Good to see that the Yanks are back to their old ways of overpaying and outspending the rest of MLB. I guess the old man is getting nervous he has seen his last Yankee championship before he makes his exit.
Here's something to think about. One way or another, either by confession or by trial, it is about to be proved once and for all that Bonds was juiced when he set both the single season and all time HR records. So, with that said, as much as people may think they hate Arod, everybody who cares at all about baseball will be cheering him on wildly to break that record as soon as he possible can. Unless baseball removes it (which I doubt they have the balls to do) the next best thing is for somebody to break it and the only person on the horizon for the next 20 years at least who can do it is Arod.
Ok, now that I'm over Arod coming back it's time to get pissed again. I just heard the Yankees have offered Lowell a 4 year deal worth 50-55 million to play 1st base? Are they totally nuts? If they want somebody to play first base, get Cabrerra even if does cost a couple of prospects. Lowell will be terrible in NY with that big left field. Keep the people we already have before signing Lowell. On top of that they are trying to force the Red Sox into going after Cabrerra by this move. How does that help us? Maybe the thinking is if they do there is no way they can go after Santana. Supposedly nobody can match the Yankees for Santana anyway.
Relax... I seriously doubt Boston is going to let Lowell walk...and I don't know if Lowell wants to play 1st... this could be like when we offered Nomar a contract to play 2nd
so I think I read that Miano says Bostons success is due only to yankee failure.....interesting. so noone actually wins the world series, the yankees just dont win them.....what say Boston fans about this?
Hi Alio - My feelings towards Arod did not change until I saw him make the about face and crawl back to the Yankees. I did not blame him for opting out, that was his right. But to opt-out, and THEN say I always wanted to be a Yankee sounds so phony to me. If you don't see that, I think in this case, you are just wearing your Yankee rose colored sun glasses. I didn't see where Lo Duca was busted for anything. Thats a story I have to catch up on. As far as Beltran, I have never liked him since he had Boras go back to the Yankees and offer to play for them for less money when he was a free agent. I wish the Mets would trade him tomorrow. The guy has talent, but no heart. I also hated Tom Glavine and was almost glad to see him get creamed in his last start as a Met when he was pitching for the division championship. Maybe because I have been watching sports for over 40 years - I look past the uniforms and more at the person wearing it. There are even Yankees I have liked in the past. So, in response, I hope I expressed that I am not blinded by the uniform a person is wearing. As always - PEACE.
Joe, you would think that after watching baseball for 40 years you wouldnt care about hte person behind the uniform.....as fans we all root for the uniform...how can you root for the person? you dont know who the hell they are? and how could you remain a met fan for 40 years in that case....wouldnt you be changing allegiance every year depending on which team had the most amount of likeable guys.....its a retarded position.....everyone roots for the uniform
I agree to a point Jonny, maybe 90%. BUT there are guys on teams I root for that I just don't like( eg. Beltran and Glavine when he was here). Just a couple of examples - as a fan, it sucked when Beltran struck out with the bases loaded in the pennant race against the Cardinals - BUT I would have felt ALOT worst if David Wright struck out in the same spot. Same thing with Tom Glavine last year. The guy showed no heart or guts in the last game against Florida Marlins - and got busted for it. IF the same thing happened to Pedro, I would have felt worst.
I guess I see what youre sayin......but if its a playoff game and a yankee strikes out to lose the game I dont care who it was, Im equally sick over it
Well, he is looking for a 4 year deal and Boston has said they won't go beyond 3 (sound familiar). We'll see.
I'm really worried about Hank Steinbrenner and his willingness to become the next Yankees General Manager.
I think your not reading into what I'm writing. Certainly the Sox won the series but they won so easily by following a model set forth by the Yankees. You guys have failed because you have gotten away from the model that brought you all that success. When the Yankees get away from trying to be the biggest spenders and back to trying to have a team they will once again be succesful but right now all I see is stupid spending by the Yankees. The Lowell move may work for a year but in the long run it will be a failure with no gauruntee of winning until that pitching comes around. You know it yourself maybe you won't admit it but you definately know that since the Yankees lost to Arizona in 2001 they have made bad move after bad move with relativley no success.
No your not.... there is a huge difference from 1996 to 2007 in terms of the style of players and the experience of your pitching staff. Your rotation was Pettite, Jimmy Key, David Cone (he came later but I don't know who he replaced) Dwight Gooden, and Kenny Rogers. With the exception of Pettite they all were in their 30's and take out Rogers and Pettite and they all had won a WS before. Now potentially your pitchers can be better than these guys but if Pettite does not come back you have one guy Mussina that has pitched in any postseason other than the ALDS. I'm not counting your bullpen. Bullpen you guys had Wettland and Mo as your setup and closer, not that bad. As of right now you don't have a closer or a setup guy. You even had Dave Weathers, Bob Wickman, and Jeff Nelson all very good BP guys. This your projected lineup as of now CF - Melky RF- Abreu LF- Damon/Matsui 1B- Phillips /Giambalco/Alphabet Soup 2B- Cano SS- Jeter 3B- Arod C- Posada/Molina DH- Giambalco/Damon/Matsui/Posada vs 1996 C - Girardi 1B - Tino 2B Mariano Duncan SS Jeter 3B Boggs RF Paul O'Neill CF- Bernie LF- Gerald Williams DH - Fielder/Strawberry/Ruben Sierra/Tim Raines Look at the difference, yeah they won with pitching but look at these lineups. yeah a few all-stars with the 96 team but no superstars, a few vets, a few system guys and alot of role players. Even the Allstars weren't superstars and I'd say Paul O'Neiil was the biggest role player ever. Big difference between 96 and 07. I don't know why most Yankee fans don't see it, go back to that model and you'll be with the Sox. That is the same exact model they are using and it works. Works very good while overpaying for everybody and jacking up the payroll doesn't. I know if I was a Yankee fan I'd want a team that resembled what you had in 96 vs what you have had the last 4 years.
Actually, the pitchers that won most of those 4 rings were a combination of Pettitte, Clemens, Wells, El Duque, Contreras and Cone, even Irabu had a couple of starts in there. With Stanton, Rivera and Nelson leading the pen. I believe Pettitte will be back, I believe we have the most to offer for Santana if he becomes available (so do all the "experts") and I believe at least two of our three young pitchers will excel. The fact that we have better position players only helps but it will be pitching that gets us back to winning championships. I can see a rotation of Santana Wang Hughes or Chamberlain (one goes to the Twins) Pettitte or Mussina Kennedy If the Twins don't trade Santana then it will be Wang Chamberlain Hughes Pettitte or Mussina Kennedy In any event it will be better then this year's was.
