I think bringing back Posada is very important. I love Rivera, but he is clearly declining every year.
Oh, yes, indeed Posada would be a perfect Met player. Let's see, he's old and has won already. He'll fit right in playing grab-ass in the locker room and dugout, collecting a huge paycheck and not giving a shit about winning.
Baseball is good again because of this Girardi thing. This overrated manager is going to be a barrel of laughs in 2008.
Lo Duca 35 years old 272 BA, 9 HRs, 54 RBIS Posado 36 years old 338 BA, 20 HRS, 90 RBIS Who exactly did you want as catcher next year? AND what is wrong with "won already". You think never winning is better?
The Mets sign too many older players who have lost the hunger to win. See One Third Glavine for starters. Here's a scumbag who was stealing money and only "disappointed" when he shit himself on the mound in arguably the biggest regular season game in Mets history. I mentioned in another thread that the Mets could trade for one of the Pittsburgh catchers. One of them will have to go soon because Pittsburgh apparently has a good catcher prospect on either their AA or AAA team. Who the hell wants another old catcher?
The Mets really won't go far with Ronnie Paulino and all of his 11 hrs, and 55rbis as their starter. Pittsburgh has no other catcher on their roster worth mentioning. Posada can give you 20 hrs and 80 rbs and not get hurt for the next 3 years. Notice he does not have a typical catcher's body.
cakes I love how every one of your opinions is posted as if its fact.....how is girardi overrated??? are people all across the land singing his praises? no...hes managed one year and won an award for it....Id say hes not overrated or underrated
Overrated? He managed all of one year and took a crap team and kept them competitive for most of the year. Where is the overrating coming from? edit: Oh, I just saw where johnnyd said the same thing..sorry.
And fired for telling his owner to shut his big, fat, fahking yap. This has the makings of some dynamite Post headlines. But, I also think Girardi seems to have the makings of a good manager.
Are you aware of the players on the 2006 Marlins roster? Any halfway decent manager would have had that team around the .500 mark. Let's not make Joe Girardi out to be Connie Mack here.
Ooh, he won a major award. Did he get a sexy leg lamp? I have seen people at this website kill Dick Vermeil (nyjunc just recently), Chuck Knox, Jim Haslett, Andy Reid, Marty Schottenheimer, and Dick Jauron. (Yes, I realize different sport.) Those guys all won the NFL Coach of the Year award at one time. I did not think Girardi should have won the award that year. If you want, you can do a search and find comments I made at the time.
they had a 15 mill payroll, no pitching staff and about a zillion rookies. they also managed to stay in the wildcard race until september
They had good pitching and they had several good players such as Ramirez and Cabrera. The payroll number means nothing.
Ill pass on the research thing. Im not saying that he won some amazing award and therefor hes joe mcarthy......what I am saying, and it ws pretty clear the first time, is that you have no grounds on which to call him overrated because hes not receiving huge accolades from baseball people all across the land. Hes been getting "decent" reviews. so unless you think hes grossly less than decent then he cant be overrated. yes?
Fellas- just don't bother with me if you don't agree. I won't be convinced Girardi is a special manager unless the Yankess win a WS with him as manager or he goes somewhere else and wins. I was simply not impressed with the job he did in 2006. To be fair, I probably only saw him manage 25 games that year, but I suspect that is probably at least 20 more games than you Yankess fans saw him manage.
I have gotten the sense from message boards and callers to WFAN that Girardi is the next Miller Huggins. So that's where I'm coming from with the overrated angle.
