I agree with everything you said, especially about our run D. We have stopped NO ONE. And most of them have been crappy backups.
The coaches are responsible for fielding a team as bad as this one....this team is not a well coached team.....and out up front talent has to be league worst..minus man gold
This team looks no better than either of Kotites teams right now. You?re kidding yourself if you think so. Don?t give this team any credit for ?being in games? ? because that?s what horrible teams do. They phuck up games that ?they were in?. Detroit has built a franchise on doing this over the last six or so years.
That's what I'm seeing Brad. The Defense is the weakness of our team, that is accepted and know. Our d is being rebuilt and is the weak spot of our team. So that's why if our D(our weakness) can hold an offense like the Bengals at home to 13 points with 18 minutes to go, our leader Chad(our supposed strength) has got to eat up as much of that time as he can to win the game. Simple............... And it's not like chad did a ok job of moving the sticks with his dink & dunk (his forte), the D was on the field for about the last 14 minutes of the last 18 minutes. I mean come on. It was clear that the our D could only take away the big play from the Bengals and they did a good job of that(less a couple of Revis plays) and of making the bengals eat alot of time to score. So the strength of our team, should have been able to bring the game home no questions asked. Terrible game!!!
Still I feel that the QB switch it necessary because our D proved today that regardless of the lead they have, they will let everyone back in the game. Time tosee if we really do have our future QB on the roster so that we can start to plan for April.
I completely disagree. How about once - just once - we see the Jet defense come up with a three and out in the 2nd half?????? The defense was on the field for 14 of 18 minutes in the 2nd half because they can't stop the other team to get off the field. Period. The offense put 23 points on the board in the first 34 minutes of the game. They scored the first five times they had the ball. The only reason the Bengals had only 10 points at that point was because the Jets controlled the ball. Once that FG went up to make it 23-10, the defense gave up a long drive for a score. Then the offense was stopped for the first time all day (with a run, run pass). The the Bengals drove the field again to make it 24-23. So the offense is to blame when they score five straight times, take a 13 point lead, get stopped once and trail when they take the field again????? Give me a break. I agree Pennington is not the QB he was 3-4 years ago and I agree that Clemmens should play. But Pennington does not play defense. And to expect the offense to score every time they get the ball puts too much pressure on them and on the QB. I'm sorry, but there are bad offenses that do fine with good defenses (see Baltimore), but the Jets can't win with a defense that gives up 150+ and 400+ yards a game. If you think that is the QB's fault, you are watching a different game that I am watching.
IMO, the biggest issue is the 3-4. It needs to go, simple as that. It transformed vilma and robertson from near pro-bowlers to non-factors. Ellis has become less effective as well. Thats 3 of our best 4 defensive players right there, and the new regime has made them totally ineffective. You would think a guy like Mangini would stop trying to shove a round peg into a square hole. Barring a 3-13 season and Glen Dorsey becoming a Jet, there is no 340 lb anchor of a nose tackle walking through the door. They don't grow on trees. Either scrap the system or scrap the coaches. No point trading the players, as you wouldn't get jack shit for them anyways.
I have a hard time blaiming the OC only here. Something tells me (no real knowledge) he called some longer passes, but Mr Checkdown was scared, since we're up 10, and checked down... I thought the pass interference calls were legit on Revis. The punter did not lose this game. Shank or no shank, they still score. [/quote] Pennington had a HUGE hand in the loss today. He checks down too much and we NEVER GO IN FOR THE KILL. I just can't believe we never call those plays.. I just refuse to believe that. I just think Mr Checkdown is scared to lose...
To give the OC a pass when there were no first down passes and no play action is a cop out, IMO. A 23-10 lead when the Bengals couldn't stop the pass should have led to a win. The Jets put the playbook away in the 2nd half and the 3-4 defense is a sieve.
The bengals offense scores pts and Carson Palmer throws 21 times. The defense stinks and you can completely blame them for the loss. If you don't want to blame them, blame Mangold for the BS snap when the O was driving and had the turn over. Look at the 2nd half, Our offense, 3+ minute drive for a field goal, Cincy, almost 8 minute drive for a touchdown, 3 and out (first time the O didn't score in a drive), Cincy 4 minute drive TD and the lead. Mangold bad snap, Cincy drive and TD, down by 8. Jets 5 yd pass, Jones -1 yard loss, Pennington sacked punt to Cincy who ran the clock down to 1:44. at the 12 yard line with no timeouts. Get real, we were going to need a miracle to score and get the 2 point conversion. The defense lost the game plain and simple.
Today it was the D, no questions. They are pathetic, and the coaches aren't helping. If Eric is so good with defenses then he should fire Sutton and call it himself a la Billick last season with his offense.
The way I look at it...Mangini is NOT a second half coach. He can't close a game. This team is pathetic and it's true, it's not just the QB.
This is nothing new. We haven't been able to stop the run for at least 5 years. The defense should have been the main priority when manasshole got here and it wasn't. The FO is to blame for everything as far as I am concerned. What do they do? Install a new scheme that makes us even worse.
They did, repeatedly, in the last few weeks. Down 17-14 against buffalo Next Posession, he throws a pick Down 28-24 aginst the Giants.. Next Posession, he throws a pick six Down 7 to Philly He gets down to the 4 and cant get in.
Not defending CP, but you do not want to be in ANY of those situations. if your defense cannot hold leads its not the QB's fault. When the pressure is on only a handful of QB's can deliver, CP is not one of those, that is why you do not put him in that situation. I hope KC's confidence does not get shot getting thrown into the shit of a team known as the NYJ.
It's like beating a dead horse. Doesn't matter, we wasted 5 games on this shit. Pat's could pull all there starters and still beat most of the teams out there. I just wanted to the Jets to be competitive after Parcells and we are back being the laughing stock of the league.
Actually I think our defense looked great! We cannot stop the run, and we cannot defend the pass, but other than that they really did a great job.
 All that matters is that your QB has a bigger gun than the other team. All this nonsense about better defense, running games, or special teams is just bunk. Bigger guns wins games. Ain't that right Clemenites?
All the matters is against one of the best D's in football, a QB in his first start was able to put up 14 points in the fourth quarter. And if not for a couple drops,Kellen would have put up 21 points. Now did anybody truly believe that 3 points in the second half and a 13 point lead would hold against the Bengals in Cincy???? For the whole fourth quarter and second half, all this QB could get was 3 points (the hailmary doesn't count). Please............
