Whenever Clemens is inserted into the starting line up, do you feel he will be playing for his future with the Jets? Odds are, the Jets are going to have a high draft pick and there are three solid QB options coming out of the 2008 draft. What I am saying is, if Clemens plays bad, the Jets may draft one of those 3 to be the future at quarterback of the franchise. Whenever Clemens plays he will have pressure. He does not want to play worse than Pennington did either. Anyone think Clemens will be in the same position as Chad was, playing for his future???
If they don't fix their DL it won't matter who the QB is. DRob can't even occupy ONE blocker, much less two.
You make a good point. However, I think unless Clemens looks absolutely overwhelmed, which he didnt in his one game. He will start next year no matter how bad he does this year.
I think that if they put him in, they have to give him a few games. He hasn't had enough experience to make a decision on his future.
When he's inserted he's certainly going to be playing for his job. Hopefully he'll have 6 to 8 starts to give him the best chance to overcome the early growing pains that most successful QB's have. If he gets the 6 to 8 starts and does not perform the odds are very good the Jets will draft a first day QB next year to at least compete and possibly pre-empt him. One of the more threatening things for the current regime would be if Clemens busts. That would cast a very different light on their two year rebuild thus far. It's almost enough to make me wonder whether the current regime feels threatened by his progress, or lack thereof, so far.
Sorry, no way you draft a qb in the second round, give him a year on the bench, throw him to the wolves for maybe half a season and then depending on how he plays the next year invest a HIGH 1st round pick on a QB. There are no less than 5 positions I would address with that pick before even thinking of a QB.
You do not get the opportunity to draft a genuine franchise QB very often. If the Jets get a top 3 pick and Brian Brohm is there and still looks as good as he does right now you better believe the Jets will draft him unless they're fairly certain Clemens is the real deal. They might draft him anyway, a la the Chargers draft of Rivers and for the same reasons, Clemens, like Drew Brees, is not signed to a cap-busting 1st round contract...
Yeah, and then he'll go to another team for a huge contract and take them late into the playoffs! While Brohm struggles with our shitty new head coach...NO THANKS. B-5ux, I'll bet you $100 right now that we do not draft Brohm, even if in position to do so. Wanna put your money where your keyboard is?
Gambling is the refuge of a fool. I speak from personal experience on this one. If Brohm is a considered to be a franchise QB, and right now he is ahead of JaMarcus Russell and Vince Young in terms of that label during his senior year, he'll be drafted by whomever needs a QB in the top 3. Like I said earlier, he may well be drafted by a team that has a QB and then traded.
If he gets in there now, yes he will be.... If Mangini waits, and Kellen only gets 4-6 starts, I don't think it'll be a big enough window to judge him by... But assuming they put him in this week, he's going to have to show the CS he's the QB of the future, or they'll go out and get someone in the draft who can be that guy
Bro, I don't gamble...I'm too thrifty. (I consider my fantasy football league paid entertainment cause it keeps me busy for 6 months)...way cheaper than beer. I only bet when I know I'll win...and unless you're trying to back out of this one...Brohm will not be a NYJ.
You can't back out of what you were never in... And I'll stand by my opinion. You're entitled to yours also.
Inherent in your post is that Clemens is NOT a franchise QB. Whereas Leinart and Cutler from the same draft still have the "franchise" tag associated with them. Barring a broken leg Clemens would have been in that mix. Every time I see him I am very impressed with him and see no reason why Kellen is NOT THE franchise QB from that draft. We don't need a top 5 QB in the draft who is not close to being guaranteed to being better than Kellen.
At this point Brohm is looking a lot like the best college QB to come out since Carson Palmer. That might all change in the next few games and at the combine but he's currently in the class of Ben Roethlisberger (too much ego) and Eli Manning (too little ego) without the head questions they had coming out. He's also 6'4", which like Philip Rivers 6'5" is a big improvement over the likely incumbent. Don't get me wrong, I think Clemens can probably play QB in the NFL but the current trend, started by Cincinnati in 2003 and continued by San Diego in 2004, is to go get the potential star QB in the top 5 even when your incumbent looks quite respectable.
No...plain and simple. Kellen will be given another offseason to impress us. Which is fine. If Kellen turns out to be a bust, then in the 2009 draft, we can get our guy. But for now, we have so many holes to fill, it won't hurt us to wait an extra year.
If he gets in this week and plays well in the remaining 9 games then he will likely be our starter next year. How well he plays though will determine our direction in the draft.
I hope that is a joke. I think you are probably right. It would suck for Clemens to suck and the Jets to miss out on a good QB though.
