'76 was bad but '75 and '77 were also 3-11. I don't think anybody expected anything good to come from the '76 team.
You bitch about coaching, Lou Holtz was the outright bottom. After the Jets won their last preseason game against the Oilers, Holtz whips out the Jets fight song and has the players, lead by Namath, sing it to the tune of ''The Caissons Go Rolling Along,'' ''
This team has literally been in all of these games. I would say they should have been 4 and 4 at least if it wasn't for the defense.
Jet's could you the infusion of talent a top 5 draft could give it, if they decide to go on a run with Chad the rest of the season it will do more damage than good IMO.
Lou Holtz was just not an NFL coach. He was a pretty good college coach though. NFL coaches have to be hardened to survive the competition and the often brutal player/coach interactions. In college you get a walk-on who wants to play football and if he really isn't making the grade you find a spot for him on the end of the bench and he can tell his kids he played for South Carolina. In the NFL if he's just a half-second slow you kill his career and cut him and he has to go live in the real world. Some guys just can't do that over and over again without paying a price. Rich Kotite is the only coach in history who could have jumpstarted Wayne Chrebet's career. Anywhere else and he's out the door and never sees the NFL playing field. Dick Vermeil might have done it also.
This isn't a good Jets team but they've been in almost every game so they're nowhere near the worst Jets team in history. A better QB gets them at least a couple of wins. A decent WR instead of McDroppins catches one of the balls from Clemens and they would have gone to OT against Baltimore.
This has got to be one of the most painfully depressing seasons in Jets history. This team truly deserves to be mentioned with the worst Jet teams of all time.
This team could beat the 1996 team hands down. We have been close in some games. This may be one of the most mismanaged teams ever however, it is not the worst. By the way there is still half a season to play. Mangini is not currently acting as a model coach but comparing him with Kotite etc. is just unfair.
For all his warts, Herm is IMHO the better coach. Also, ditching Kendall was a colossal mistake. Adrian Clarke blows
This is not the worst Jets team ever, but we are fairly pathetic. At 1-7 it would be futile to continue to play Pennington. His lack of arm strength was very evident today. I think he is still hobbled by the ankle injury and with the windy conditions Penny just could get it done at all. I think Mangini waited too long to put Clemens in. It was BS time and very unlikely that we were going to pull any kind of win out of out A's. I really think Clemens should hav been put in to start the 4th quarter. While I consider it a mistake, I can't make much of any issue over it. We were 1-6. If Clemens doesn't start next week and play the rest of the season regardless of what happens then I think the Jets are being very foolish.
exactly! Kotite at least won 10 and 11 games in his first two season before revealing that he was an absolute garbage head coach. Mangini has revealed that he is garbage exponentially faster.
I understand why it is time to play Clemens now, but I thought the time was weeks ago. but if the coach now realizes he gives the team the best opportunity now to win, why couldn't he weeks ago. playing Clemens now only exemplifies Mangini's incompetence IMO.
Not the worst Jets team ever. I remember the early Walt Michaels teams and they were bad, but for me that 96 team was the worst. Those games were completely unwatchable. (Sorry Adrian Murrell) The fact that there are so many teams in the discussion for the worst Jets team ever says a lot about this franchise.
