Today was the first time my 7-year-old son, Alex, actually watched the entire second half and overtime of a football game. By half-way through the 4th quarter he was totally into it. He was pacing on the sofa cushions and hanging on every snap. When things didn't go right, it was "they're gonna lose"...when the the Jets made a decent play, it was "OH YEAH! OH YEAH! I know they can win it!" I had to try and calm him down and tell him that the game could go either way and that the Jets usually lose these game...so he shouldn't get his hopes up. When the Jets were on their final drive of regulation Alex kept screaming at the TV, "they need to go for the touchdown!" When Nuge hit the final FG we were hugging and high fiving. He is now looking forward to the Thanksgiving game....he is officially hooked. The poor kid...he has no idea the angst that awaits him with this star-crossed franchise. DbJ
I'll never forgive my father (who, by the way is a Rams fan) for bringing me to a Jets game in 1996 when I was not yet 8 years old and getting me hooked... You did a terrible thing today.... Terrible....
I don,t know if I should congratulate u or maybe tell u to warn him like I did to mine (who now out posts me on gang green) remember the old country song says DON'T LET YOUR BABIES GROW UP TO BE JETS FANS Save yourself kid its not too late
There's nothing better...my son has been watching every game with me for the last 2 seasons and he's only 4!!! We do the same thing every Sunday.
Absolutely great story. I cant wait till i have one to go through that with. Congrats Dad for Making a Jets fan out of your son. GO JETS!!!!
Zing! ... DBJ, I'm glad to hear you are going to be bonding with your son during the games more often, now that he is into it. Prep him for the future, knowing his QB growing up was Kellen Clemens.
at least when he's old enough to really care Brady and Belichick will have retired and the pats won't be the most ridiculously perfect team ever to play football. god I hate the pats!
i started goin 2 games in 92'..im now 20 and ur son has no idea what hes gettin into haha...great story by the way
I'm getting nervous, my 1st is due December 16th which may go down as the worst loss in Jets history although I can't imagine anything going wrong that day of he comes out before the game. That'd be great watching the game with my hours old son and the Jets knock the Pats and Brady off their pedestal.
The best thing about this thread is that DBJ talked about his son.... and rooting for the Jets. Last year it was quite another thing.... and how happy am I to recall the outcome of those dark days now? There are many things in life that are worse than being a Jets fan. Glad to hear life is normal for you and your clan now, DBJ!
