Thank you. I couldnt agree with more you. There is ZERO change he is fired, it's not going to happen. We made the playoffs last year, and he showed a ton of promise. Trade Vilma, get a first round pick back and stock up. We'll have a top 5 pick and a lower pick. That would 3 picks in the top 35. I'll take it.

Keyshawn was traded for 2 first round picks, that was the steal of the century in the Jets favor. Abraham was a great talent but you could never count on him when needed the most, getting a first round pick for him was great for the Jets too. Coles was lost as a FA and then gotten back with another great trade from the Jets perspective.

There are two toally seperate issues here:

    1) Vilma will be productive again if he falls into the right system with the right players.

    2) You need to give Mangini a chance to get the players he needs in order to be successful.

Every team loses FA, some of them hurt more to lose than others but that is what happens to every team in this salary cap age of football. You can't complain about always trading top talent if all those trades worked out to the Jets benefit.

You're crazy if you think anybody would give a #1 for a LB..any LB.

A 25 year old LB who is arguably top 5 mlb in the 4-3? If I needed a MLB and drafted one you would be thrilled if he turned into Vilma. If someone traded for Vilma, all the team would be doing is skipping the 2 or 3 years it takes to learn to play in the league b/c Vilma is at that point.

Why not? Especially for someone with his talent. Look put the guy in a 4-3 system with the correct personnel, and he'll be a pro-bowler again. Also I would've love to see JV in a 3-4 with the CORRECT PERSONNEL!!!!

A team that starts out 1-6 is pretty hard to buy into...I dont blame Vilma and Baker one bit for being upset...but when Mangini starts to push them out, it becomes a problem, rather then fixing this problem behind closed doors...

I hope you weren't responding to me, because I am a Jets fan first, and clearly want the best for this team. If you cant see that, you are either blind, or a fool.

Your crazy if you think we cant get a 1st for Vilma...although I would prefer we figure out a way to make him productive on this team...

expectations don't matter to me, performance does. Mangini took over a team that had won 10 games two seasons prior but was riddled by injuries the year before, so 10 wins wasn't a surprise -- they had the players to do so. be that as it may, a drop from 10 wins to a 1-6 start that has no sight of getting better is more indicative of a coaches ability and promise IMO.

I didn't anticipate another 10 win season, the team just has too many holes in it, but the drop in quality of play this season is clearly indicative of Mangini's coaching ability -- and his promise. sure, if you need to endure another 4 or 5 win season to see that, be my guest, you are far more optimistic about Mangini than I am. but I am not willing to, especially if it costs us talented players.

and a bad coach should be fired no matter how many season he has been with the team. if you knew the Jets were going to go 1-15 in 96, would you have kept Kotite just because he had only been there 1 year? no, that is ludicrous. you fire a coach when you are confident he is the problem, and I am confident now that Mangini is. you need the Jets to waste a few more season under him to be convinced of that. that is far more ridiculous to keep a bad coach just because he hasn't been here long enough than recognizing a mistake and correcting it as quickly as possible.

only Jets fans think he is a bad coach and that he is the reason behind this bad start of ours. I love how everyone now says they expected a successful season last year but at the time the only one on this board was WinstonBiggs predicting that kind of success, everyone else thought he was joking or out of his mind. It is very easy to predict a seasons outcome after the season has played out.

It is ridiculous to think of firing a HC after one overachieving season and one somewhat underachieving half a season. Only a Jets fan..

only a Jet fan would think a 1-6 start is only somewhat underachieving. oh, the low standards we have...

and predictions don't matter. when you take last season in conjunction with the previous 6, 10 wins didn't turn out to be that big of a surprise. but when you take this season and compare it to the previous 6 or 7, there is a huge discrepancy in performance that can arguably be attributed to the coach.

All you do is blame the coach, it must just be easier for you to accept that way. It's always the coaches fault with you, first baseball, now football.

You're right, this team has all the pieces in place except for a HC. Silly me how did I not see that before?

