Jets than the phins...it's about splitting the money in Vegas, not talent.
Out of curiosity what do the Pats fans on here think Jim Johnson is going to do if the Pats try this shit against the Eagles this weekend? What would your reaction be to an all out blitz? And what would your reaction be if Brady actually got hurt during a play in which the Eagles sent in an all out blitz when the Pats were comfortably ahead? All it takes is one flailing Offensive or Defensive linemen to end your fun real quick.
How is this different from any other blitz play? I don't understand the question. You don't think teams have been blitzing the Pats when they are comfortably ahead? Do you believe that Brady has not been getting blitzed this year or something?
The Eagles have one sack in the last three weeks.. including zero vs the Dolphins. The chances of them touching Brady let alone sacking him are slim at best. You have to hit Brady in order to hurt him, with the amount of time Brady has to throw I can't imagine their is much fear of anyone hurting him right now.
The Bills did the "all out blitz" many people want opposing teams to do so much quite a few times last night. The result? The o-line picks it up, Brady sits there all day and Randy Moss is looking like a punt returner in the endzone just sitting there with nobody in sight, waiting for the ball to come down. Oh and I almost forgot. How classless it is that they started handing the ball to their fullbacks every play with 10 minutes left in the 4th! That is just totally insane, they are intentionally trying to make the Bills feel like shit when they can get a 50 yard drive handing it off to Heath Evans right up the middle every single play.
I'll never understand this whole "running up the score" bullshit. If the opposing team is still on the field, then you damn well better be trying to score. The two objectives in football are 1) Score and 2) stop the opponent from scoring.
LOL I remember seeing that guy when the Pats went for a 4th and something near the Bills goal line. I was really hoping they'd show him after they picked it up.
Football is a very physical and consequently emotional game... When you're a defensive player, and you've been beat up and down the field by an opponent, you take it very personally when they don't show you the common respect to tone it down.... Once you've been beat, and beat, and beat, too much has been taken out of you to put up a reasonable fight at that point, except for the rare circumstance where something phenomenal sparks it.... I've been on my fair share of bad football teams and I know that feeling all too well.... In the defensive huddle, there is NO worse feeling, and, no matter how great the guys in there are, the talk turns to making the offense pay for their lack of respect.
Good teams only have miraculous comebacks because they don't focus on being pissed off, they stay calm and they keep fighting. I'm guessing that the teams you've played on aren't professional teams so that alone makes it entirely different. Even when a team is up 30 on a shitty team in the NFL, that shitty team is still composed of 50 of the best 2000 or so football players alive in the world. I can see where someone would get mad if a team does something like doing a fake knee-down then throwing up a bomb when up by 30 with 5 seconds left in the game, but what the Pats have been doing isn't anything like that. If a team is upset with any scoring that an opponent does not including in the last 5 minutes of the game up by 24+ points than that team should be ashamed because it means that they are giving up on something that they are paid to do. If you're a coach wouldn't you rather just make it a 100% chance of a win rather than a 98 and risk being labeled a classless douchebag?
I've been on the next best thing... Maybe not the best football players in the world, but Ive been on teams full of guys who are payed to play the game... The mentality is the same.... Thats why, even in the NFL, there are only 5 or so 'miracle' comebacks that have been completed.... And no, if I'm up 30+ points as a coach, I trust my defense won't blow it, and I play a conservative game, take out my starting QB, run the ball and try and end it quickly.... I don't go for it on 4th down, and I don't throw the ball, at all, with the #1 guy....
I consider it running up the score when you are up big and have a 4th and goal, and you go for the TD. I have no problem if you kick the ball. You know you are going to win it take the 3 and you don't get booed for being classless. Since you go for the TD you get the "classless" label. Thats why people give a crap. It's 4th down and you go for 6 instead of the easy 3.
kicking a FG is scoring too and would accomplish the objective, so choosing to go for the TD when it is virtually unnecessary is the very definition of running up the score. running up the score is a real practice, it hasn't just been made up because of the Pats, yet you are trying to say it isn't simply because you don't mind it. that's a poor argument. you may agree with it, but that doesn't diminish what it is. it is running up the score, and it doesn't bother me a bit. at some point, the Pats may very well need to actually convert a 4th down in a crucial situation, so to some extent Belichik is giving his players practice for such a scenario. what I want to see is the Patriots stop kicking extra points and start going for 2 point conversions after every TD they score. now that would really cause an uproar.
wouldn't make a difference to me if they did go for 2 every time. either way they're running up the score.
