i gotta agree with the 2 previous post. I sat there for 5 mins and could not decide. ITS GOTTA BE ALL OF THE ABOVE!
Untrue. It was the first time in weeks he practiced with the first team, and only the second time he's done so. QBing has a lot to do with timing. I'm not arguing that QB is the biggest problem. I'm simply saying that the choice should have been there. If a poll is to be complete, it must allow for all possible options, and the voters should be the ones to decide the answer, not the poller. Regardless, whether you accept it or not (and I know you don't) QB has been a problem this year. A big one.
After seeing a Rookie having, what, 40 Tackles in 2 games? I gotta go with LB as our biggest problem. Of course Harris is good, but how can any guy make that many tackles? The answer is simple, cuz the other guys who are suposed to tackle don?t. Harris is the only one, that goes into a block agressive and is able to shed the block and make a play. Of course, they would have a much easier life, if we would have beef upfront, but that?s not a excuse for doing nothing. Our LBs (exept Harris) are very poor in stuffing the run, and not able to get any kind of passrush, when blitzing. If i have to point at one unit only, it?s them. There?s only one LB among our top 5 tacklers, and that?s 2 Game-starter Harris. we got 2 CBs and a S among our top 5 tacklers... oh yeah, fire Sutton
All of you guys calling for a scheme change to the 43 have lost your minds. Think about it, what good does it do to abandon it, if you plan on making it the staple of your D? So stop all work on it and move away just to come back to it later with no experience gained. I'm sick of all the win now shit. Go read a book or something, because it's gonna be a long ass second half of the season, like it or not.
How about win ever Johnny? And I'm not talking about a 10-6 early round exit type of winning, I'm talking about a team winning a particular way and using that way to make some serious noise for more then a year or so. We all know Mangini is trying to do that and I agree with you about switching to a full time 4-3, but there's something seriously wrong when you take as big a step back as the Jets did this season. This team needs a win right now more then anything to change there mentality. If we as fans can sit back and watch the Jets build a lead and know that there going to fold like a house of cards down the stretch, what must be going through there minds?
What is happening this season is what should have happened last season. We were not good last year and had a weak schedule and got lucky. Period. We have the same team and with Thomas Jones a better offense and look like crap. We lost to every team over 500 we played last year except the patriots once. There is nothing wrong we are paying the piper for last years luck and Tangini believed their press clippings and drafted as such. We have a brutal schedule the rest of the way and the only games that we have a realistic chance of winning the rest of the way are the Ten-Because their offense is suspect, KC-Because Herm is their coach and Mia-They are still looking at us as the beatable team on their schedule. We will prob be blown out of the rest of the games. This year is a evaluating year and that is that. Our chance to finish with a decent record was taken away about a month ago when Mangini refused to bench chad out of dumb loyalty. It gets uglier from here if your looking for wins. We have Pitt and Dallas the next two games. To get that team that wins with noise we are going to have to draft well and draft playmakers for years! Hopefully Mcfadden will be the first step.
It?s not the 3-4 that is the problem. Everytime a D-player talked about the D during Camp, he was saying, that they?re working at the hybrid. Now we got a D that can play a 43 and a 34, but sux at both. Decide which D you play, and make it work during camp. Don?t waste all the time trying to make both work. it didn?t work. and fire sutton
It makes no diff who our coordinator is with our defense. Until we get the right players it will stink no matter what. The talent is not there to coach up. David Harris is a 3-4 fit and it shows! It will take two years to get the players to show results in this defense. Period!
but we don?t have the fits for a 43 anymore, too. Pohua or Mosely don?t absolutely have starting DT potential. and we got only 1 43 DE. We?re in a very deep valley right now, and have to decide which wall we?re gonna climb up. And a new D-coordinator could light up some fire in some of the player or at best the hole Defense. I can?t see it getting any worse, if we kick sutton out of the door!
For this team to play better on Defense Mangini has to go out the door and a 4-3 coach has to be hired. That is not going to happen. They are going to stay the course and get the players they want for the next three years and that is that. I hope you have another team you root for besides the Jets that can bring you happiness for the next few years because this seems to be a done deal. Hopefully we can see some promise by 2009 but the next two years are going to be very ugly. They are not even going to begin to sign impact free agents for at least two years.
Anyone with any football knowledge would know that it is not the QB. In my opinion we have two decent QB's. The biggest problem I see is the coaching staff. We have good players on offense and should be a lot more effective, especially in the running game. You cannot expect to have 5 probowlers starting on the line, no one else does, so I believe it is the coaching, the scheme, and the playcalling. How can Indy plug in a left tackle and not have issues? How can atlanta have the best running game, then lose Alex Gibbs and completely suck? The broncos are the same way. We need a good o-line coach, a better O-coordinator, and some talent to play the 3-4 with some good position coaches on D. What we don't need is a QB, RB, TE, LT, C, or WR, but we may want to find one to eventually replace coles.
I am not defending Chad's poor play this year but to even think of considering him as the #1 problem with the jets this year is unimaginable. Did you even watch last week's game? Did we lose because Chad was not stopping the run? Did Chad not rush the passer well? If you actually watched last weeks game, the reasons we lost were the same as the reasons we have been losing all year; which is no D line. They cant stop the run or rush the passer. But I guess you dont know anything about football and how games are won and lost in the trenches.
our major problems are the right guard, right tackle, nose tackle positions, which include the pass rush. look at the giants the linebackers are average and secondary is suspect but a great pass rush, thats why they are good.
I guess we now have to beat this to death with a pole. No doubt, our glaring problem is the defensive line. If we had that alone fully fixed, quite a few of our L's would be W's right now and we would still have a season of hope to hold on to.
With the blitzing the Redskins have and the secondary they have how would the story have ended last week. The score would have been 45-3. Clemens kept us in the game despite our horrendous Defense. Clemens gave us a chance Chad could not. Both lines have to be fixed from top to bottom. Period!
I don't buy into the "paying the piper" stuff. We feasted on bad teams and fringe teams last year, and now we're losing to them. You said yourself that the tough part of the schedule is coming up, and the team is rolling into it with a 1-8 record. This year is an evaluation year because the team has been out of the playoff race for weeks. Thats the only reason why...a direct result of losing. Coaches don't schedule evaluation seasons for a team. Good coaches with a proven track record do it from time to time with key players, but not an entire team. Agree about the play makers, they're needed on both sides of the ball. Hopefully Harris is the real deal and not the product of the swiss cheese D-line and Revis continues to develop. It does look like this team will have top 5 pick so, even though the draft is a crap shoot, they could be able to address one of the larger problems on the team at that point.
I said I agreed with him a about switching to a full time 4-3, as in we shouldn't do it. It won't change the outcome of this season so Mangini mite as well see what he can do this offseason to make the 3-4 actually work.