Mangini isn't going to get fired.. but are we gonna throw out Mangini's record this year when we say "we showed promise last year soo.. "

Yea, last year was last year. Mangini shouldn't get the complete pass here. Mangini has had a terrible year this year. He showed promise last year, but the goodwill from last year is gone. He hasn't shown promise THIS year. Sure, maybe I expected them to be 7-9.. 8-8, take a step back, I didn't expect to trade for Thomas Jones, acquire Darrelle Revis and Davis Harris and be 1-6 right now and en route to a terrible terrible top 5 pick in next years draft type season.

With that said, Vilma is gone. We knew all along he didnt fit the system. Mangini should and probably should've traded him last offseason. If you get a #1, you absolutely do it. But I doubt you'd get a #1 because teams will probably think that we have to trade Vilma and they won't offer a first round pick.

Actually, my presumption is that Woody believes that Tannenbaum and Mangini are joined at the hip and that Tannenbaum and Bradway are a bit too chummy given what has actually transpired from 2005 to 2007.

A move for Cowher would send all of the above out the door and would definitively end both the Parcells and Bradway/Tannenbaum eras. I'm guessing that after watching the nightmare in 2005 a similar nightmare in 2007 will be enough to push him past the breaking point and into fresh territory.

Would he sweep everybody away without having a strong potential successor? No. But I think he'll go out of his way to explore his options if the Jets stay stinky down the stretch.

can you at least attempt to try and make a rational argument without jumping to extremes. this team, IMO, has enough pieces to be better than 1-6, and that 1-6 mark can be directly attributed to Mangini. last I checked, who is responsible for preparing a team to play? the coach. strategy? the coach. who plays? the coach. if all of those things aren't working, I fail to see how that is anybody else's fault except the coach's.

and it isn't possible that both Eric Mangini and Willie Randolph are actually bad coaches? or is it just easier for you to make an argument against me than one for Mangini?

There is no argument to be made as we just don't know what kind of coach Mangini is yet. When Mangini was hired, everyone was willing to give him the time it was going to take to build this team his way. IMO nothing has changed in that regard, this team is rebuilding and is missing the most impoortant pieces to make his scheme work. He has shown enough potential to be a great HC to give him more time to build his team. If they can't win once his team is built than adios another HC, until then have some patience.

This team is losing because the D is horrible and the Qb is too. Not exactly a recipe for success in the NFL these days.

Wrong. You don't. Here we go again. We have a bad season and the head coach is gone because in some people's mind he is not getting the best out of our players. 9which he did last year) It is never a question that the players are not good enough to win a championship. Of course the fact that the whole defense is sucking big time and the defensive coordinator is being outcoached and that even when we score 31 points and lose is Chad's fault and above all is all a reflection on Mangini and no one else. Shear nonsense. Why don't we accept the fact that many of the guys we have today are not going to be the good enough for tomorrow and if Vilma does not fit the system, either as ILB or OLB then give him a home elsewhere. Stop changing coaches every bad season and get over it. Let's build on his principles and not start over every time.

If Mangini had the stones to build a good defense we'd already be seeing signs of it. Not the finished product mind you but signs of hope. Instead we're seeing a terrible defense each week and nothing is improving.

You can argue that it's misfit talent, but the last time I looked the head coach was the person responsible for putting good talent on the field.

listen, I agree that the D is horrible and the QB stinks, and that the team is missing pieces. but I disagree that we are rebuilding. playing Pennington clearly indicates that Mangini was trying to win now, and thus needs to be judged accordingly. you don't stick with an aging QB whose trade value was as high as it would ever be before the season at the expense of bringing along a new QB unless you think you are going to win now -- and if you do, you aren't rebuilding. rebuilding inherently infers expecting experpereince losses, but Mangini wasn't willing to endure those this season for the long term benefit of the team.

but the way this team has lost, especially late in games directly as a result of Mangini's decision making (playing Pennington namely) is a reflection of Mangini's decision making ability and ultimate promise. when I watch the Jets play, those are the flaws I see glaringly.
