I started thinking about this today. If we don't beat Buffalo we will be 1-10 before our next chance for a win. We will also end up 2-14 or 3-13 at best. Looking back at some of our other dismal years we have had I can only find these. 1-15 in 1996 3-13 in 1995 That's about it for comparables although we had some 3-11 years when we played 14 game seasons. Why I think this could be worse then any of those years is because of the high expectations a lot of people had for the team this year. So then the obvious question is why?
The 1976 team was absolute ass. They were 3-11. Two of the wins were against the 2-12 Bills. The other win was against a first-year team (Buccaneers). The Jets were frequently non-competitive that year. At least this year the Jets are competitive, aside from the Week 1 game. Here are the scores of the 1976 games: 17-38 3-46 0-16 6-17 17-14 7-41 0-20 19-14 7-27 34-0 24-38 16-33 16-37 3-42
This team is 1-6 atm. If they now go 1-7 or 2-8 the rest of the way they'll be a really terrible team. We're not there yet. The 1996 team actually had about as much talent as this team, however they quit basically from the first game and were blown out regularly.
I dont Post much anymore... You know Real Job, Growing up ect... I still love my Jets as much as anybody on this board. I Live in "Bills Country" and put up with all the shit associated with that. This team in now way is as bad as some of the teams I grew up with! Kenny O'Brien was 10 time worse that Chad. Bubby, Neil, Hasty (when he sucked), D' White, Malumalla.... We are a team that is commpetitieve week in and week out. DO I think it is time for Kellen.... NO. I want to see a change as much as the next guy but Chad really does give this team a chance to win. Without him we are just as bad as some of the teams you guys are too young to rembember...
I don't really agree with that. They got blown out only five times. Of course, most teams don't get blown out five times. Denver blew them out in Week 1, 31-6. Joe Aska and the Raiders killed them 34-13 in October. Then they had that horrible three-game stretch in late Nov/early Dec when they lost 35-10, 35-10, and 34-10. In the other 11 games they tried, but they just weren't good enough 10 times. They lost 21-7 to the Colts. Miami beat them 36-27 in the third game. The Giants game was 13-6. They lost in Washington 31-16. The game was closer than the score would indicate. There was a bogus call against the Jets on a play in the end zone. IIRC, if the play was called correctly the Jets would have been awarded a TD and would have attempted the game-tying PAT in the 4th quarter. The Jets lost by 4 to JAX and 3 to BUF before beating Arizona. Then they lost by 4 to NE and 5 to IND. In the 15th game they blew a 13-point 4th quarter lead and lost by one point. In the finale, Miami beat them 31-28.
This is the quintessential Don thread. It has everything. Negativity. Hyperbole. Merging a discussion of past failures with current failures. Just a thing of beauty.
What kind of thread is this?! I've lived through Jets plagues the world has never seen. I got the greatest Birthday card from an old friend of mine about 20 years ago. All it said was, "HOLDING!" Hehe. True story, and I think I still have it somewhere.
The 2007 Jets are better than the 2005 Jets, who were not the worst Jets team in team history, so I guess the answer is no.
When were you born? Or when did you become a Jets fan? We have had far worst seasons. This is bad, but it has been much worse then this......
I think in terms of raw talent on the team , this is an underachieving team against a bad team. I think that accolade goes to Kotites team , Mr Anti-Midas. we can laugh/spew or poo about it now
I think the answer is pretty clear, the people with high expectations for this year were completely clueless about the talent level on this team and most of them think Chad is a top 10 NFL QB. Of course blaming the HC who is rebuilding, instituting a new system and is bringing along a young QB is another sign of the brilliant expectation level of the same people who had high expectations. I have seen about 41 years of Jets football, this is one of the least talented teams we ever had. The Kotite team had more over all talent and ODonnel and Foley both at least had NFL arms.
Reality really gets to you, doesn't it? I have watched every Jets team since 1966. There were plenty of teams that I thought were great but ended up disappointing. There were others that I didn't think were that great and ended up looking great by the end of the year. Like I said, the only reason I thought this might be the case is because of the results versus the expectations. Live with it.
Reality? So you are still saying that this years Jets truly are the worst in franchise history? You are delusional.
