I have thought we needed to address WR for a long time. Our current group was the perfect compliment to CHad, but you can see that they are not ideal for Kellen's strengths. We need to build around Kellen, and the FO will notice this too, so expect some WR moves in the offseason. I think CHansi will have a great chance to be very productive next year. And don't give up on Smith, his reps as a pure receiver will continue to grow with Kellen and he will improve.
I think our current WRs are still adjusting to the timing and velocity of Kellen's throws compared to Chad's. Even my wife pointed that out yesterday, something to the effect that our receiver's aren't used to so much heat on the ball. At camp though, Chansi Stuckey had great hands with Clemens' passes... almost like he came straight from college being used to receiving hard-thrown balls. It was almost like, since he never had much time receiving many of Chad's bloopers, he didn't have to "undo" that easier, lazier timing conditioning. Give Clemens the remaining 6 games with Smith and Cotchery (and even our RBs and TEs) catching a lot of the hotter passes and then bring in some other speedster for TC next summer and they should all get the timing down a lot better by Game One. McCareins should either be gone by then or permanently hand-cuffed to the steam pipes in the basement of Giants Stadium.
Not fair, they have Kitna as QB and he sucks. If Williams and Johnson played for a great QB they would both have 1000 yards
I think LC in an elite WR in the game. He can be deep threat, and I don't think that his not being wide open is a matter of speed, but the fact that their DBs are pretty good and our pass-play designs don't necessarily benefit our best receivers the way many other teams plays do.
I would not be against taking a wr in the 3rd or 4th round to develop over a few years. No chance I take one in the first two rounds with the more pressing issues this team has on the lines. If Coles and Cotchery are both healthy they are very solid. J-mac has to go, Brad Smith is a 4th wr, special teams, gadget play wr, Stuckey was unreal in training camp but can he ever stay on the field? They do need a third wr badly but you can find that guy in free agency on the cheap probably.
I would not mind taking a WR in the 1st(if we trade back) or 2nd rd this year if the talent is right. Our lack of WR depth has definitely been exposed enough in my eyes to warrant being a big enough problem. Building your team yr to yr is a balancing act of what we need now vs what we need in the future. Our Oline situation is what it is from years of ignoring the position. If the value is good I take the BPA rather than reach to satisfy a short term need.
Sorry if you do not see it but Crotch, JMaC, Smith & Coles are not what we need if we want to take full effectiveness of KC arm. Hope Man & Tan see this as well & correct the inbalance this off season
I'm with you on not taking a WR in the 1st or even 2nd (unless some irresistable, #1-rated guy falls in your lap and just happens to be there at our pick in the 2nd), but we do have so many needs yet. Actually, there's always some disgruntled, pissed-off WR somethere else wanting to be traded or available in F/A, so I'd rather build the lines with the draft.
Cotch is a good tough go over the middle and make the tough catch Receiver every Qb needs. The rest should be shown the door though.
i agree completely.. remember, when coles is healthy, not very many people have anything negative to say about the recieving corps at all.. except for a bad mccareins play here and there but thats nothing new.
What is it you're proposing? To what extent do you want Man and Tan to "correct the inbalance" with the above guys? BTW, I never said McCareins should be anywhere but handcuffed to the steam pipes in the boiler room of Giants Stadium. You've also failed to mention Stuckey in your evaluation of our WRs. With (hopefully) a healthy Stuckey and Coles healthy for one more season and the returns of Cotchery and Smith, and the possible acquisition either thru F/A or the draft of one more large, fast, physical prototypical WR, I see no reason to go crazy and spend valuable capital trying to improve this lot. Just my opinion, but I think this is a more than servicable WR crew and, when coupled with some of the other targets we have (Baker, Kowalewski, Leon, etc), this is more than Clemens needs to move the chains. My concerns are lines, particularly the D-Line, where we need to spend some serious capital to upgrade the run-stop and pass rush.
Like Limas Sweed out of Texas; 6'4 217#s coming off of a knee injury. Might b able 2 pick him up in the 2nd.
That dropped Td in the endzone yesterday tells me other wise aswell as his dropped passes against washington , he needs to work on his recieving as for cotchery he's been a ghost witout coles in there.
Since we are rebuilding and all why can't Wallace Wright have a shot at a few balls throw his way. He is a Wr that was drafted to play the position!
Absolutely... forgot all about him. As far as Smith's dropped passes, this is an anomoly with him. I'm not concerned. I'm more concerned with Stuckey's durability, which is a question mark now. I love the kid, but he's got to prove he can play for us for 16 games. He looked terrific in Camp but that doesn't count come September.
I'm not worried about Cotchery. He's a guy they have to key on because he's a constant threat after the catch and maybe it's been easier to cover him without Coles on the field. I only see him improving and he's certainly shown he's a durable guy. Put another good wideout opposite him and watch him light up the stadium.
I Agree but he's gonna have to get it going if coles aint out there cause i cant trust brad smith that much.
Oh, I agree. He needs to step it up and keep it there, but I think he's capable of that. The Dallas game is really going to be interesting. I'm anxious to see if our DEF can step it up at all against TO and Romo. Better yet, I want to see Clemens hang it all out on OFF. Too bad Coles won't be on the field, because I think that would have made a hell of a difference. I'm just looking for us to be competetive in this game, that's all. If we could pull out a win, that would all be gravy, just like the Steelers game.
